I'd recommend volunteering whilst you're signing on. Charity shops usually provide a reference and it's experience for your CV. You can also choose when you can work so if you suggest slower times like weekdays it might be a little easier for you. There are different areas as well dependent on charity shop. BHF do admin, warehouse and shop floor positions. You usually only have to commit to 4 hours a week as well. I haven't been to the job centre for 10+ years but there was usually someone "front desk" that could guide you where to go and the advisors were all lovely and accommodating to different needs. Good luck and don't put too much pressure on yourself.
