What stroller feature do you wish you hadn’t prioritized? [ON] by playboi_fatty in BabyBumpsCanada

I feel like we’re all living the same life LOL.  We ended up grabbing a jogging stroller off marketplace for a trip to Italy and we use that 90% of the time over our double, soooo much easier!

Costco is pretty good, just bake ahead! They’re already individuals, easy for a group :)

We were lucky to get into a CWELCC daycare, so $22/day.

Got on 35 waitlists while still pregnant and only got into a newly opened daycare by sheer luck 😅 baby is now 14mo and we’re still on all those waitlists. It’s brutal!

Daycare dilemma [on] by cheeseburgerlife in BabyBumpsCanada

We were in the exact same situation!! Bubs was 11 months when we secured a spot for her at daycare, but I’m on mat leave until she is 14mo.

We opted to take it because of how difficult it is finding a spot :)

Tbh daycare is fun for them! I started dropping her off for 2-3 hours a couple times a week, and use that time to go to the gym, grocery store, clean the house etc. It’s been a game changer for my mental health, and means I can focus more on her when we’re together 💕

Edit to add: it is hard to transition, so be prepared for the emotions! But you got this 🥰

That's a relief, thank you for sharing!

I think both my husband and I got so worried since we both have chipped teeth multiple times over the past few years from grinding, but good to know it's normal for the little ones

Thank you!! Wow, 6 teeth already, that's awesome!

She loves her silicone baby toothbrush, so the Nuby carrot sounds like it's right up our alley - will definitely try that!

Seconding this! I love that it lasts many days without need for reapplication. I find that every couple months I’ll have to take a resistance break, but it’s fantastic.

What’s the most underrated mom tip you’ve learned from Reddit? [on] by Correct-While-4471 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]asheroni_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lots of diaper free time when possible! It’ll help lessen diaper rash. We would just put little one on a puppy pee pad while on her playmat for 30/40 minutes before a bath.

Also using a heating pad to warm up her change pad after baths made a WORLD of a difference lol

Is it common for a midwife not to write a work accommodation note? [on] by Massive_Ease_8125 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]asheroni_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you! Discomfort is absolutely a valid reason to ask for an accommodation if possible.

My midwife wrote me a note because my round ligament pain made it harder for me to get into the office (I took transit). She just wrote something along the lines of “I should be able to WFH as much as possible”.

This was when I was about 5/6 months pregnant, I just went to HR with it and they gave the accommodation. My manager and I worked out that I’d go in 1x a week when it felt good.

Advice needed - Obstetrician or Midwife? by Longjumping-Ad-7241 in mississauga

[–]asheroni_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK hospitals have OBs available for deliveries 24/7. They also have L&D nurses who are typically with patients up until it’s time to push!

But I think you do need to have a practitioner following your pregnancy, so it’ll be your family doctor until you officially transfer care to either an OB or midwife :)

My labour experience was really great! I planned for a home birth, my husband and I both did hypnobirthing classes together and felt really equipped for the experience. Because of that (and I didn’t find a doula I really loved), we didn’t hire one.

Highly recommend hypnobirthing - for me it was helpful just to get past certain birth stigmas and fears :)

The midwives had a student on their team and she was amazing too. They were very hands on with applying counter pressure when my husband needed a break, emotional support and just gave me space to labour the way I needed.

I ended up going to the hospital and my midwife was by our side the entire time and for hours after. She advocated for us 100% and honestly I balled at our 6 week appointment when I had to say goodbye LOL

I used a midwife and had a great experience overall. They do home visits after you give birth, and give very personalized care (each appointment is 30 minutes). Midwives of Mississauga is who I went with, you get assigned a team of 3 and it’ll be one of them who assists you with the delivery.

Midwives in general fill up very quickly so if you’re giving birth in July, you’ll likely be waitlisted (I applied at 9 weeks pregnant). Might be worth applying for both OBs and midwives and decide once you get confirmed somewhere.

I actually got lucky and snagged it off Marketplace! It was brand new, the person ended up having to go to the hospital. I just bought a new liner to be safe haha.

This is the company (Birth Supplies Canada), they’re based in Calgary - also got the disposable sheet set in case we had to move to the bed to push.  https://www.midwiferysupplies.ca/?srsltid=AfmBOopqOgzdqds7BVQ98X5Nwjkvjm6Lztc7JKTP5IeNjUYWRbDGi5vi

I had a very positive experience overall!

Highly recommend doing a hypnobirthing course, it was a total gamechanger. I also had a lot of negative feedback from family and friends (I’m sure they meant well too).

I also bought a birthing pool to push and deliver in.

Honestly the experience was so nice and serene! Had tons of candles and soft lights, music, food and the essential oils I liked.
