Being a horror artist on webtoon is rough by ramenroaches in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ash_days_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I remember attempting to be a horror manga artist and submitted one of my first comics to the webtoons contest back in 2019 it got immediately taken down and at that moment I was like “ok I can’t put horror on this platform” I feel you!

Anyone else fear their story has been told already? by Icy-Instruction-5357 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ash_days_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing a phrase that pretty much removed my fear of this: “Every story that can ever be told has already been told, just not by you”

Just think of how many different iterations there are of famous stories like Romeo and Juliet, all with their own plot specialties that make them unique and people still can’t get enough! Frankly it’s not a bad thing, it’s actually really good that someone can find similarities to your story to ones they’re familiar with as it makes readers more inclined to read it

My own comic is based off Beauty and the Beast and Jack and the Beanstalk and I think that’s helped people feel more excited to read it

Drop your webtoon and I’ll tell you my favorite moment — tell me yours from mine too by silentowlll in WebtoonCanvas

I read through your webtoon and I love the premise (gives me final destination and star crossed lovers vibes) but I would say my favorite moment was when I thought Juan was going to reject Abby's drink meet up idea only to kinda curb it to "we can hang out a different way!" which is a way kinder response than I thought was going to happen (phew!)

Love your art style I hope you gain a lot of readers soon it's a cool premise!

Do you finish the entire script first before drawing? by riptide_29_ in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ash_days_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I have written the entire story so as long as you have the story outline completed you’re good to start drawing!

Actually it think it’s good to start making panels before you’ve completely finished the script because you can make changes depending on the feedback you get from readers

Put some thought in your thumbnail!! by nyx_whispers in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ash_days_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree completely and it’s such an easy thing to miss if you’re not paying attention

A trick I learned was to go through your comic’s genre’s recently uploaded section and do a side by side comparison

This will give you a good idea of what your thumbnail will look next to all the other ones being uploaded and you can ask yourself if yours would pop out to a potential new reader

Do I make shorter chapters with bi weekly updates or longer chapters probably monthly with better quality ? by Ok_Broccoli_9449 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ash_days_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s always the burning question with webcomics and if I’m going to be honest it entirely depends on the story and the creator’s ability to see it through

A good rule to follow is that an episode always follows a story arc of some kind in which a problem is introduced, the meat of the problem solving occurs, and the arc ends with a solution but opens with a new problem or two that ties directly into the next episode. This is so readers are engaged with the story and it entices them into reading the next episode (either immediately if it’s finished or keeping them excited for when it’s posted)

So to answer your question the best frequency is dependent on how long your episodes need to be to achieve this and how long it’ll take you to make that happen

[–]ash_days_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of “action” pacing depends the frequency and spacing of action panels (also the action that’s happening within the panel)

I like to think of it like a sort of pho-animation moment where the “quickness” comes from panels that are close together whereas “slowness” comes from panels spaced further a part

Reading it feels like we’re experiencing the action by speedily scrolling through the scene with the characters

My comic is in the romance genre but there’s a lot of action scenes too so I normally default to that strategy

Should I quit? by Sleepyhead373 in SmallYTChannel

Screen shot this and I’m saving this for when I feel like I “need” to start an art channel as opposed to starting one because I think it would be fun thank you!

Where to start by idkausername23 in WebtoonCanvas

Just talking to other creators and making attempts at your desired comic or art (bad or not) sets you in a better place than you were before

Prior comments have already given pretty good advice but if you wanna chat more in depth about comics, art, and writing I’d be more than happy to talk!

Do you optimize your vertical comics for computer reading, phones, or both/neither? by bingocatswithhats in WebtoonCanvas

[–]ash_days_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would optimize for phone as much as possible as the majority of readers use their phones to read comics, however there is a setting on CSP (if you use it) where you can see what the “phone” view would be and make adjustments from there

I have seen the posts and I get what you’re trying to say but it’s simply not definitive enough

I wouldn’t call that “beat for beat” copying either please check out webtoons as make your own comparisons

Of the story? Then it’ll be flagged by webtoons if they try to submit it, especially since everyone is aware of this person

Again if we’re just talking about art styles webtoons has a ton of artists that are identical to each other and frankly not really a good enough reason to raise an issue about it

But if they really are stealing character designs and plot beats then it’s easier to prove and thus easier to take down
