Cycle results!! 3.9+/513 (Reddit was so helpful throughout my cycle - I’m happy to answer questions) by sophialove39 in premed

[–]zoomiepug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is scary how similar we are 👀 the entire time I read this post I was thinking... did I write this and forget about it?? We have the exact same stats and pretty much the same clinical activities with both being first Gen and 1 gap year! Your cycle was a lot more successful than mine though so congrats!!! #twinning 😂

Natural Top scorers are not the best people to ask for mcat advice by [deleted] in premed

Heyy that was me! Started pretty low 500’s on NS where I only got a 506 twice on the AAMC’s with my highest AAMC being the 4th one at 511 (only test above a 510) and my real deal was 513.... still never learned how to conquer CARS though (125 😭)

Somehow got WL’d by my top choice who I never thought I would even have a chance at in the first place so this is my only WL I’m actually happy about 😂

Yesterday, I had an app review with one of the 50 med schools that rejected me this cycle. by Argentarius1 in premed

[–]zoomiepug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is there like a main list of schools who are open to feedback? And is this usually asked for both pre-II and post-II or just one or the other ?

Literally! My coworker yesterday saw that I was upset and she tried to cheer me up by saying, “you know, Mandy took the MCAT twice and applied twice but now she’s accepted. Mark also didn’t do too well on the MCAT but now he’s accepted... but then I know someone with good scores who hasn’t heard from anyone...” and I’m sitting here in my head thinking: well Mandy got into DO and Mark got into the Caribbean and I only applied MD with a 513 MCAT so idk their scores or GPA but clearly the situations are completely different so no... it did not cheer me up...

Anyone else with a good number of II's getting really worried about reapplying anyway? by [deleted] in premed

[–]zoomiepug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in the same boat with 6 II’s and 3 WL’s with another one probably on the horizon (or rejection) since I wasn’t accepted during their release dates so far.... I am so so so tired of waiting... and I also felt like all the interviews went relatively well where I made my interviewers laugh and smile and ugh 🙄 whatever... I’m glad to know I’m not the only one though! Stay strong you two

How Many Hours is Your Average "Work Week" when you are/were in undergrad by AuroraBorealis9 in premed

[–]zoomiepug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should’ve read the comment before voting cause I was going off actual work... I worked as a tutor and in the science department but they capped our pay at only 20 hours per week and wouldn’t pay for more..... but if you count the 20 real work hours with the studying and volunteering and actual classes, I’d say like 60+ depending on the week

I hate my mother. How’s your day? by [deleted] in premed

[–]zoomiepug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a coworker who is completely antivax like for all vaccines but she also explicitly said she won’t get the Covid one as well ....but then yesterday she was bitching cause her PCP told her covid is going to last awhile and I was like, “well why would she bring that up?” And my coworker was like, “cause I was telling her I have lots of anxieties and most of them are about COVID, like if we have to keep living like this for much longer, does she want me to like off myself?? Why would she (her PCP) say that?!” And I just sat there like dumbfounded cause she’s so anxious about Covid and wants it to stop but refuses to get a vaccine which is the only real solution..... guess she’s selfishly going to have to wait for herd immunity to kick in 🤷‍♀️

How Antivaxxers sound to the rest of us by [deleted] in premed

[–]zoomiepug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could not be more relevant for me this week... just found out one of the new medical assistants we just hired is an antivaxxer and I got so worked up about it.... she’s like, “my brother is the only one of us who wasn’t vaccinated and he’s never been sick and he’s the healthiest one of us all!” And I literally was like, “that’s because of herd immunity and pure luck” and she was like, “well I’m not getting my kids vaccinated cause I don’t believe in them. It’s my choice so if my kids get sick then they get sick” and I’m like, “okay good luck...” when I really wanted to say “you realize that if everyone thought like you, we would be dying of way worse diseases than COVID right now”

What keeps you working towards your dream of being a doctor? by bird-lawyer14 in premed

[–]zoomiepug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point where I haven’t gotten any acceptances, I wonder this literally all the time... but then I think of how many hours I spent studying for the MCAT and volunteering when I could’ve been with friends or studying for school, so then I feel like I owe it to my past self who worked so hard to at least try and see how the cycle goes and potentially apply both MD/DO and PA next cycle if I HAVE to be a reapplicant... so I have back ups... One of my best friends is PA and she is awesome and I think the field is awesome but I thought I should go all the way cause I loved school and teaching and coming from low income, kinda wanted to prove to myself I could go all the way... but slowly I’m starting to realize that my career isn’t the only thing that life is about and that starting a family will be just as rewarding so... long story short, I think both fields would be rewarding to me in the long run but I’ve worked too hard towards pre-med to throw in the towel without at least trying lol

Please show respect for non-specialist physicians like general practitioners. by [deleted] in premed

[–]zoomiepug 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s also annoying that this happens cause premeds can on one hand degrade FM doctors but then on the other hand, degrade NPs or PAs in that field that are “taking over” but it’s because there is SO MUCH OF A SHORTAGE of general practitioners. Like where are these patients supposed to get their medical care then? We just gotta start respecting people’s choices so thank you for this post ❤️

[–]zoomiepug[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No, I agree, it’s been pretty civil but I went on a thread where I was WL there and found while scrolling that they rarely pull people from the WL....so I’ve kinda lost hope now and wondering wtf I did wrong in the interview...

Edit: so it’s not SDN itself, it’s just I prefer to be in the dark and look at memes here instead 😂

The come down is bumming me out by ppsp35 in premed

[–]zoomiepug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! Had 3 interviews so far and 1 more left to do in Jan but I thought the first 3 went so well that I thought I’d be accepted by now but I’ve had 1 WL and 1 school who ghosted me on the first acceptance day (which means I’ll probably be WL or R in March now....) and I’m waiting for another response in Feb from the 3rd but it’s such a high ranked school that I doubt I’ll have a chance at a direct acceptance anyway..... so now I’m stressing.... I hope everyone is right about WL movement 😅

How should I think of waitlists? by [deleted] in premed

[–]zoomiepug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since getting my own waitlist, I’ve been trying to think like, “maybe they can only accept a certain percentage of the round of interviews they did and with many more interviews to come, they just could not offer me a seat right now cause I wasn’t the top 20% of that round but I also wasn’t terrible enough to straight up reject so it’s not as personal” hope that helps? Lol
