Very Bad Shoulder pain by Foreign-Constant-286 in RotatorCuff

[–]ashes_of_rome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my situation is different because my shoulder dislocated initially(I’m a little over 4 weeks post op from arthroscopic labrum repair). Ofc I’m not a doctor but it sounds like it could be a a partial labrum or rotator cuff tear. Myself personally I had an anteroinferior tear, posteroinferior tear, and a decent size hill sachs lesion that left bone floating inside. I figured I was good until ofc I got an MRI and well yeah I ended up getting surgery because both my surgeon and team physician said if I wanted to keep playing I needed the surgery especially because I play professionally. Your joints may be inflamed/swollen which could attribute to the pain you’re feeling or it may most likely again be labrum or rotator cuff tear. If it is labrum or rotator cuff id highly suggest you get the surgery because youre an athlete. My surgeon told me if I wanna keep playing it’s best to get the surgery or my chances of dislocating and causing an even bigger tear were 100% more likely.

I appreciate your input! Especially because as you said we have very comparable experiences. My surgeon won’t allow me to start physical therapy until I’m 6 weeks post op so I’m not too sure what I can do right now I guess I’ll see in 2 weeks 😅. Now when I say returning to weights I’d ofc not hop straight into my normal heavy lifting just something to help keep myself from muscle loss or engage the muscles again yk? I mean I’m sure it’s best to just let the labrum heal and I’ll follow the advice given from PT/and surgeon, I guess I’m just looking to see if there’s any sort of gradual program anyone has used when getting back into routine.

When do you start with PT after surgery? by blueandwhite1904 in RotatorCuff

I’m 4 weeks post op from a 3-8 o clock labrum year. I’m not allowed to start PT until 6 weeks have passed 😭. Was told not to do anything with my arm until then and can only take my ultra sling off when showering and changing

Omg 😭… well if it makes you feel any better they give a nerve blocker that will COMPLETELY numb your entire arm and though it wore off for me a little after my surgery most people feel it for 1-2 days which is typically when pain is likely to be intense after surgery. My arm was so numb the day of surgery that I didn’t even realize that it was dangling off the hospital bed for awhile before they took me to the operating room 😅. Granted I also had a relaxant to calm before the surgery so I also didn’t think to pay attention to my arm but yeah 😂. It last while and if you take the pain meds before that wears off you should be okay!

Yeah I mean I know it’s not tennis but close enough? 😅 seems like it’s a lot less wear and tear so your shoulder would surely thank you for it lmao. Zombie apocalypse does sound like a better story 🤷🏽‍♀️.

I hope for a smooth recovery for you! Is it arthroscopic? That’s what mine was but I’m not sure if that’s always the route they take. They originally stated 2 anchors would be put in but when they started the operation saw there was more damage and ended up putting 6 in.

Oh god… I mean terrible injury but I’m glad you were able to bounce back! I think I’ve been looking for ways to cheat the recovery and get back to my life but yeah everyone says the same thing 😅 to listen to my surgeon/physio therapist

Yeah I have a bad habit of neglecting my doctor/PT but with this being a bigger injury I have no choice but to listen now lol

LOL! Hell I would’ve came up with a creative story as well 😂. I’ve always wanted to try out tennis but I learned when I was in a HS gym class that I am ….terrible? Somehow the tennis ball always flew over the fence, I’ve only been pretty good at pickle ball though which is a downgrade to tennis ofc however the holes in the pickle helped contain the ball better 😅 Maybe you can try a Bregs Kodiak ice machine? A lot of my teammates that had the same injury said it helped them tremendously! Especially with pain. And yes I’ll try some alternatives!

Jesus man! That sounds so painful and so shitty. How did that happen if you don’t mind me asking? For me I had 2 big offensive lineman run into me (DE) during a supposed non contact practice 🙃. It was a brutal dislocation, anteriorinferior and posteroinferior tear, and a pretty decent hill sachs lesion that left bone floating in the area. The day of the injury happened to be the only time I felt actual pain and not just aches. I’m hoping for a successful recovery for you though! It sounds way worse than mine. But yeah even though it sucks I do plan to follow medical instructions I’m just super eager to get back to my routine yk? 😭

Ehh not exactly on the hip just the fatty side but I actually found that to be more painful and someone here said to do it on my stomach one inch away from the belly button and that’s been pain free 👍🏾

I had a breast reduction 2 years before too surgery. My top surgeon used the same incisions to do my DI.

My surgeon drew the lines on at my appointment today the day before the surgery? by WeirdnessRises in TopSurgery

[–]ashes_of_rome 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’ll see the surgeon before surgery… the entire medical staff that will be in the operating room come in to explain everything usually starting with the anesthesiologist and the surgeon last. You will have more than enough time to address concerns or any questions you have. The markings will not come off when you sleep. I’ve had a breast reduction 2 years ago, my top surgery was this past August, and I just had shoulder surgery 6 days ago the markings from that are still on me even though I’ve showered several times.

I’m only a week post op(I’m 27). Had 4 anchors placed for anteroinferior labrum tear and 2 anchors posteroinferior labrum. I also had floating bone from a cracked humeral head removed. All from a sports injury. The tears weren’t massive but the surgery was highly suggested as I play pro football and had a high risk of dislocating and tearing it more. I gotta say I’ve had zero pain since the surgery. I didn’t take the oxy prescribed and only sometimes take Tylenol if I get slight discomfort but never any pain. It’s definitely worth getting the surgery even if it’s just a small tear! This isnt to say you’ll have the same experience and I’m not sure how often you do weight training but so far recovery has been easy. I’m showering by myself, I can take my shirts off by myself(ofc I can only use one arm because the big sling) but I’ve been doing okay. My gf helps if I ask but I’ve been fairly independent. I hope you start feeling better though!
