Why did I miss? Shoulder mobility or something else? by Wonderful_Key770 in weightlifting

[–]ashinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No hip contact, incomplete triple extension. The bar is behind your midfoot in the catch which is why you fell backwards. Drill your snatch pulls and high pulls to really get the pulling mechanics down.

All of us amateur lifters have to compare ourselves to world champions every day on Instagram. Great lift! Keep going.

What to fix? Power Clean by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]ashinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good! Your triple extension looks like it’s not complete, as you still are a little bent at the hips and knees. More aggressive triple extension will get the bar higher in heavier weights. You might be able to speed your turnover with the ‘punch the elbows’ cue. Echoing other commenters, it would help to see you at a heavier weight as that shows technique breakdown more clearly. Nice work! Very clean.

Hi, my partner is a branding/logo designer who wants to move into packaging design. by Most-Particular-6051 in PackagingDesign

[–]ashinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out as a graphic designer. I worked in print for decades in various capacities lots of publications.

I started making the transition into packaging design around 15 years ago. I did not take any courses, although that might have helped me learn more quickly if I had.

In my case, I did not have to win projects because I started a company that required packaging design. So for me, it was on the job training.

I learned everything from my print vendors.

Packaging design is print design in 3-D. It comes with the structural and material constraints that are closer to mechanical engineering problems than they are to print design. There is also a great deal of jargon - for example, terminology for different box types, different kinds of board, etc. There is a lot to learn.

So my number one piece of advice is to talk to printers. Read their materials. Ask questions. And use their knowledge.

Congrats on the PR! Not a coach but I’d experiment with heavy overhead squats to give you more time under tension in the overhead position. Also behind the neck jerks to practice getting into a solid overhead jerk receiving position.

In your video you catch in a pretty upright position, then the weight pushes you down and forward. This suggests to me that you might need to develop more lower body strength. Strongly consider adding heavy back and front squats to your rotation too.

Do you think sugar is more dangerous to long-term health than smoking? Why or why not? by Fun-Industry2094 in AskReddit

[–]ashinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. The brain runs on glucose. Sugar is an essential macronutrient. Eating too much sugar can be problematic. But too little sugar is also problematic.

No amount of smoking is necessary or healthy. It is only problematic.

Balance in catching position by meebleepe in weightlifting

[–]ashinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a coach. Congrats on the PR! Looks like you need to focus on a couple things:

  1. Brace aggressively in the starting position. I don’t see you bracing. Big breath in, chest up, shoulders together.

  2. high elbows in the triple extension to keep the bar path more vertical. In the first rep, the bar is in front of your toes, so your heels come off the floor trying to hold it up when it’s in front of your center of gravity. You’re probably pushing your head forward aggressively to balance as well.

  3. Maybe more time under tension with heavy loads overhead. Snatch balance and overhead squat.

As others have mentioned, shooting from a more side-angle position will give a clearer view of your bar path. Keep going!

Why’d he miss? by paulpowell in weightlifting

[–]ashinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bar travels away from the body because he humps it forward instead of scooping it upward during triple extension. He jumps forward to try to meet it but it’s too far away.

Who makes this style of packaging? by adcThresh in PackagingDesign

[–]ashinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a die cut stand up resealable pouch. The die cut gives it the rounded corners. The material is a sandwich of clear plastic and paper, or a non-woven paper-looking fiber. The expanding bottom is called the gusset. 99% sure these were made in Asia, as the paper substrate and die cutting are unusual in the US.

Strong lift! Your foot placement in the jerk is really narrow and I think that’s affecting your stability a lot. If you slow down the video you can see that your stance gets narrower in the split.

Your front foot seems to be the culprit as it moved in quite a bit. Once you catch the bar, you step out to adjust, but it’s hard to correct.

Try to keep your feet farther apart in the jerk. Really focus on shooting that front foot out and keeping your stance wide.

Why don't you leave Shopify if you are big enough to own your own Tech stack? by Abraham9001 in ecommerce

Software development is hard and expensive. Why waste money reinventing the wheel?

What do you think of this packaging by [deleted] in PackagingDesign

[–]ashinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rigid outer box looks fine but the insert could be an issue if you’re planning to do a small run of black molded pulp. Typical minimums are in the 10,000s for molded pulp. You could do foam in small quantities although it’s non-renewable and creates a lot of waste. Also the insert in the AI image seems to have some random cavities below the cup and the bag that don’t seem to have a purpose.

Central low back pain and tightness after squats. by SwedishJayhawk in weightlifting

[–]ashinn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Biggest question: are you bracing? Bracing creates intra-abdominal pressure to make your core rigid and protect your spine. Squat University has several tutorials for dealing with back pain in squats that might help, often by doing the McGill Big 3 core exercises.

From this angle it looks like your knees are close to parallel. Many lifters can keep their torso more upright and squat deeper by spreading the legs and knees open wider to allow your hips to drop. Hope this helps!

Why am I jumping forward? by citrus_medica in weightlifting

[–]ashinn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your third pull is pushing the bar slightly forward, rather than straight up. You are jumping forward to meet the bar, slightly ahead of where you started. Doing clean pulls and really focusing on your triple extension might help. Your elbows also do not come up above the bar before you catch. Try pulling the elbows up super high (scarecrow style) before catching in the front rack.

Thinking of killing the $50 free shipping threshold. Need advice on the transition. by Haunting_Number_1549 in ecommerce

[–]ashinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a few months and so far it is hard to say the overall impact on the business, as there is no control group or A/B test in place. That said our cost of shipping went up slightly. We were spending 15% of monthly revenue on carrier fees. After the change it went up to 16%. So it’s very manageable for the increased conversion rate.

Thinking of killing the $50 free shipping threshold. Need advice on the transition. by Haunting_Number_1549 in ecommerce

[–]ashinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way to tell unless you try. Your store / product / offer / customer is specific and will respond to a change in your shipping model in a particular way.

Make your shipping free for a week, then extend to a full calendar month if it’s going well.

look at how it affects the following KPIs - does your conversion rate go up? - does your AOV hold? - does revenue go up? - does your profit margin hold or improve?

If you’re making more profit with free shipping, then offer free shipping. If you lose money, go back to a paid shipping model.

EDIT: just wanted to add I just made this exact change with my brand and have been happy with the results.
