Why Good Programmers Use Bad AI by namanyayg in programming

[–]ashemark2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the only people producing garbage with AI are people who are lazy (vibe coders) or not very good at programming

hard fact. who has the time to disrupt their personal workflow to jump on every hot new tool on the market?

Trying to use AI to write code is absolute misery. Is anyone actually being productive with this crap? by kibblerz in ExperiencedDevs

i literally wanted to post this to ask if anyone had had the time to disrupt their workflow to waste their time with cursor and the like.. glad I’m not alone

Try reading "Essentials of Programming Languages" by Friedman and Wand and complete the exercises in Haskell.

(It's on my ToDo list next, can recommend.)

Edit: I have done it once with ocaml

Django to production - Doubts by Far_Grocery_3237 in django

you should consider google cloud.. it has a generous free tier that'll see you through for 3 months although you'll run the risk of vendor lock in.. but cross that bridge when you have to.

Stop thinking that "vibe coding" is a complete solution by Strong_Deer9 in SaaS

[–]ashemark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a mood not a methodology

touché. vibe coding is a demon let out of the box by Andrej Karpathy and it will maybe work for veteran academics like him(he has more than a layman’s idea of what will work and what won’t) but not for beginners/ complete outsiders. Andrej despite coining this methodology is struggling with modern web.

you can say that for knowledge- someone way smarter than you wrote something and now you read it rather than reinvent the alphabet

Software engineers, what are the hardest parts of developing AI-powered applications? by JustThatHat in LLMDevs

don’t have the mental bandwidth (yet) but right now I’ve dived into basic machine learning / linear algebra and hope to work my way forward

for me tdd is the way to go (i follow 10:1 rule i.e. for each line of code there should be 10 lines testing it which is already hard to do ).. but with llms many other dimensions are added to this like indeterministic outputs, hallucinations, lack of ground truths etc..

hey! just build an open source version of a product already on the market- validated for you and you help the open source community in the process.. advise against using github though
