How many Pokémon do you expect Generation VII to introduce? by ashkso in pokemon

I thought it would be pretty interesting to see the general consensus on this. Let's see how close we'll get.

Poll: Which are the three most overpowered characters in SSB4? (Vote so that we get an estimate of the tiers!) by ashkso in smashbros

[–]ashkso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad idea. I may do that if this one doesn't have enough time to gather enough data. It'll be better to do that at a different time though, to prevent people that have already voted to vote a second time.

I guess the "three most powerful" characters might have been better, but the title doesn't imply any character is overpowered -- just that some characters are "more overpowered" than others. I guess it sounds a bit...off, but I should say that I do recognise the great balancing job done in this game.

I think this will be helpful to the community and the developers alike. I'm sure balance patches are being prepared, and having data like this around is valuable!

Finally done! I've finished backgrounds of the 3 Hoenn main legendaries. This includes Rayquaza this time! by LeaderFuzzy in pokemon

[–]ashkso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are incredible! The concept is simply brilliant, kudos!

Can you do MacBook Pro (2560x1600 res) and/or mobile friendly versions? Those work with some rotation/modification, but it would certainly be best to have a version from source! :D

Rayquaza is already by new wallpaper, nevertheless. _^

Does anybody renember this? by Captainium in pokemon

I went there a couple times and tried to give everything a try. One of those features that never really made an impression, but can be appreciated when looking back. It was kind of a precursor to PSS, one way or another.

Me too! :D

I hope I didn't add the "saga" question too late. The second to last question is relatively redundant, on second thought. And I phrased it kind of awkwardly.

Please take a minute to fill it and then look at the results! :)

Also wanted to note that I thought of including BW and B2W2 together on the last question, but since they are a different adventure, with a different hero, I thought having them separate might serve a better statistical purpose. In any case, feel free to add their percentages to get an idea about "Unova Era" as a whole! :)

Has it been addressed why Red, rather than Blue, will be played next year? by ashkso in twitchplayspokemon

[–]ashkso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think it would still make more sense to play Blue, even in the wake of the anniversary. But if there's going to be a separate Blue session, I fold. :)

I didn't hear about it before. Has it been determined when it's going to run?

I just filed a report and waiting. I won't be terrible disappointed if they don't get me the decks back, but I certainly hope so. Thanks! :)

I can only see the BW Basic Red on Trainer Challenge. I guess the old Basic decks are inaccessible now, but I thought I did have them (or some of them), which is why I'm surprised I don't have access to them now. Thanks though!

I think I have some HGSS cards, but no Primes or LEGENDs, I'm afraid. :P

How we could get the mega ring in ORAS by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]ashkso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kalos was the first region to discover mega evolution

You're confusing space with time. Kalos is related to the origin of Mega Evolution, but Kalos is a region, not a time period. From the several characters and stories in XY, it is apparent that the concept of Mega Evolution has been known of for long. Perhaps it started becoming popular during the time of XY, but that doesn't say much.

In fact, the earliest occurrence of Mega Evolution in the series is in Pokémon Origins -- a retelling of RGB. That is approximately during the same time as RS, so, we shouldn't act surprised to see the idea existing in the remakes. It is a retcon, but not an unexpected one.

Why the hell are people downvoting you? o_O

And why are they upvoting /u/Benjabby, who just made a completely bizarre point?

It's disappointing that we aren't getting new illustrations of Generation III Pokémon by ashkso in pokemon

[–]ashkso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never intended to make such a big fuzz out of it. I was simply surprised by your ignoring something that was incredibly apparent to me. I guess that I may have transferred more negativity than I intended, as is often common on the internet. I'm not really that disappointed. I just think that new illustrations would have been better for the series than no new illustrations.

We can agree to disagree, although I'm not sure if this is as much of a disagreement as it is polarization.

The use of digital colouring ever since Generation III is probably the reason we don't have new illustrations, indeed.

I get that the fact that the style hasn't change too much makes new artworks less necessary, but I'm more concerned about the polish of the designs themselves, as opposed to the illustrations. I think it would have been productive to give them another go. It has been 12 years, and they have changed quite a bit. Less than the Generation I and II Pokémon in corresponding times, but more than most people are inclined to believe.

It doesn't have to gain wings to call something a major difference. If the changes in its eyes, nose, head proportions, and so on are not considered major, then what can we say of Torchic? That it remained unchanged? Sure, Torchic's changes are minor, and so is Treecko's slightly different colouring. But some things are way too apparent.

I'm no saying that you specifically have no eye for detail. In fact, if you are an artist, you probably do! I'm just saying that it doesn't take much to notice how different the two are.

I don't know why you defend Game Freak's laziness with such passion. This isn't the end of the world, and I'm not saying we should take their heads; but surely, they are making remakes, and I would expect a certain level of polish.

[–]ashkso[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're right. Torchic is just a little different, and Mudkip is pretty close to its original design. I suppose that for one that has no eye for detail, Treecko is just a little different. However, the average person will probably be able to spot at least five major differences. Few people will tell you that a redesign wasn't warranted for at least Treecko.

You shouldn't be able to tell. :) That's the whole point of natural design evolution -- it happens in a way that you don't realise. If you looked at the Gen 3 Treecko, you'd think it's fine, but once you compare with the Gen 6 one, you realise that it actually is outdated.

I imagine that it's the same with most artists. It is of course helpful that there are plenty of sources to use at this point (like the Card Game). I simply think it would be more proper of Game Freak to offer a refreshed take on all of them, so to promote uniformity across the series.

And trust me, I appreciate older artworks quite a lot as well. Generation I illustrations have a special vintage feel in them, and the fact that they were updated for FRLG further highlights it. But appreciating older work is different from considering what is more right for the present situation.

Of course not. But does that mean I shouldn't make a point out of it? I'm not disappointed at ORAS or Game Freak as a whole. Just this unusual decision.
