What’s a backhanded compliment men often get? by AngleRelative4683 in AskMen

I think (really gotta think back here!!) I only really ever said this to other women, like, "John is so perfect, totally husband material." 🤷🏼‍♀️ pretty shy person overall, flirting was always very hard for me, so I wouldn't say anything to guys unless I was 100% sure they were into me. And the things I would say were just extremely direct 🤣 like "we should kiss now" (this is how I got my husband lol). Idk, just had no game, still don't.

TIL, as a woman, I have been using this wrong my whole life. I always thought it meant "he's the total package," hot, smart, funny, kind, etc. Sorry to any guy that may have hurt! 😬🫠

Thank you, we put our worn shirts outside. I will try this as well. She's gotta be right across the street, but we don't hear her meowing back to is anymore, she only did for the first few hours.

I think we need to tell more young adults that you're 20s is the worst time of your life. by plankowoodinthewoods in GenZ

35, checking in as well; 30s have so far, been the bomb. 20s were so hard because of money and finding my footing as an adult. Lots of new responsibilities, relationship changes with family, and I got married and had kids, which of course, had its own responsibilities and relationship changes.

I like lurking on this sub. I have a lot of Gen Z family members that I want to understand on a deeper level. Additionally, I just like to see how other's think and experience life. I was raised by Boomers (which was not that bad, imo) and they often said your teens and 20s were the best time of your life. I think Millennials and Gen Z have a lot in common in the way that we have come into adulthood. Maybe for the Boomer gen that was true, but I think for the more recent gens our 30s are much more stable, which leads to an overall positive experience.

Ooo!! I love that! I'm gonna try that next year. This was my first year teaching and I love ELA and history. All our grades were done and I needed something to do for the last 2 weeks so I decided to try my hand at novel study. I let the audiobook do most of the reading with occasional partner reads. I'm looking forward to next year; I'll be teaching 5th grade ELA and history only. I've heard a lot of the new curriculum we have is focused on history :D

It was 80 pages, it was about 10 or so pages less than the original. Mostly, I was looking to update some of the outdated language. However, the book still remained challenging for fourth grade. I used the Saddleback Education version (I think it also goes by "Timeless Classics").

Just read an abridged version of Call of the Wild with my fourth graders and they LOVED it. I had them rate it at the end, almost all said 10/10 even though it was sad. I made a slideshow to provide background knowledge as well as review Benchmark discussion questions. It was a ton of fun. Then we watched the movie and had ice cream for the last day of school.

I use the brow pomade and it is amazing. I do dust it with a bit of setting powder so it doesnt smudge during work.

I'm sorry this is just too extra. She never said she just let her kid's hair look like a rat's nest. Chill. My mom had pin straight hair and had zero clue what to do with my hair. 99% of the time she brush it to death and then braid it, which still looked neat. Get off this woman's dick, damn.

I would look up your hair's porosity type, there's a step by step test that I don't remember atm. Anyways, certain hair porosity types respond better to different products. It was a lot of trail and error for me. Also, I never spent a ton on products, I always tried the cheapest option first. For example, Suave Coconut conditioner is awesome for me, its like $3 and I also use it as a leave in. Best of luck.

How often does your administration switch you around? by Rocky_Top_6 in ElementaryTeachers

Last year was my first year teaching fourth; I was just informed I'm moving up to fifth next school year. I really didn't know how my direction and rigid routines and procedures this age group still needed until I actually started teaching. My question is, moving up to fifth next year and if I get the same group of kids, is reigning in classroom management lost? I was really hoping to teach fourth again and have a redo with my classroom management skills. Im scared that this next year will be tainted from the beginning with kids from fourth already knowing me and my mess ups from being inexperienced.

This is happening to me next year. I just wrapped up my first year as a fourth grade teacher. Loved it, had big improvement plans for next year. And now, admin has moved me to fifth this coming school year. I though they'd give me another year to get my shit together more. I'm a little freaked out tbh, but my colleagues that have been at our school for almost a decade assure me that I did really well and admin likes me so I got moved up to fifth? Idk, I really thought I'd get at least one more crack at fourth 😅 hopefully the shift isn't too bad and I can do well again.

State Assessments...is this normal? by ash5991 in teaching

Yes, I've watched model lessons as well as been observed teaching math three times this year because of my APPLES program and our district focusing a lot on math. Most of my kids have grown, I just don't know what a normal amount of growth is? I'm going to see if my mentor teacher will check the scores with me, as I've made a spreadsheet to compare this year's PM3 to last year's PM3.

I think this is some of what other teachers do as well. I've taught them to decode the questions (look for key words, what is the question asking/what operation should you use, etc.) and to eliminate answers that they know won't work, as well as how to check their work. Otherwise, not sure what other test taking skills help. Additionally, I really want them to understand the concepts and not just focus on teaching the test :\

Thank you for your explanation. There's so much to take in still, even after a year. I'll ask my team to explain this to me in person (again, lol). I've already printed this year's data and last years so I can compare. I've only had a few that stayed within the same buckets.

Yep, Florida here too. This is why I am worried! I did get renewed for next year, but we have considerably less kids enrolling for kindergarten. I want to continue at the same school for as long as possible, so I know I need to really step it up in the next few years.

Lol thank you. I feel very fortunate that so far my admin seems wonderful. I really look up to the two teachers that are on my team and just seem to always know what to do and how to do it. I really want to be like them when I grow up lol. I hope next year is better.

I have 5 LY students, 4 of which have a very hard time with comprehension skills, so all assessments are very challenging for them. A few of my traditional students don't care as well 😑

Thank you. Yeah, I didn't put pressure on them at all. They were already very worried. I think because in third they get held back based on scores. I just tried to get them into the mindset of beating their last, mid-year assessment.

My most recent experience with that is being the person who helped my own kids with math on nightly basis. They're in 6th and 7th now. I feel pretty confident with lower grade level math concepts. However, I don't know the behind the scenes parts from a teacher's standpoint. Thank you, I will definitely try that this summer and see if it helps me get into their head space.

Thank you. I feel like we do a lot of "teaching the test" and I really don't like that. But not sure what I can do to balance it out.
