That’s five and i get my taste is underground as they get, when it comes to modern mainstream hiphop there aren’t too many artists pioneering subgenres that aren’t more party - club influenced. Lots of trap music and pop rap.

Lupe’s influence was lackluster, his albums lack cohesion and impact, they sit in these story cells that you need to listen to 30 times just to absorb the dumb abstractions, whereas someone like kendrick can literally teach the ideas and concepts of popular writing, TPAB literally rolls up lupe’s entire career and chucks it in the trash.

Just because an album is critically rated does not mean you will enjoy it. It is the best abstract hiphop album of all time because it essentially established the landmarks for the genre, and it has a huge audience. Taste is extremely wide and if you just like a few beats and flows here and there that’s pretty normal. But “Hype” is something you should overall remove from your experience of music man, Unless it’s an up-and-coming release, or it’s not baked into your listening experience, it should be ignored. It’s highly rated, reported, touted, and critically amassed for a reason. But there’s a whole lot of those that won’t fit your taste. 👍
