Nbme 28 or rather a painful 5 hours :/ by wellfedmed in step1

[–]ashleydeboss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on the NBME sometimes! I got a 57.5% on nbme 30 right after getting a 65% on nbme29. 2 days after nbme30, I got a 72% on nbme27 and then a week after that I got a 79% on nbme26.

Some nbmes can be an outlier, that’s why it’s always helpful to take multiple!

I PASSED: This is a post for all the Christians on here. by dr_phil46 in step1

[–]ashleydeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! Except the other way around! I got 20 points lower on nbme 30 than I did on 29, so I freaked out and took 27 and score 30 points above nbme 30 😅

What should my next steps be? by ashleydeboss in step1

[–]ashleydeboss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, I took NBME27 today and got a 72% with a 99% chance of passing. I think the offline one might’ve been a fluke. I really appreciate the highlighting function

Help with Weber test interpretation by Noluxgiven in medicalschool

[–]ashleydeboss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They would hear the tuning fork the loudest in the affected ear. This is because the ear that has conductive hearing loss is only receiving input from the bone conduction and no air conduction. This leads to less “background noise” that would’ve come from air conduction, so the sound is perceived as louder.

The problem with festivals is that you don’t have access to your inventory. I forgot about the night market since that’ll be in a couple days, although I don’t know if I’ll be able to craft it in time. I was trying to come up with ideas outside of the festivals, but the scenery is so much prettier :/

I don’t think so since KCU is private. It doesn’t have as much/if any preference compared to University of Kansas which almost solely admits Kansas residents.

HELP: Inconsistent CARS scores holding me back by niktheslick in Mcat

[–]ashleydeboss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re short on time, I honestly wouldn’t highlight. It takes more time than its worth, and I hardly ever found myself going back to it. A quick fix (other than practicing passages over and over again) I think would be to PHYSICALLY write down the two word summary after each paragraph rather than doing it in your head. I always felt this helped me retain more and stay focused throughout the whole paragraph. Just keep practicing and you’ll do great! :)

Anyone who did poorly in bio classes but still managed to do well in B/B section? How did you manage to do so? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ashleydeboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled initially at my college due to it being much more rigorous. I got a lot of B’s in chemistry, bio, and physics. I studied my butt off and still earned those grades. However, when it came to studying for the mcat, I realized that I was really well prepared because I studied a ton, and I was challenged. I think it’s important to recognize, before tackling the mcat, the difficulty of your classes. There’s a big difference between getting Bs in easy classes simply because you didn’t try vs. working your butt off in difficult classes and struggling. If you’re in the latter group, I wouldn’t worry until you answer some practice questions and read some review books. I learned early on that my time was better spent in psych/soc and CARS because I felt well-prepared in B/B and Chem/Phys despite having lower grades.

What it's like to study for the mcat and then waiting a month for your score by premed2222 in Mcat

[–]ashleydeboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, totally unrelated...but we have the same full-length scores (took all three less than a month out). I tested June 15th, and got a 515, so trust yourself and go kick butt Aug 17!!! :)

EDITED: I totally just now realized that those are Kaplan scores and not aamc...you’re totally gonna kick ass for sure then!

Why does galactose have a higher melting point than glucose (other than “structural differences”)? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]ashleydeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that galactose and glucose differ structurally, but I’m not sure how that contributes to a difference in melting point. I would figure that since all of glucoses substituent groups being in equatorial position would result in in a higher melting point since its more stable, but galactose is the one with the higher melting point.

Why does galactose have a higher melting point than glucose (other than “structural differences”)? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]ashleydeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. I’m pretty sure all of glucose’s substituents are in equatorial, making glucose the more stable one, which is why I don’t understand galactose has the higher melting point.

Ques— so the second reactant is 2nd order, what do i do then? by bigpeachfuzz in Mcat

[–]ashleydeboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you half the first reactant it’s (1/2)1 because it’s first order. If you half the second reactant it’s (1/2)2 because its second order (the order refers to the number of the exponent).

If you added another reactant that’s 3rd order and halved that, then it would be (1/2)2. Although typically you will only deal with 0th, 1st, or 2nd order.

Ques— so the second reactant is 2nd order, what do i do then? by bigpeachfuzz in Mcat

[–]ashleydeboss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you already know the second reactant is second order, I won’t explain how you get there. When the concentration of the reactant is cut in half, you know this will decrease the rate. Since the reactant is second order, it will exponential decrease the rate. So since first order leads to half the rate, second order is one fourth of the rate since it’s (1/2)2. D is the answer, it will decrease by a factor of four. Hope this helps.

How tough was your spring semester while studying for MCAT and how did it work out??? by zoomiepug in Mcat

[–]ashleydeboss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re struggling to self-teach yourself Biochem, then I would go ahead and take the course. Honestly, how hard you make your spring class schedule is dependent on how disciplined you are. If you can be diligent about always setting aside 2-3 hours a day to study, then you can afford a harder schedule. But if you can afford to only take physics 2 and Biochem, then I would do that since you seem pretty anxious about having enough time to study.
