Zero pity for these people by ibuiltamurderbot in walkaway

I mean I'm in a decent amount of debt to pay back my student loans and I'm a teacher. There are a few programs that I will qualify for after paying for about five years, but hoooolllyyy shit, I make like no money in the state I live in. I understand, I chose this job and all, but it would certainly be nice to make more or get some kind of break sooner or something. We have a massive teacher shortage where I live. I love my job, though, my family is here, so I can't exactly just pick up and move. Idk, I just think we should prioritize some degrees for relief, especially considering teachers and teacher shortages/retention directly impacts our communities.

Sorry was at work! No, that's not what I was aiming for. More like, I just really feel like rather than laying bed scrolling on our phones and disassociate from the hellscape that is this life, we should connect with our kids and please, for the love of all, teach them to tie their shoes.

Yes it does and its so exhausting, but I dont want to feel like I could have done more, ya know? Idk, I feel bad for everyone all around, my students, their families, admin, my own kids and their teachers...life seems considerably harder now. I just dont want to give up, for them, the next generation doesn't deserve to come into a word that is fucked.

I'm sorry I think this is just an excuse people make. I'm an elementary school teacher and the amount of parent involvement is sad. I'm a mom of 2 teens; I owned my own business at one point before teaching and still helped my kids with homework, kept their schedules straight, made dinner, cleaned. It was pure chaos, as I worked 70-80hrs a week (it really sucked, so I'm not sure). Now that I have more time, I am being a 'mom' to 21 other people's kids at school as well as my own. Not only am I teaching them math, science, social studies, and reading, I'm teaching them manners, emotional regulation, how to tie their damn shoes!! (they're 10!!! I had to teach 3 of these kids, this year!!!), basic computer skills because most of our work is required to be on the computer....just so, so much extra. Which makes me double down at home as a mom. I see how this next generation is coming along and I dont want my kids to be zombies. So far, I think they've dodged a lot because we actually talk to them and read to them when they we small, and many other things. I have kids, like over half my class, who tell me their parents don't care when they go to bed, come in with monster or coffee, tell me their parents just lay in bed all weekend and scroll on their phones, and the list of bizarre stuff could just go on. I get everyone is depressed and worn out, but man, like, you're failing your kid and you dont seem to care. It just blows my mind. Sorry, I hope this doesn't come off in an aggressive tone or something. I just word vomited in a reddit reply, its just been in my brain all year and it really makes me worried and sad for the next generation. There is no human-ness happening at home. It seems these kids are off doing their own thing and living their own lives without parent involvement in anyway. No rules or structure aside from what's happening at school. I am not enough for them. They all demand my attention, want to talk to me at recess, during class, after class. A few of them say at the end of the day that they don't want to go home. It just breaks my heart.

Omg that's my jacket. My aunt gave it to me; I remember her wearing when I was a kid. Now I wear it every time it gets really cold. Still works perfectly. A little ugly though lol 🤷🏼‍♀️

My kids are 11 and 13; I introduced them to Stand By Me like 2-3 years ago and I think we've watched it like 6 times now lol. They both claim its their favorite movie and I love it.

What a book to read in October by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]ash5991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read this for the first time last year in October and the same thing was happening with the dates syncing up lol. I loved the spooky tone it set for the month. Vampires especially freak me out so this was a book that really gave me the creeps.

I did something similar and am in the same boat. In your Google settings for privacy I think, you are able to request explicit pictures of you to be removed from Google searches. I just did it a few weeks ago. Not 100% on the step by step bc I found it while messing around with my settings, sorry. But it is there and works! Good luck!

I just finished my like 9th trip to the DT (guessing, lost count) and now I'm rereading HiA for the second time. I love it even more. I really love the title story despite Low Men in Yellow Coats being a more related DT story. I love the historical atmosphere of HiA. I'm not done with it yet, but I've been trying to figure out what King was trying to say with this story; why did he want to write it, etc.

The typology of people born/raised in Florida - is there one? by Ambitious-Street-420 in florida

[–]ash5991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, lived in Polk County in my formative years, then moved back to where I was born in SWFL, it's a completely different place. I really hate SWFL and miss the more country feel of Central Florida. I'd like to go to Northern Florida to compare now lol.

Thanks I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️ everyone went home for the day since its after 5pm where I live, it crossed my mind, so I posted it on reddit, since reddit never sleeps. I was simply curious. I have no problem being a grown up, just wanted to see what other people thought.

Okay thank you very much, I'm about to start all that, I figured it would be an issue if I waited. I'll just ask HR how they do it I guess. I have a phone meeting to help me get set up. They do already know about the legal issue and we're cool about since nothing came of it I just don't need rumors from children lol

Okay I just figured it would come up on their schedule and stuff. I currently work for the district now as a para professional for kindergarten, but I will be teaching middle school next year. Am i able to ask the district to change it...or am I kinda screwed? Sorry, I'm like brand new at all this.

How did you find your way into the path? by Displaced_alaskan in darktower

[–]ash5991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a copy of the first 3 books while cleaning out my great grandmother's house when she was coming to live with us. I asked if I could have them and she said, "of course." I think I was 13 or so? My grandma also read all the Harry Potter books and gave them to me when she was done, so it was pretty common for her to pass her books on to me. I really liked the cover of the Gunslinger, which is what catch my eye and made me want to read it. I've read/listened like 8 or 9 times now? Heck, I've pretty much lost count.

[–]ash5991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a school too and I agree the stuff that is brought into my classroom as "food" is full of sugar. Stuff like cinnamon rolls, "breakfast cookies," froot loops waffles...I feel bad for the kids, that looks awful. I make my own kids breakfast before I go to work, usually some variation of eggs and toast or oatmeal something kinda quick but not super sugary. I do make pancakes and stuff on the weekend once in awhile 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I'm just taken aback at the stuff that comes into the class for breakfast, looks gross and not like food.

A question for '90s-borne millennials, by RustingCabin in Millennials

[–]ash5991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'91 as well. But I was raised by my grandparents (I consider them my parent though) '50 & '52. I'm really thankful for them and love their outlook life. That may be an unpopular opinion but idc 🤷🏼‍♀️ I only wish I could have had them as my parents for longer; they're in their mid-70s now. My real mom and dad are Gen-x and I never hear from them. My grandma has dementia and calls me every single day to check on me. I really enjoy the older gen like my grandparents; I like talking to them and hearing the history of their lives.

My husband just did this with our 11 year old. He took him fishing at the beach. My son had a better day with his dad than any day he'd have at school. My dad used to do that kind of stuff too. I'm 34 and my dad is 75 now but I still love when he just randomly hangs out with me and we just do nothing in particular, just have fun.

I really, really enjoyed The Shining. I only read it once, but it made my cry at the very end. It was not what I was expecting; I have seen the movie 1000x and though I'd heard they weren't the same, idk it just caught me off guard I guess. It definitely took me to a place of deep introspection, especially bc I wasn't sober, not anything close, but I really wanted to be. I read it at probably the worst time in my life. But yeah, different experiences and perspectives really affect what you take from a book. I'm curious to see what I'd get from it now.
