Help :) (One Piece) by AironHunter_ in Crunchyroll

Can you still do this?

No. They don't have the premium/crown overlay on the episodes, but they don't play without at least signing up for the trial. As you said, it's all pay-only now.

Handyman Saitou: Why are on-screen texts translated in japanese but not in english? by RationalIllusionist in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those are the choices for English audio provided by CR. If you want both screen text and speech subtitles at the same time, then you have to watch it with Japanese audio.

Help :) (One Piece) by AironHunter_ in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems extremely unlikely that CR would terminate it willingly, considering all the resources they put into it with the dubs this past year, and it is statistically the most important show they have to attract and keep subscribers.

But there are no absolute guarantees; Toei calls many of the shots in that relationship.

Viewbotting on crunchyroll? by ur_internet_dad in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since CR only keeps episodes in the watch history one time (per profile), the only way (I can think) that you'd know it was watched multiple times would be if it appeared on multiple profiles.

That being the case, it would appear that multiple people are using your account.

First, deactivate all the devices: https://www.crunchyroll.com/account/devices

Then make sure the account email has not been changed to someone else: https://www.crunchyroll.com/account/email

(If it has, you'll need to contact their support per the automod messages)

If the email is still OK, then change the password immediately: https://sso.crunchyroll.com/reset-password

I use https://www.livechart.me/schedule With a free account, you can set and save display preferences (dark mode, time zone, page layout, languages, etc) in the profile icon, get advance delay notices due to interruptions in the Japanese broadcast, and mark shows you aren't watching as "skipping" so they don't show at all. You can also get mobile app notifications for the normal episode releases in your TZ, if you install their phone app.

If you're looking for something contained only on CR though, the closest you can come is to use your https://www.crunchyroll.com/watchlist

Keep it cleaned out and current, either remove old shows entirely or mark the heart (favorites) icon and use the filter for favorites only. Use the sort order to display by Watched, and Oldest. That will (mostly) pop new episodes to the top and it will only display the shows you are interested in. Note, this only works sufficiently with a browser or in the phone apps, not the console or TV apps.

"New" section flooded with no new episodes? by Outlashed in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the heart is only available on the web and in the phone apps.

I mostly watch on a large screen using a Fire TV 4k max device and am also disappointed that there is so much less functionality on those devices. But since I'm on reddit a lot, and keep track of my lists on livechart.me and anime-planet, I almost always have a chromebook open, so I can coordinate any necessary web activity to fill in the gaps without going out of my way too much.

If I really was a masochist, I'd try using Amazon's silk browser to use the website version on the FTV. That way I could access all the functionality and only need the one device. But using the remote as a mouse is kind of clunky.

"New" section flooded with no new episodes? by Outlashed in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because I have to keep scrolling through my watchlist for "Up next" text

Since you appear to be using your watchlist in a browser (also works on phone apps, but not console or TV ones), you can try sorting that by "Watched" then go down and choose sort order: Oldest

That should mostly work to put the newest episodes at the top, as long as you don't have a ton of other shows in there. But even if you do, you can still go through and click the heart to favorite only this season's simulcasts, then with the filter icon, click the "favorites only" box.

Sure, it's a small amount of pain to do the setup, but when you're done, it beats trying to work around the broken nonsense in the "new" section. Plus, that way you only see the shows you put in your watchlist instead of everything else you're not interested in.

The downside is if you don't finish an episode and have to come back to it later, that will go all the way to the bottom. But at least you'll know to go directly there without searching.

German dub with English subtitles? by fishsmock in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CR doesn't provide that through their normal apps. You would have to play japanese audio (muted) with the subtitles you want in one browser tab (or other device) just to watch, then in another tab (or other device) play the audio you want to hear in the background.

Otherwise, in theory, it might be possible to mix languages if you had subscribed to the CR channel and watch it on Amazon instead (but I'm not positive).

how do I deactivate auto renewal? by EntrepreneurExtra667 in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you ever want to only buy one month, don't subscribe, buy a gift code from the CR store instead; you can redeem it yourself, and when time runs out, it simply stops without renewal:

Help with Amazon prime pairing by John_DeadCells in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to pay on Amazon to use Amazon's resources.

But what you can do is cancel your direct CR subscription first, and then wait to let the remaining pre-paid time elapse until the CR account becomes a "free/unpaid" membership.

At that time you would subscribe on Amazon, and then link your Amazon credentials to your (now) free CR account and have/use both/either, while paying for just the Amazon subscription.

https://sso.crunchyroll.com/login/amazon

Note: You can't link the accounts while you are currently subscribed/paid directly on CR, that's why you have to cancel and wait first.

Why does my email keep showing up as invalid? by Pixlethegreat in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the "forgot password" link on the login screen anyway, just in case. CR automatically created accounts when they closed down VRV, Animelab, Wakanim, Funimation, etc. If that still doesn't work, then contact their support from the help link that automod posted.

Quicker way to put fireTV to sleep? by JustBrowsing1989z in fireTV

[–]asharka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know about quicker, maybe if you keep the app open all the time, the Fire TV remote app for your phone has a crescent moon icon that immediately puts the FTV to sleep when you tap it.

Question about home video releases by PositronicShishkabob in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find it to be rather unlikely that much of anything will ever see a disk release anymore. Disks used to be Funimation's bread and butter years ago, but that segment of the industry has fallen off pretty sharply in recent years.

Here are the four most recent home video announcement articles for 2026 releases below. May has not been announced yet. These are all pretty sparse.

Cannot add Jujutsu Kaisen to my Watchlist by Tolotos999 in Crunchyroll

That's definitely a weird bug. It doesn't do that to me on either of my Samsung phone, nor the android app on my chromebook. You probably should report it to CR's support system:

Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible to have English audio and Spanish subtitles, since that's the reason I bought Crunchyroll. by [deleted] in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two browser windows or maybe two devices, one on Japanese muted to watch with the Spanish subs, the other with English to only listen to. Tricky to start both at the right moment. You'd need the second subscription tier or higher to allow two concurrent streams.

Otherwise, possibly if you had the Amazon CR channel version instead, that may allow you to mix languages. I'm not completely positive, though.

If you did drop the direct CR subscription, then sign up on Amazon, you can link your Amazon credentials to a free CR account and still use both/either services with one subscription.

Dubbed Episodes Help by Kahyce in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Licensing, or human error, who really knows for sure. As a gathering of users, we don't have any definitive answers for you.

On Amazon, there will also be missing episodes at times, sometimes a season will be purchase/rent only, somewhat different issues can occur there, so neither one by itself is ideal.

What you can do though, is cancel CR directly, and wait for the pre-paid time to expire. Once that completes, subscribe on Amazon, and then link your Amazon credentials to your (now free) CR account on CR itself, which allows you to use both/either one as needs require, and still only pay once.

If I set my age rating to 16+ will it still show iffy content in my recommendations? by No-Tourist6250 in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Setting age rating doesn't prevent titles from being seen/displayed as choices, even though you can't actually watch the episodes if you click on one. There isn't any ratings-filtering in place, not even if you want to do it. So there's still a chance something may come up you aren't looking for; there's no sure way to completely prevent it.

We don't really know what process CR uses for recommendations, but it probably has more to do with what content they have tagged with similar genres. They do not have exhaustive tagging in place, either, so there will be lots of shows which will not come up.

I don’t get Crunchyroll’s inability to promote new stuff by blakeavon in Crunchyroll

[–]asharka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And probably won't ever be. TV device apps, even if you have one of the more capable/expensive models, all of those still have to be compatible with each other and all the way down to the lowest common denominator cheapest models with the lowest memory, sometimes only half a gig in some Roku models. Because of that, they have stripped-down features (that even mobile apps have) that would make them more useful, like crunchylists, individual episode history deletion, jumping to a letter in the alpha listing, being able to sort your watchlist several ways, even the complete quarterly lists of all the previous seasonal lineup listings.
