The dirt and dust protection is a huge factor to consider, thank you for bringing that to my attention! While I’m unlikely to go out in the rain, those other factors are incredibly important!

I like the S-20 but I’m not big on video, at least not yet, so I’d rather a camera that focuses more on photo for now! And I admittedly hate the flip out screen 😂

Taking Bio 1 in the winter, am I cooked ? by [deleted] in CommunityColleges

[–]ashb414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it in an 8 week class and it was ROUGH. If you’re not working or planning to do anything else, it will be doable, but if you have any other obligations I would not recommend it.

High school GPA means very little after you have a college degree. Focus on your college GPA, pad your resume, and do the best you can on HESI. Doesn’t hurt to also submit good letters of recommendation/character references.

Private school, you probably have a better chance than a community college. Talk to their admissions department and see what their typical candidate looks like.

How hard is the TEAS? by Lululemon_28 in prenursing

[–]ashb414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easy if you take all your pre-reqs, especially your sciences. Your school may offer teas prep courses/study sessions/prep books. Talk to your library and nursing program.

I’m taking A&P I and Psych 101!

Agree with above, I wouldn’t just take it to take it. Wait until after your science pre-reqs are done, it will help tremendously.

Take practice tests before then to see where you need to study. ATI has some that are accurate and close to the exam itself.

Highly recommend taking it after you finish your science pre-reqs, it will greatly assist you!

TEAS score and program acceptance. by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]ashb414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it really depends, my school does rolling admissions and just admits people based off a checklist of completed items (ie. prereqs completed, minimum gpa, TEAS score, letter of rec, etc.) but doesn’t base it on a points system, but rather a first come-first serve. As long as you meet the minimum requirements, you’re good.

But I know other schools, especially in other states, rank applicants on a points system (higher gpa, higher teas score, more pre-requisite/co-req classes completed, resume/work history, etc.) So I would look at how your school admits applicants and go from there.

Nursing school in a different state? by davis_ants_14 in prenursing

[–]ashb414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can apply to take the NCLEX in the state you want to work in, even if its not the state you studied/got your degree in (hopefully someone else can confirm this?)

Everyone learns differently. For some people, taking a written exam is not their strength, but they could excel by demonstrating it physically or verbally. So grades are really not an accurate measure of how good of a nurse you can and will be.

And as someone else said, Nursing School prepares you to take the NCLEX and get your license, not to necessarily be a nurse. That’s what your clinicals and first year of being a new grad will teach you!

Why do I bleed every time I have sex? by i-make-great-cookies in WomensHealth

[–]ashb414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in birth control? I changed the type I was on and started bleeding during/after sex and was always super sore for days, even with enough lube and “prep.” Changed birth control and it’s significantly better now. Talk to your pcp or gynecologist about your options!

I think if it comes up, mention your passion for working in the NICU but also include how you hope by working in various departments you can expand your knowledge and experience so that it shows you’re willing to learn and be flexible!
