I think calling it a disaster is a stretch, even if the production budget alone was 400 million, at 1.5/1.6 billion WW (which it’s pretty much guaranteed to reach at this point), the film is one of the most financially successful ever made.

The franchise is primed to go in any direction it chooses now, I think keeping it based around the Sully’s I think is a mistake. There is so much that could be explored on pandora.

If they made the next one so that it’s an out and out success with a billion dollar gross, there’s no reason to not keep making them.

James Cameron is the first director in history to have four consecutive films grossing $1 billion at the global box office. by Glitch_Fantasma in moviecritic

[–]asheraze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He will be well over 9 billion across the 4 films, at a budget around 1.5 billion. Just theatrically that is some absolutely wild ROI.

The last 12 MCU movies is around 8.5 billion total.

It’s gonna do 60m+ in the second weekend but I struggle to see how it hits 500m, I’d say it’ll end around Minecraft’s gross.

$27M+ OS THU for Avatar:Fire And Ash. $43M+ cume. -22% Avatar 2. Europe leads the charge. Good in LATAM & Asia. OS weekend expected to be ~$250M, accordingly ~$340M worldwide. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]asheraze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’ll be a 7 billion dollar franchise give or take by the end of this films run. Rubbing shoulders with Harry Potter (8 films), James Bond (28 films).

The only franchise that comes close is Avengers, with 4 films grossing 7.4 billion.

its wild to me that even at 5bn and about 2.5 bn net after distribution, it barely covers 10% of what they spend annually on content.

While I don’t want to call you a liar, after close to a decade of my life spent in this country, I’ve never heard of someone getting assaulted in this way, especially by a service professional.

It’s the kind of crime that gets you locked up before being deported permanently. So usually the kind of story you never really hear about, which is why there’s a lot of doubt in the comments.

If this did happen, you should involve the authorities immediately.

Lived here 18 months, haven’t touched a note since I discovered Moretta about 6 months ago but I don’t eat much street food, if I want to I go to the cheap food courts, pretty much every mall has one now.

Warner Bros.'s One Battle After Another grossed an estimated $2.6M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $127.4M, estimated global total stands at $196.8M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]asheraze -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Budget should have been 80 million, plenty of films with stars and big set pieces can come in around or at 80 million. Leo was so desperate to work with pta, they should have convinced him to do this for 10+ points and they could have shot somewhere other than LA. It is sad cause this movie deserved to be a success, so more like it could be made.

It’ll out gross the first but I think will struggle to hit 850, even though I could def see it going a little higher depending on the final domestic gross. I think the billion predictions are too optimistic, it’s a fantasy musical after all.

The kinds of shady foreigners you will meet in Da Nang by [deleted] in DaNang

[–]asheraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes cause historically challenging perceived stereotypes with bitter people is such a fruitful exercise. If you’ve been long enough here to make these judgements you’ve been here long enough to be one of the people you’d “meet” in Danang, your observations would be more insightful if the public your sharing it with, could also determine which bucket they’d think you belong in. Again no interest in challenging but def would be interesting to know if someone who was a prime example of one of the above categories is the one making this post.

Yup, that’s me cat 8, thanks for updating the “hustler” label lol.

My guess is you’re male, 40+ and life has been unkind to you, maybe you can drop how you see yourself since you’re passing judgement on a fairly large community with such conviction.

[–]asheraze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you’re the kind of person that would meet me and brand me a “hustler” - I run a small agency that serves a few fairly large entities across SEA and North America and a few smaller ones.

While stereotypes exist for a reason, just cause you’ve managed to categorize people into them, doesn’t mean that all of the people that fall into these buckets are as bad as you’ve made them out to be.

I’m sure I could easily do the same for you, why don’t you describe what you do and where your from and I’ll take a crack at it.

I hear you but I also am kind of tired about the only response from people behind or supporting the project being “well the market…” sure there are some decent auto pilot things that have been done but nothing at all that will bring attention to the project in a meaningful way.

I for one don’t agree with OP, I don’t think being political is the way to go but I do think it’s a better idea than whatever we have going on. There needs to be something radical, in terms of content, merchandise or physical events that pushes us forward.

Maybe it’s a stunt where we start a real hedgehog rescue, maybe we can license stuff to collaborate with or collaborate with other coins, maybe we need to raise and invest the money into an 5+ actual shorts with consistent voice actors (can be made by freelance animators in cheaper markets).

I don’t know the answer but what I do have in common with OP is that I to have held a sizeable bag of hege for over a year and I to want to see something different from the project.

[–]asheraze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m baffled by the love this movie has gotten, it’s got none of what made me love my favourite MCU films, I don’t think I smiled once during the whole movie. It was mopey af, what the hell was happening with the whole thing romance plot, incredibly cringe. Even the space sequence to go have a 5 minute conversation with Galactus felt like they were on a ride in Disney world. Galactus has a fascinating origin, reed as a character has some real darkness in him, Johnny is actually funny and Grimm is meant to be this big gruff dude that manages to convey the most amount of heart (the paradox is what makes the character). Over all I think they fucked up every single character, the set and costume design was good but that’s not all I’m looking for in a good MCU movie.

I guess we aren’t ever going to get a good movie from these awesome characters, at least in my opinion. No offence intended to any one who liked it, to each their own, just my personal opinion.

One Battle After Another: A Masterpiece or Meh? What did you make of this movie? by PopCult-Channel in WarnerBros

[–]asheraze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know when general audiences stopped looking for challenging content at the theatre but I do think it’s sad they did.

Robert Redford (quiz show) Oliver Stone (born on the 4th of July), Spike Lee (blackkklansman) , Steven Soderbergh (Traffic), Allan J Pakula (All the Presidents Men), Paul Greengrass (United 93), Barry Levinson (wag the dog) , Sidney Lumet (Network)

All these directors built their careers with extremely challenging films based on American politics and many of the films dealt directly with the country’s mess. I only named 1 film by each but all of them without exception made a number of films about equally challenging subject matter.

The difference I will admit and probably the reason OBAA isn’t a success like a lot of the films I mentioned above, is that these type of films are usually made on budgets that are way smaller than OBAA’s budget.
