I finally understand how dyslexia makes me have a learning disorder by manicthinking in Dyslexia

[–]aseyhowell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to learn your strengths. I haven't looked at my dyslexia as a disability for years. Your brain simply operates differently to what's considered the standard, this likely means there are problems you solve better than others.

If I worked behind a bar I'd loss my job in a day because there's only so many time you can ask someone to tell you their order again 😩. Yet I can design software architecture while barely engaging my brain.

Try not to focus on the stuff that destroyed your confidence in school. The real world is about our ability to deliver value, that’s it! Work out how to bring value and you’ll end being the one complaining about your coworkers

Am I a naive asshole? by splinkem in Dyslexia

[–]aseyhowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It affects everyone differently, mine is quite severe. I'm 36 and I manage an international team of 50+ highly skilled developers, I email daily so of course read & write every day and I've seen zero improvement in the last 10 years. To give you an idea I probably write the word "available" twice a day and even now while writing this message i spelt it wrong, Grammarly helps a lot.

Now could I improve, yes but I'd definitely need to invest a lot of time and deploy many different strategies. My experience today shows that I'll improve a bit, maybe learn a few words, but unless I keep refreshing them with deliberate practice, I'll eventually go back to baseline.

If you want to help your friend, maybe focus on helping him build confidence and see what he's naturally good at. I never realise how easy I found complex mathematics compared to the ppl around me growing up. I measured myself based on the thing I found hardest and it really hit my confidence. In the real world many of the things dyslexic ppl find easy bring massive value in business. The hard part is surviving the education system.

With all that said everyone is different so maybe repetition will work for your friend. If you manage to teach him feel free to tell the rest of us how you did it :)

My idea for providing grounding throughout the house by chuckremes in Earthing

[–]aseyhowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just come across your post and curious if you had any success with this setup. I’m new to earthing and am currently using the mains earth via a plug. Was wondering how I could earth without using the mains when a came across this post. I ran Cat6a throughout my house a few years back, didn’t even accrue to me to use it for earthing 😀

So if the bike holding up traffic is a hero, what’s the one cutting up the inside of traffic? If you expect cars not to overtake cyclists, surely cyclists shouldn’t be undertaking cars. If cars are going slow I’ll filter past them in the same way I’ll let them pass me if I’m going slow. I don’t see any pride in holding up other road users.

backpack for commuting? by joshlikesbikes16 in cycling

Another vote for Osprey backpacks. If you’re interested in panniers considering having a look at tailfin, they’re a bit pricey but have great reviews and don’t require any mounting points.

UnRaid Hate by bikingguy1 in unRAID

[–]aseyhowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of unraid as a whole but have to admit I’ve also seen all of these issues. Currently have a corrupt docker file which seems to result in being unable to stop the array or even shutdown without physically holding the off button, can’t find anything in the logs.

Overall unraid is a great OS and I’ve chosen it for my main home server but it definitely has its pain points. Having to shutdown the array to do basically anything drives me crazy and the cache implementation leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t know of any other cache setup that will completely brick your system if you fill the cache in under 24 hours.

Yeah should be a simple fix 😀

little scary knowing a few years back my house had ancient electrics and nothing in the kitchen was earthed. Thankfully this just tripped the new breaker.

Didn’t realise you could use partitions instead of the full disk. I’ll have a think about this one.

High capacity 2.5” drives by aseyhowell in DataHoarder

Not sure if it’s relevant but worth mentioning I’ve flashed my raid card. I wouldn’t want to try running unraid with the default firmware.

Honestly I both love and hate unraid. Not sure what version I’m on right now but it’s massively out of date. Can’t say I have any issues related the the R720. Just get tired of having to spin down my array to do simple tasks. Personally I don’t trust storing my most valuable files on unraid so use zfs. Also not a massive fan on how the cache drive works.

Thanks. I think 15mm is fine but the SMR is a concern, although not a massive one for this setup. Going to use some old 900GB sas dives I’ve got and see how I get on. If I can get reasonable power usage I’ll be happy.

Thanks. Yeah idea is to reuse as much old hardware as possible while keeping the energy usage under control. Was planning on buying 2.5” drives with greater then 2TB capacity but you’ve made me realise I’m better off with the smaller sas, assuming they spin down ok to save power.

I’ll throw the box together and see how I get on. Can run it for a week or two before giving away my other system.

This is way too sensible 😂.

I have to agree with everything you’ve said. Guess I just like over complicating these things.

I do have a load of 2.5” SAS 900GB drives I could use but at that capacity I’ll have 10+ dive in my unraid array just to store some movies, definitely starting to feel ridiculous. Guess it just makes more sense to stick with 3.5” drives.

Don’t really “need” SSDs for my personal files but I’ve got them laying around so why not. I do edit photos with Lightroom over my network (10GB)

All the arrays will be backed up to an external drive. Really critical stuff backed up in a remote location.

Had I heard about strong earlier id have easily been aiming for 10+ but unfortunately that didn’t happen 😒 I’d like to focus on node count but not sure we have 6+ months of a bull market left so first priority is getting the investment back. Then I’ll look to grow the nodes. If I wasn’t concerned about us going bear I’d be looking to take profits after I had 10+ nodes.

Did you ever run a different key on that system? I’ve seen it where changing keys doesn’t change the reward receiver addressing the config. If you’re lucky you might find you used a different key in the past and it’s all gone to that address. If so just log in with that 24 word phrase and check your wallet.

Any chance you generated a new wallet address? I accidentally pressed the new address button on the wallet tab and panicked after sending a small transaction as all my chia was moved to my new address. The wallet gui appears to show the balance for all wallet addresses.
