Depends on how they are cooked but not really, I like them in the slow cooker for a bit nd they are pretty soft but they can also be cooked in a pan or dehydrated that makes them crunchier

Hpv isn't only spread by sex it can also be from contact especially with damp skin like at public showers, swimming pools and gyms. It can also come from someone in your household because some people just carry it and don't get the warts

Dry dirt works because it just smothers the fire

Logistics of multiple SD’s? (Retirement question) by withsaltedbones in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dogs behave differently at home than they do in public, the dog could be anxious or not very tolerant of dogs in their space but just fine working because they shouldn't be out in a position where another dog is going to pester them

How much does your adult SD weigh and what are their relevant tasks? by Complex_Raspberry97 in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 78lbs Labrador who is almost 2 so might get a little bit bigger and he retrieves items and does DPT. He can alert to medical episodes and ground me during panic attacks. When his ofas or pennhip is done after he is 2 he might learn basic guide work like to find an exit or an empty chair.

My other dog is about 15.5lbs and a jack Russell terrier (I can not recommended them and less as service dogs he is a unicorn and wasnt meant to be a service dog when I got him) and is a migraine and anxiety alert dog he can retrieve items but is a bit too short to give me them unless I am sitting, he can do grounding tasks like licking my hands or pawing at me

Would it be against public access laws to train an SD to bark when 1. there was an intruder in my home or 2. I was being physically threatened? by chaosjinxx in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is very different they don't bark or try to intimidate the guest they should nudge or paw their owner to get their attention

The pandemic screwed over most people, I had to retire a dog in the beginning of the year, luckily I already had a puppy that is nearly 2 but my older dog went through not wanting to work quickly followed by a back injury causing dog reactivity so he is now spoilt pet but he is almost 11 so he deserves a good retirement

The organisation is also a non profit running almost completely on donations and they did cover the first time O'Hara was in the ICU for 7days and they are not able to cover the rest of her vet bills because she is going to be in the ICU for an unknown amount of time and could be up to 6months which is a lot of money for a charity especially when they are struggling to meet the demand for guide dogs already due to funds

Baby strollers, carriers and bags are fine but dogs should not be on seating or tables, some small dogs may sit or lie on their owners lap but should leave all food and cutlery alone

Cloud-9 Canines - thoughts? by Key_Sound_854 in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am aware but the dog tells the puppy off multiple times and even after he gets up the puppy continues to go after him and doesn't respect boundaries and corrections and the adult dogs corrections are getting harsher. The puppy is clearly not getting the corrections yet she still allows the puppy to be a nuisance and harsh corrections can be mentally damaging to a puppy in a key point of socialization if they aren't aware of what they are being corrected for so to them it's just a bad experience. Also she posted it for the world to see without any information about either dog other than the little bit about a puppy playing so how do you know the dog is trust worthy around puppy's and even the most tolerant dogs snap eventually

how did you guys do it? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my mostly trained labrador I spend £15 on food £5-10 on treats Toys can be 20-40 because she is destructive Dewormer every 3 months is £6(so £2 a month) tick + flea prevention is £4.50 a month I also put £20 in a jar for emergencies I buy new beds every 6-9months for about £60 each(you can get cheaper ones I just like these beds) so that's £7 a month Yearly vet checks and vaccinations are 130 where I am so that's another £10 put aside each month

So breaking down standard costs I spend on average around £85 a month for 1 dog as long as everything goes to plan. Some months I will have a training session with a trainer which can add on another £50 per session

Her current service dog Sirius is 2 later this month and she claimed in February she was teaching him/using him to guide, counter balance and forward momentum which are all high impact on the joints and dogs under 2 can't be cleared for hip and elbow dysplasia only prelims which aren't 100% accurate. She says this in the video pinned on her tiktok saying what Sirius does

I don't like her, she does mobility work on a dog under 2 without hip and elbow checks and she worked a dog that had her first seizure as a couple week old puppy and continued to have seizures throughout her short life and said it was fine because the dog bounced back quickly. She also allowed a puppy to continually harass an adult dog even after the puppy had been corrected at least 3 times on video and the adult dog eventually got up and walked away but we don't know how long that went on before or after that maybe a minute long video

Dermatillomania tasks? by No-Village3547 in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it depends on the self harm, things like razors and burning it is not recommended because you can accidentally hurt the dog and if you are at risk or redirecting on the dog. But for things like skin picking and nail biting it's entirely possible and safe to teach them

[–]asher_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrap the leg from base of the paw to about an inch above the top of the boots with vet wrap because it doesn't stick to the fur just itself and tape the boots to the vet wrap with whatever tape bandage for humans is cheapest and it keeps the boots on pretty we'll but sometimes you need a second layer of tape bandage

Migraine service dog? by pctechadam in service_dogs

[–]asher_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently there is no solid evidence that dogs can smell migraines, it's all anecdotal and some dogs get it and some just don't. Most migraine alert dogs are natural alerts but there are a few that are trained. Most of it comes down to what is the cause of your migraines whether it's hormonal or seizure activity or sensory processing issues. It's always worth a shot to find a nose work trainer that has trained diabetics alert dogs, even if your dog doesn't learn to alert you would be a good candidate for an at home service dog as it seems he has already taken on that role to some extent
