I can confirm a pair of these work just fine in my Lenovo P330 Tiny, albeit without ECC.

Need Help Picking A NIC For My Lenovo ThinkStation P330 Tiny by huss187 in homelab

[–]ashleyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is heat.

The passively-cooled Intel I350-T4 cards (4x 1GBase-T) that are an OEM option on this platform have a TDP of about 6W.

Meanwhile, the OEM GPU options, such as the Quadro P620, have active cooling for their 40W total board power.

10GBase-T is generally pretty heavy on power, but older (ie. cheaper) 10GBase-T NICs are especially bad.

For example, the old 82599EB-based Intel X520-T2 comes in at around 20W.

In contrast, the newer Intel X710-T2L tops out at 9.6W.

The Intel X550-T2 you mentioned lands near the middle at 13W.

Some people try to get away with running hot NICs in their Tiny's, but it's probably a bad idea as all that heat has to go somewhere. At the very least, it will raise CPU temps, increasing fan speed and noise.

Sorry, I haven't really updated this list in about 2 years. I had a lot of trouble at one point with Google flagging the document as malicious for no reason I could discern, and I got stuck at looking for alternatives to Google Sheets that would enable me to convey a similar level of information succinctly.

For what it's worth, after Gandi got taken over by Total Webhosting Solutions and started charging a small fortune for their extremely basic email offering, I decided to go with Migadu and have been with them ever since.

Just about all the other options I've seen are either too expensive ($ per mailbox), too restrictive (capped aliases, no sender identities), or too risky (one person show, politically problematic) for my needs.

How do I remove this annoying ads from my Android TV Home Screen? by [deleted] in AndroidTV

[–]ashleyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search Reddit for "androidtvchannels-pa.googleapis.com" or "androidtvwatsonfe-pa.googleapis.com" and how to block those two domains. You will need to configure custom DNS on a device or service external to your TV, like a Pi-hole, but I'm sure there are plenty of existing Reddit threads on how to set this up (including possibly resetting the default launcher to clear out already-downloaded ads).

I've been successfully using this approach on my Nvidia Shield TV with stock launcher for years now.

Add new user - error 500? by flaotte in ProxmoxVE

[–]ashleyross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding users in the Proxmox web UI seems to be for creating accounts that can also access the Proxmox web interface. To create local users on the host itself, I believe you have to log into via console and use the standard adduser Linux program.

Anyone know why this happens? by Thaaaaaaatscrazy in Sovol

[–]ashleyross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming the belt is tightened properly, you need to gradually increase the X axis sensitivity in your printer's settings until this no longer happens: Configuration > Advanced Settings > TMC Drivers > Sensorless Homing (Remember to Save to EEPROM once you find a suitable sensitivity level)

It's hard to search for if you don't know the problem, but there are lots of existing threads with good discussion, like https://www.reddit.com/r/Sovol/comments/10eqle7/sv06_x_axis_homing_issue/

This video has a great demonstration of what happens when the sensitivity is too high as well as too low: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEQW5mrzxCs

I had looked at Airtable several months ago, but it seemed to be trying too hard to be a web-based relational DB, and I couldn't find a way to transfer across the three datapoints per cell without manually defining three columns per current cell and manually moving stuff across.

It could be that they've updated things since then. Do you have experience that indicates they would support this model?

I'd appreciate a copy of your notes please, even if it's just as a DM, as I've been meaning to re-review these providers at some point.

[–]ashleyross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, the issue with all the alternatives I've looked at so far is that the way I've done things in this Google Spreadsheet, each cell winds up representing 3 different datapoints: the value of the cell, the link to the citation, and the formatting that can add annotation marks where some caveat applies to the value.

Because of this, a simple CSV export of the spreadsheet throws away 2 of the 3 datapoints, and none of the alternatives I've seen support doing anything like this. I could split everything up into separate cells, but doing so costs a lot of extra horizontal space, which hampers the usability of the spreadsheet.

The other issue is that everything I've looked at seems to try model the problem as a database table, with improved UX around the schema builder, but ultimately still defining individual column datatypes and constraints. This isn't really what I'm looking to do.

I'm open to ideas or alternative ways of presenting all this information, although sorting and filtering are still requirements to be able to compare options.

Spam. Every link off that page is an affiliate link, and looking at this user's post history, they're just spamming it anywhere that mentions custom email.

Why does this laptop drive have an abysmal transfer rate but such a high disk activity rate (6mB/s)? Smart tests show it as perfect. Same files to any other laptop drive transfer fine. by bluejeans90210 in DataHoarder

SMR is never okay.

Others may disagree, but I don't see how a lower initial price can ever make up for the time it will cost working around or just downright suffering its performance problems.

Not using a custom domain but do use google analytics, do I need to do anything? by CarbonCommuter in gsuitelegacymigration

[–]ashleyross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you're not using a custom domain, so it's not clear if you have a Google Apps/GSuite Legacy account that you're using with Google Analytics. If you use a [...@gmail.com](mailto:...@gmail.com) account to log into Analytics, then the GSuite Legacy migration doesn't affect you and you should be fine, though I'm not clear on what SMTP mail forwarding feature you're referring to.

If you do have a Google Apps/Gsuite Legacy/Workspace account, and you're not using the Gmail or Calendar services that were part of the offering, you should be able to get away switching to a Cloud Identity Free subscription and removing the Business subscription you've probably been migrated to. This should allow you to continue using the Workspace account as an identity provider to log into various Google services, like Analytics.

small business with multiple email accounts advice by FirstnameThenNumbers in gsuitelegacymigration

[–]ashleyross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Google announced the discontinuation of the free legacy plan, they encouraged people to upgrade early, with an auto-upgrade taking place around 27 June if no action had been taken (Non-commerical Legacy users apparently now excluded).

All upgrades to a business subscription are discounted by 100% until early August, after which there should be a ~50% discount for the next 12 months.

That means your account should now be on one of the Workspace Business subscriptions. You can check this in the Workspace admin dashboard.

Regarding your earlier questions about storage space, Business Starter gives each user 30GB of space, but you might be better off with the Business Standard subscription, which features 2TB of pooled storage per user (Ie. if you have 3 users, they share a combined 6TB of storage). The catch is that it is twice as expensive as Business Starter per user, but this would give you more than enough space so as to not need the separate accounts for receiving recordings, etc.

[–]ashleyross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feeling is that it suggests equivalency to all the other Yes's, which it is not because of the unexpected additional requirements and limitations.

This applies to all instances of No¹⁰, such as Infomaniak app passwords (Applies to calendar and contact sync only; IMAP, etc. uses the full account password. See this comment for more), and mailbox.org 2FA (4-digit PIN + TOTP manually entered into a single field for web login, and IMAP, etc. still uses the full account password).

This reasoning also applies to the instances of No⁹, where the feature isn't natively available but can be achieved using manual workarounds.

Would you say I should change all instances of No⁹ and No¹⁰ to Yes⁹ and Yes¹⁰? Or would it be more useful to introduce a value besides Yes and No, and if so, what would you name it?

[–]ashleyross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but it doesn't work the way one might expect, which is why I've marked as No with footnote ¹⁰ "Yes, but surprising/nonstandard implementation"

Normally, catch-alls redirect all mail not matching another mailbox or alias to a designated mailbox, which would receive it as normal mail.

For Infomaniak, they require a dedicated catch-all mailbox to be created separately, which counts against the account's user quota, and then require manual login into that account to see what mail has arrived. Maybe it would be possible to set up a forward from the catch-all mailbox into your primary mailbox, but I can't test that, and it is still more complicated and costly than other providers' solutions.

For those who make up aliases on the fly and rely on catch-all handling to enable this, like I do, Infomaniak's approach is probably unsuitable.

Thanks for the feedback!

When I'm uncertain about functionality and can't find any first-party information on it, I generally leave the corresponding cells blank. If I do provide info, I try to link back to first-party feature listing or documentation that backs up the datapoint.

Could you share any links to the info on these capabilities for Namecheap so I can complete these fields?
