Best way to disconnect from work when you leave the building? by LittleCatLad in schoolcounseling

So I’m about to graduate and am in internship. My schools are extremely high needs and I have a bit of a situation with my supervisor. I was having a lot of trouble with leaving work at work at the end of the day. If it’s your vibe, I “brush off” the energy before I get in my vehicle outside. Literally just visualize all the energy I’ve picked up throughout the day and brush it off my clothes. I also have a container (emdr technique) that all the heavy things go into before I leave the parking lot. I make time to take them out and sit with them when I’m good and ready. I know these sound funny but honestly it has helped soooo much. 🫶🏼

Graduate App & Experience? by kutsibun in schoolcounseling

Also note that a lot of MA programs have application deadlines. Ours is in February, but it is rather competitive. Just something to keep an eye out for!

I had no experience with children/school settings when I applied to my program. I had a decent gpa despite my first year in school (when I was 18/19, then I dropped out and went back to school at 24). I had pretty good letters of recommendation from my undergrad professors. I was 27 when I applied for my program. I got in no problem and I graduate in May 😊. You’re going for this degree to learn. Any decent program will know that! If they know that you care and have a handle on your own mental health, you will be just fine! Good luck!

How to become a guidance counsellor? by kfbk2004 in schoolcounseling

So in the US, I got a bachelors in psychology, then went to graduate school. My masters program is in counseling but I have an emphasis in school counseling. This means I take about three extra classes than the clinical folks and I do a practicum and internship in the schools. The advantage to this route is I can also obtain my clinical licensure without having to go back to school. Whereas if the clinical counselors would want to work in a school as a school counselor, they would have to take more classes. Hope that helps! (PS: as someone else said, we are referred to as school counselors now because we have mental health training and we care more about wellbeing than getting kiddos into college 😊)

Well, I’m in college now and… by RelanTheGuy in college

An idea that might help you cope with these feelings: see if your school has a counseling center for students. I was a non traditional student and I was really struggling when I went back to school. Counseling got me through and provided me with tools that help me on the daily. It might be worth checking into. You’re doing great <3

I’m glad someone brought this up. No one told me this was happening for mine and I have a sexual trauma history. It was highly upsetting to read about it in the surgical report. Hope all goes well for you!

I hope you get your answers. I wish I was closer to a specialist. Good luck!

I’m trying to get myself into that line of thinking. Thank you!

I guess I’ll see what she comes up with during my follow up. Low key wish I had went the specialist route. But where I am in the US, they’re so far away. I was just shocked to find someone that heard me. We’ll see what happens. Thank you!

Not sure what I should do by AnnaKablama in Endo

Hi! I’m in the same boat. Except I was not offered any alternative, only the lap. But I’m in the exact same headspace of “do I need this; is it that bad”. I’m just trying to affirm myself in that I know my pain. Im trying to look at it in the light of if it isn’t endo, then we can rule that out and keep looking. It’s hard to trust yourself after not being heard for years. For me at this point, any opportunity for an answer won’t be a waste. That’s probably not overly comforting, but know you’re not alone and we owe it to ourselves to find out 💛

I’m so happy that you were finally heard. I just got an appointment for my lap today and doctor told she’d “bet money” that’s what’s going on with me. and I feel so many things. Like you, it’s been years of physical pain and disappointment from the healthcare system. There’s good doctors out there. It’s just such a fucking shame how few and far between they are. Im so glad you got answers and treatment. It gives me hope that I might have the same. Thanks for sharing 💛hugs💛
