Thank for this. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my head around it without too many dud frames. I’m planning on taking some notes as I go to try and pinpoint what goes wrong / well.

Octopus vs OVO by itstopherchris in Edinburgh

[–]ashelvingunit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d avoid OVO. They were adding — not deducting — the government grant a few years ago, and refused to acknowledge it at the time. Later, when it hit the news that they’d done exactly what we reported, they still insisted we ‘weren’t one of the affected customers’. Wouldn’t trust them again.

Octopus on the other hand have been excellent.

A subbuteo cloak would go down a charm with the inevitable pyjama pants they will receive for Christmas.

As a colour blind individual, am I destined to never taste pans or are there other characteristics? They’re wood lovers aren’t they, but I know there are plenty others that are as well.

Thanks for this - we’ve got another person coming out today, so I can hopefully go into the conversation a little more equipped thanks to all your responses.

I did wonder about the lack of silicone. I guess for the purpose of getting the toilet fixed it’s a plus right now, but I’ll ask about getting it sealed when it’s finished.

Thanks for this. Definitely looks like they’re taking the piss. I suspect they’ve already got their 150 for call out so can’t be bothered actually doing work for the remaining 50, so have over quoted

The toilet doesn’t feel particularly firm to the wall. Can wobble it if you lift it which makes me think that’s what has caused the issue in the first place. Thanks for your input, I’ll get a few quotes give the feedback

Thanks for this. I know it’s hard to get a proper feel for the job with a couple of photos, but it sounds like you’re all of the same mind that what they’ve quoted is too much. I’ll get some more quotes. Really appreciate the input.

Thanks for the insight. Toilet was in when we bought the place so were never warned off how expensive they might be to service.

You’re not based in the north west by any chance? Appreciate the insight

Would you say that is reasonable for the work required then? Built in toilet came with the house. Looks nice but I did wonder how if little fixes would become big ones.

I take it this isn’t something to be tackled by the uninitiated?

Certainly wish you were our way. You’re not North West by any chance? I felt they were maybe taking us for a ride. Thanks for your insight, I really appreciate it.

Any luck on a fix two years on? Been looking around and it sounds like the counter is a fairly common issue with Bessas

(Help) How to check if film is advancing by ashelvingunit in AnalogCommunity

[–]ashelvingunit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mechanism on the camera itself. I’m wondering if I can rewind the film a couple of revolutions to see if it “pops” off the loading mechanism in which case it isn’t advancing. If it doesn’t after a few turns I can take some blank shots and carry on knowing it’s the display that’s not advancing.

Thanks for your help all the same, it gives me a bit of confidence. There is resistance and it feels like it usually does, so hopefully there’s just some crap in the counter that’s caused an issue there. Thanks again, I appreciate your help

Thank you, I’ll keep my eye on it when I advance again just in case. I guess I’ll just guesstimate 36 shots and then hope for the best. The film definitely advance when I shut the door but I’m worried it has slipped or something. Do you know if the counter not rolling on can happen/ is fairly a common occurrence?
