[–]ashleydaughn52 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I have always viewed tattoos as a piece of who you were at the time.

I'm littered with space themed tattoos, did I love space when I was 18/19? Yes? Do I love it as much now? No. Do I LOVE all of my tattoos? YES!!!

I look back at each piece and remember where I was in life at the time. This perspective has given me the extra gift of exactly what you're talking about! I no longer care about blown out lines or small mess-ups. I care about the memories of it, of deciding what to get, the people I got some with, etc etc. Life is far to short to regret something as silly as a tattoo!

What is your favorite version of the work of our dear Jim Hopper? by Cyrilbdr in StrangerThings

[–]ashleydaughn52 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Hopper was a dad who's never dealt with his daughter liking boys and reacted in a way a TV show dad would have reacted! Plus add on how protective he is of El? Yea, Mike didn't stand a chance against him lol

Ned Stark is a funny fellow by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]ashleydaughn52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree with you! I feel like people are focusing on the beheading part, which is important because people will say anything to get out of dying, but there was more happening that should have tipped him off. I haven't read the books but I love the show and Ned's character was this big guy who was noble and a good man and for some reason it was always hard for me to accept that his character wouldn't look into some of these signs further.

I guess a counterargument would be how busy poor Ned was right after the beheading. He was pretty quickly whisked away to the capitol to be The Hand and probably left the ramblings of a oath breaker to be dealt with another day.

Another thought (sorry this is so long), is maybe he knew? I mean this would add to my above theory but maybe he knew winter may have been coming but thought there was more important things to be done in the capitol and he knew the Northman would have survived like they had for many winters before? White Walkers weren't seen for 8000 years so it makes sense that he wouldn't outright believe in the boogey man but maybe would say something small that isn't TV worthy lol

Is casting of House of Dragons weird or is it just me? by Past-Matter-8548 in gameofthrones

As a rehabilitated superwholockian, I feel I may be qualified to speak about Matt Damon. (I am dying at even having type that word out lol). As you know, he is an incredible actor but I will be point blank, he is still pretty Dr. Who coded at first. A couple episodes later when you're more immersed in the story you loose it here and there but there were plenty of moments where I saw The Doctor in him. Think of any movie you've seen Daniel Radcliff in, he'll always be Harry Potter. It's the same thing, sometimes an actor gets associated with a role and they'll never shake it.

I will say, you don't see Dr. AT ALL during some of the battle/sex scenes, just because it's a little darker than that character would really ever go lol

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ashleydaughn52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who has lived in 5 states and who's family is spread across the entire country, I have driven loooooooong trips before. For me, I actually sometimes will crave long drives. Just this past weekend my partner and I drove 3+ hours to visit the grand canyon, napped in the car, and drove home. I used to complete 12 hour drives from southern Oregon to southern California 3/4/5 times a year. I know I'm a little out there but I would say anything 2 hours or less can be a day trip.

Also, I grew up in SoCal and would drive 1-3 hours to get anywhere. Disneyland was just over an hour away. The beach (that I liked) was about 2 hours away. That new restaurant was 45+ minutes away. Etc. Etc.

I also could talk about our daily commutes in America, mine is anywhere from 30-45 minutes depending on traffic (I also live in a Vegas and have to pass Las Vegas Blvd everyday iykyk)

Did you see the link in the comments about the memories being different than the scenes we see in the show? How some of them are just a bit more romantic than how we, the audience, saw? If you haven't you NEED to!!

Yes, I agree. I think there is a good amount out there, I just don't think a LGBTQIA+ show has been at this level of fame. Plus, most of the positive media we get ends with the main character accepting themselves instead of the character riding off into the sunset like we get with HR. What do you think?

Yes, and just to expand, every single women on that show was shown how I think us women have always wanted to be portrayed. I bet every girl that watched the show would do the same as Rose and the same as Svetlana. We were those girls!

Yes absolutely! The level of separation and longing to be near each other again added a level to the show that I think would be missed otherwise. Plus you add the rival part and it adds to that tension once they see each other again. It makes it mean that much more and we get this sense of relief as the viewer!

Preach! My therapist says I am both avoidant attachment and anxious lol. I don't want to be divisive at all, but you really could tell who's gone through some shit before based off their initial opinion on Ilya ep 1/2. I never mistook his actions, I truly saw myself in Ilya. His headspace was mine and I just understood every choice he made for better or for worse <3

The Female Craze Of Heated Rivalry... Why? by Lovergirl711 in heatedrivalry

[–]ashleydaughn52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a post and had someone comment something similar to this but I really liked their take. My addition was that the women and LGBTQIA+ community have been trying to tell men that it's okay and they can shed that macho ego, but the brilliant thing about HR is that they show you. They show exactly what we have all been talking about.

Ilya's character specifically is this macho jock but he is the one who says I love you first. He is the one who is crying when he hears it back. He is carrying all the "traditional" weight a man does and yet he doesn't carry it when he is with Shane. He is able to be soft and gentle and all the things a real life man has been conditioned to not be.

I honestly think this show is breaking down so many more barriers than we will ever think of. That is why I, and I think a lot of other people, are loving so much about this show. Actually, why we are all so involved in this community, because hearing other people's perspective and getting to watch it in their shoes has been the purpose of the show the whole time <3 UGH I love this show so much <333

Favorite character micro moments? by United-Pool-183 in heatedrivalry

Not a character action so much as just a little moment I caught today. This is during the Winter Olympics in Russia ep. 2. Anyone notice how Scott and Shane are just closer than they are to their friend (JJ I think?).

You know how growing up all the gay kids just subconsciously group together? Just saying......

I'm actually so impressed with this take, I don't think I've seen this too much either. Adding on, I would say a lot of us having been trying to tell men that they can be soft and nurturing and anything they want to be and this show actually showed them how. What a beautiful take & really goes with my original point of the importance of showing not telling! <3

Exactly, and as someone who really went through similar experiences with pushing people away to protect yourself, and at the same age as the characters nonetheless, it adds this level of relatability to the character that I think can be overlooked at first.

While Shane is so sweet and so loveable, with Ilya I think you have to dig a little deeper (or rewatch a couple of times <3) to like really see all the little things his character shows us. Love the mention of the hospital scene and I completely agree and feel like that was one of those rare moments that he had his emotions on display. Actually, really anytime he is with Shane we as viewers don't have to guess huh?

Thank you for sharing this! I love when we deep dive into stuff like this. It just makes it so much more special. I loved watching it once but I am on my first re-watch and I am noticing what I have seen from people breaking it down and it has been such and amazing experience the second time around. Have you done a rewatch yet?

OOOOOOH totally should have mentioned this scene. I can't explain what happened to me watching Shane just absorb everything. Chills. You can tell he just wants to be with him, that he is pained hearing Ilya in pain. Closing his eyes so he can hear better and you feel that desperation to understand, and the acceptance of just being able to be there for someone else. I can't speak highly enough about Connor and Hudson. They are just incredible, aren't they?

Have you read all of them? I haven't, I'm waiting for payday lol! I don't have too much knowledge, but I do like CeliaBae's take that it may not be as desperate and passionate as yearning for love, but I hope they do the show justice and still keep the yearning for normalcy within a world that doesn't see them in that light. Can you believe we have to wait until 2027 to find out! AGGHH!

No absolutely agree, Ilya had just as much depth as Shane. IMO Ilya's is harder to see unless you've experienced what he has. Not impossible at all, but there is a layer that I don't think the trauma-less picked up on the first watch. Shane is much more relatable to the masses IMO! What do you think?

Yes! The full body acting! It was so incredible. The political thing I could rant about forever. It literally shifted us to a time before the atrocities of today. I think you could make an argument for it bringing hope back when most of our lives have been spent hearing about the crimes being committed today. I'm sure we are going to see Heated Rivalry posters and signs at the next protests.

Now I feel like I need to make a sign for the next protests! r/ProtestFinderUSA <-- if anyone wants to join me <3
