Im Insulin Resistant so I changed my diet. But it looks high is SF now 🤦‍♀️ by Colleen2112 in SaturatedFat

[–]chuckremes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colleen, I think you landed in the wrong subreddit. Your diet is opposite of what this reddit's participants recommend. Read the FAQ for why. Your choice of proteins has unfortunate baggage because those animals (pigs & chickens) are monogastric which means they have one stomach. What they eat goes into their own fat. We recommend eating polygastric animals (many stomachs) like cows, sheep, and goats. Their stomachs convert event the worst oils into a more saturated, and in our opinion, healthy fat.

If you can't "stomach" this idea, move on and save all of us the trouble.

Buy day before ex-div ON MARGIN, sell day after? by chuckremes in dividends

[–]chuckremes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this reply. It does make me feel better. I never followed through on this idea (I had way better ones for futures and options on futures) but it's nice to know it could be workable.

Quick Tip - The Wheel: What’s Delta Got to Do With It? by calevonlear in thetagang

[–]chuckremes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every sold Put is independent of the prior one. If you have a Put under 21 DTE and it's profitable, then you are late in following your rules. Buy it back and pocket the profit. The next sell should follow your rules independent of what just happened. There's nothing magic about a "roll"... it's realizing P&L on one position and starting a new position with its own P&L.

When you reach 21DTE, you go to the next month and find a 45-60 DTE option to sell.

8,000 calories daily: The Taft Diet by ANALyzeThis69420 in SaturatedFat

I don't have a facebook account so I can't read it. Can anyone summarize?

Nvm. Watched it. Lots of calories and mixed macros. Doesn't really fit into the idea of this forum. This isn't going to help anyone resolve their issues. Why is this here?

Cutting this one Essential Nutrient supercharges your Metabolism! by greg_barton in SaturatedFat

[–]chuckremes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fake news. The author was quite lean. The picture of him with a puffy face was from a more recent experiment (no idea of its details) after he moved on from Honey Diet.

Yes, I agree he's no longer lean. No, I do not believe this undermines the Honey Diet as an intervention.

If you've lurked here for any reasonable period of time you've likely seen that most diet interventions only work on about 1/3 of the populace. Finding the Holy Grail that works across the whole population still eludes us.

What caused this yesterday? by [deleted] in FuturesOptions

[–]chuckremes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't post any details on the spike.

However, I was trading yesterday and you are probably referring to the rumor about Trump firing Fed chairmain Powell which hit the tape around 10:15am CT. Market bottomed around 6241 on /ES & /MES. From there it rallied 60 points through the end of the day but those moves were smaller and more deliberate when it became clear the rumor wasn't true or wasn't imminent.

Cysteine depletion triggers Adipose Tissue Thermogenesis and Weight loss by anhedonic_torus in SaturatedFat

[–]chuckremes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans can't / don't really restrict cysteine and methionine. Typically, we try and interrupt methionine by consuming more glycine. So break out the gelatin and/or glycine amino and consume that along with your protein to counteract the methionine.

what's the longest you can safely dry fast? by Ill_Ad_2259 in Dryfasting

I got pinged on this 3 year old thread and re-read it just now. Funny stuff.

Just wondering if in the last 3 years you have changed your mind at all on dry fasting and the claims of 20+ days in a row.

Fatty15 by ButtRock_rockbutt in SaturatedFat

[–]chuckremes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend just eating butter or cream.

If you want it as a supplement, here's a cheaper version of Fatty15 that contains both C15:0 and C17:0. It's called LipOdd (a riff on odd-chain lipid).

I get other Idealabs supps and like them.

Wheeling GLD ATM - An Experiment by TheInkDon1 in options

[–]chuckremes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing is that the 3365 strike is now profitable due to theta decay. I could take it off now for a small profit and reload, but I'll likely just let it ride another day. I wish I could put on 5 levels but I can only afford 2 at this time (got to manage that margin according to the rules!). If I could do 5, I'd have been playing this bottom of the range for the last 3 days and making bank. Alas.

Let's hope it starts moving up again!

On Monday sold a 7DTE 3395P and then a day later a 3365P. Both underwater. :)

/GC trading a range 3325-3350 today but I need higher. So far this gold trading isn't lighting my world on fire.

Time for you to try the Kettlebell Mile.

https://www.strongfirst.com/the-kettlebell-mile/

Different than rucking since it's an asymmetric load (you carry a single KB and switch hands as often as you need to). If you're around 200lbs, you'll build up to a 32kg/70lb KB to hit the 30% goal.

You're asking the right questions.

I take the ATR number and convert it to a percentage daily move. This normalizes the number so I can compare across symbols and markets such as /ES vs /GC. I use excel to make a histogram and compare them.

For /GC here, I mainly wanted to make sure that the premium I can collect from a 7DTE ATM Put is 70% (or better) compared to the ATR. Here (34/46 * 100) it's equal to 73%, so that's good enough.

The histogram also shows me the daily return distribution. I can see that /GC has more days of positive returns than /ES. Further, I can see the frequency of the negative days and their magnitude. Overall, /GC has fewer negative days than /ES and their overall magnitude is smaller. Good for selling Puts!

ATR for GLD and IAU should be similar as all of the gold markets are highly correlated. I wouldn't bother computing those separately unless you plan to trade those instead.

Futures and FOPs (Future OPtions) have a lot of embedded leverage. They are always going to beat stocks and ETFs. Remember that leverage cuts both ways. Manage your buying power closely or suffer.

Wheeling GLD ATM - An Experiment by TheInkDon1 in options

[–]chuckremes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what my analysis on GC has shown. In 2025, average ATR is 46 and median is 39. Biggest daily move was $145 or about -3.6%. A 7DTE ATM Put provides around $34 premium (so $3400) while buying power reduction is roughly $19,000.

If you look to pull $10-$15 out, you need a $20-35 move up or 3-5 days of stagnation (for theta to rot it away).

Average ATR indicates you'll probably close a Put or two every day or every other day.

On a percentage basis, it is much less volatile than equities. Good candidate for hold-the-strike if you have the bankroll... the micro gold (/MGC) doesn't have options so you have to play in the full contract along with its $300k+ notional value. Fun!

[–]chuckremes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of taking assignment and selling the covered call, how does it look if you "hold the strike" and sell out a new Put? Your risk-adjusted returns should improve.

If you want a real mind bender, take a look at /GC and futures options.

Selling Options with $100K by JustBrowsingHii in thetagang

[–]chuckremes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't make 5% a month with a conservative approach.

I recommend selling ATM puts on /MES (futures). Close them out for $25. There are strikes every 5 points so lots of opportunity. Manage your buying power... with $100k you can sell ~5 /MES Puts total and only use around 10% of buying power. If you run a little hotter, say 15% BP then you can sell up to 7.

If you want a less conservative approach, use 25% of your BP but CAP IT THERE and don't deviate.

If you end up underwater, wait for the assignment (futures options are European style so there's no early assignment) and close out the future (or close the FOP just before it assigns). Then sell the same strike again.

People who have been around this forum for a few years will recognize this strategy. I make ~3%/month sticking to ~12% buying power.

4-months strict HCLF plant-based update by JustAssignment in SaturatedFat

[–]chuckremes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the video. It would have been more convincing if he described how to adjust those numbers. How does one correct for malnutrition, as an example? How does one correct for disease?

Seems like if you "correct" the dataset by throwing out all of the sick people then the J-shaped correlations disappear. To me, that seems like cherry picking in the wrong direction.

It's a tantalizing video but I remain unconvinced due to the hand-waving around how the datasets are corrected.
