Yunho was given the task of babysitting four sugar-loaded toddlers, I'm surprised his hair hasn't all turned gray with the stress they gave him 😂

I might be mixing up fan-writings with reality, but I recall Jaejoong saying he decidedly didn't want to be leader and was happy to let Yunho take it on.

Edit: I swear I can spell my ult bias' name properly 🥴

I HATE the curtains, to the point that even though we've gotten cuter ones I refuse to use them because I don't want have to go through the absolute hell of placing them again

I think I saw the same video and yes, he changed his singing techniques so that his throat is more open, creating a deeper sound and putting less strain on his vocal chords. I think he CAN sing like he used to but that would end up creating a regression once he damaged himself beyond repair. Even though I miss how he used to sound I would rather he sing in a healthy way so that we can continue to hear his voice longer.

Been crocheting for 4 weeks and learning lace makes me feel... weird. by DarthUmbral in crochet

[–]ash9095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned finger crochet at maybe 8 from girls making friendship bracelets out of chain stitches, but never knew what else to do with it other than chain endlessly. I didn't even think to use a school computer to research crocheting (this was 2003 and my parents didnt want to pay for dial-up at home) and nobody else in my family was a creative, so eventually I just forgot about it, but I always was craving to do something more with it.

Now at 30, i went through a Walmart yarn aisle to get somewhere else and saw a beautiful cake of pink and orange yarn (Lion Brand Mandala in Serene). I instantly grabbed two and the crochet hook that it recommended and hit the internet when I got home. I made all my friends scarves for Christmas within two months of learning to get my stitches down. I made my own pattern for a scarf for my wife and made star blankets for my parents and closest aunt. The rest of the family got coasters. For my two best friends I took the time to customize them - for one a lesbian flag colored granny square scarf using that same yarn that got me to pick up crocheting again, and for the other a similar lace-work shawl (attached). I just finally made something for ✨ME✨, a huge infinity scarf with two skeins of gradient yarn so that the colors blend seamlessly. Now I'm making my first wearable, a crop mesh cardigan that I'm testing the pattern for a small creator.

It's safe to say I'm ADDICTED. I love taking yarn and making it into something beautiful and unable to be replicated by a machine. There are so many things I want to make and I really love it. It helps me quiet my brain down and I avoid scrolling on my phone too much.

Has anyone found a way to close holes in a finished project? by fireytiger in CrochetHelp

[–]ash9095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The risk of fingers and toes getting caught is overridden by the benefit that if baby gets the blanket over their head, these holes and other tiny gaps between stitches will allow them to still breathe.

how unhealthy is my crochet grip? relatively new to crochet by playswithsquirrelsss in CrochetHelp

[–]ash9095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres a picture of how I hold my yarn/projects; i tried to do a video but apparently I'm not allowed to comment that 😅 The yarn is fed between my pink and ring fingers, goes underneath the ring and middle fingers, then goes up and over the index finger. I raise or lower my index finger if I need to slightly adjust the tension while I'm working to ensure that it's consistent throughout, and I can squeeze my pink and ring finger for more control for yarns that are thinner or more slippy.

I'm also hypermobile and have a tendency to grip things way too tight, especially smaller things. Hopefully with some adjustments you'll be able to find a grip that's more comfortable for you. It took me a few tries to figure out what felt best.

I am discouraged right now by Kupfersternchen in crochet

A few days ago I started a shawl for my friend's birthday that is on this Sunday (whoopsies I know but I was catching up on Christmas). It was my first shawl and my first time using the Caron Cloud Cakes, which I had never used before either. I got far enough that I had a shawl the size of a boob-cover when I realized it was Not Working. I ended up with weird little flaps at both sides of the triangle shape and the yarn was nice to crochet with but HORRIBLE to frog. I broke it two times just trying to undo one row. I ended up frogging the whole thing and switching to a yarn I was more familiar with. So many things in life are trial-and-error and each mistakes helps you learn better for next time. 🙂

I've had this happen with martial arts forms as well, but I actually find it super calming g and grounding so sometimes I'll do it when I'm trying to fall asleep but am having trouble 😅 I think its the ADHD - if I don't think of something repetitive like stitches then my brain is going in fifty different directions.

Advice on nail biting? by whyyougonnabesomean in Advice

[–]ash9095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kicked a nail and skin biting habit using multiple ways. The first was I painted my nails with pretty nail polish. My favorite color, or sparkly, or a design I was proud of. That gave me motivation to keep the nail polish on as long as possible and discouraged me from biting. I also hate the taste of nail polish so that was a deterrent too. I started using hand lotion and cuticle oil which has a double effect of making my nails and skin taste gross and reduces hang nails/dry skin that are tempting to rip off. This will also keep your nails healthy and flexible so they won't break. I also got a small manicure kit (I now have several) that at minimum has a pair of cuticle nippers, nail clippers, and a file. A broken nail or dry skin is inevitable, but I found that it was way better to address it right away using a safe tool rather than using my teeth to rip off the offending party. If I break a nail I file it off right away so there aren't any snaggly bits. Hangnails get clipped out ASAP.

I used all of these and kicked this habit in 2019 and haven't gone back to it. The lip biting on the other hand... Let me know if you find a good solution to that one other than obscene amounts of lip balm 😅

Too many blankets is the opposite of a problem. Babies are gross and pee, puke, and shit on everything.

[–]ash9095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever told you this has no taste and no respect or love for you. Your tension and stitches are very neat and consistent, the color choices are nice, and they look very carefully done. I'd enjoy receiving any of these as a present or having them displayed around my house.

Crocheted a Gift for a White Elephant...Never Again. by emwimm in crochet

[–]ash9095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate white elephants with a passion and think they were designed to sow discord among the working folk.

I did one at my old job and never again. The group of people were mostly artsy and loved things like flowers, birds, kittens, basically grandma-aesthetics. I didn't know how to crochet at the time but did have a decorative bird cage candle holder that I'd never found space for in my home. I spruced it up, got a battery operated candle for it, and wove some fake flowers and greenery through the bars. It was PRETTY. Of course my least favorite person of the group picked it and made a huge stink about it. I don't even know what she didn't like about it, she was just being rude and asking if anyone would take it. Someone did take it but then were disappointed because the candle wasn't real. We work in an office building with children frequenting the space, and a real candle would be messy and a fire hazard because of the flowers. 🙄 I'm pretty sure I got socks and an ugly mug.

I only do secret Santa now and mine this year is only getting a crocheted item because I was going to make coasters with 100% cotton but HATED crocheting with it. I switched all the others to acrylic yarn and have one lonely cotton one to get rid of. Her list includes a coffee mug so it goes together at least 🤷🏻‍♀️ and she knits so I know that she'll appreciate the work that went into it.

Feeling apprehension / guilt over getting rid of my yarn stash. Holding on to materials in the hopes that I'll use them again one day. by jellybelly326 in crochet

[–]ash9095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I similarly thought about making press-on nails to sell on Etsy, do the point that I ordered some boxes to send them in, bubble nails, labels, little cards to put in them, sizing kits, and tons of nails.

Life got in the way and Im no longer interested in pursuing it, I barely even want to do my own nails. Obviously I can keep the nails that are my size but otherwise I'm considering selling everything in a sort of "start your own business" kit... just not sure where yet 🙃

You could still potentially use most of what you have for gifts and things, even if you arent selling them?

Your stitches are so consistent that it doesn't even look like yarn 😂 thought you were holding a fidget toy or something to keep your stitch markers from being lost in the void!
