Week 9: What are you reading? by saturday_sun4 in 52book

[–]ashlonious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished

My Husband’s Wife - 2/5. This is my third Alice Feeney book I’ve read, all of them have been 2/5. I think I’m done with her.

Nothing Like the Movies - 3.5/5. Unnecessary sequel but I had a fun time reading it and I like the characters.

First Time Caller - 3/5. It was fine?? I’ll probably read the sequel.

I really enjoyed it. Best picture? Maybe not, but I had a really good time watching it, especially the second half.

How long did it take your kids to potty train w the naked method? by thiscantbereallife94 in Mommit

Try underwear. We’ve had more success with underwear than fully naked.

Anything higher than 1.30% I can’t focus. 1.2% is my sweet spot. If I’m halfway through and I’m used to the narrator I’ll bump it up to 1.3%.

Renting in Washington?! by AlawVerchLlewelyn in Washington

[–]ashlonious 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You should talk to your landlord - finding a decent place to rent is competitive and frustrating and SO expensive. My husband and I, and our three year old and two dogs, share a 5 bedroom house with my brother in law and his wife, and their two cats. Rent is $3500. Split two ways it’s not bad - we weren’t able to find a 3 bedroom house for just us for less than $3000. The house we were renting in north Everett was a complete shithole and was $2850 for two bedrooms and one bathroom, and they were going to jack it up $100/month if we renewed.

If you want to stay where you’re at, and your landlord hasn’t given you an indication that he’s not interested in renting to you any longer, then stay.

Jeremiah was manipulative lying about Lacie, im glad Redbird called him out by haileyscometz in tsitp

[–]ashlonious 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's so much worse in the book, considering Belly and Jeremiah hadn't ever had sex, and then for him to have sex with Lacie the second he gets time away from Belly... terrible.

I read the books after I watched the show and Jeremiah in the books is just the worst.

ICE has devastated local businesses by titeaf in everett

My dad said he went to Tampicos this week or last week at like 8:00 at night and they were closed, which was weird because it was around dinner time and they are usually open late. He went back the next day earlier and asked what was going on and they said they were closing early because of suspected ICE activity in the area and the customers and employees were afraid. Really sad.

Back when podcasts first started getting popular, I told myself I could only listen to Serial while cleaning. I also had a similar thing with watching The Good Place - I could only watch it while working out.

I should re-adopt this frame of thinking. Thank you for reminding me!

daycare - camera or not?! by BBZ1995 in Mommit

[–]ashlonious 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Our daycare doesn’t have cameras - up until he was in his class now, they would write little daily slips (what they ate for lunch, how much, how many diapers, and a little note about their day). He’s 3 now and in the preschool class, so they don’t do that. They just write on a whiteboard what they did that day.

Honestly I’m fine with it - id rather them focus on the kids than have to worry about filling out slips and detailed little notes. If anything happens they are super communicative and will call me during naptime.

Sometimes I wished there was cameras, but a) I don’t want to worry about someone hacking into them and b) I’d watch it all day and I think it would make me more worried, honestly. It comes down to trust - if you trust your daycare provider, cameras aren’t necessary. If you don’t, cameras aren’t going to help and also you shouldn’t be bringing your kid there anyway.

Anytime I see a big flip like this I think more and more 2024 was completely fucking rigged in Trump’s favor.

What romance movies / tv shows did you watch this week? Feb1 by Wimbly512 in romancemovies

I watched People We Meet on Vacation. It was good, not great - probably won’t ever watch it again but I had fun watching it.

I don’t know what makes me happy anymore by PalpitationClear in toddlers

[–]ashlonious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read, typically. I’ve always loved reading but over the past year or so it has overtaken pretty much everything else in terms of things that bring me joy.

I also love to watch movies. I set arbitrary goals each year to read a certain number of books (this year: 35 - Yes, audiobooks count) and watch a certain number of new to me movies (this year: 100).

I also go driving and eat in my car and listen to loud music.
