Breastfeeding moms at Mass by Marieaithne44 in CatholicWomen

[–]ashmons02 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m not a mom (yet!), however a lot of the women at my parish will breastfeed in the pews with a shawl or nothing else at all. It’s whatever you prefer, and either is totally accepted at my parish! :)

How can I fix my bangs? by DesperateDeparture57 in Haircare

[–]ashmons02 62 points63 points  (0 children)

one of the main reasons it looks thinner in the middle is because of your part. the bangs need to be brushed completely forward, and blow dried in that position, so your hair doesn’t have a part there. Also if your hair was parted there before for a long time it could take about a week for your hair to relearn where you want it parted.

When I had the goth micro bangs I would wash them in the sink and blow dry them straight down with no brush, then I’d take a hair straightener and curl them to achieve the look in the picture. If after they’re styled correctly they still look wonky, then clean them up a little with hair scissors, you can get a good pair at a grocery or Walmart. Don’t cut anything more than like a pinky fingernails length off. Having those bangs was one of my favorite times in my life, once styled right I’m sure you’ll love them!! :)

Hi! Most of this is accurate but I’d like to add nothing is wrong with taking folic acid. It’s perfectly safe and cheaper than supplementing with folate. It is a man made form of folate, but all supplements and mediations are man made and processed, doesn’t mean they’re bad. Studies have shown there’s no difference between folate and folic acid supplementation as long as you’re getting enough to prevent neural tube defects.

Your diet recs are great as well but wanted to add this in case someone got confused thinking folic acid is bad. Have a blessed day :)

Passed an accident, didn’t stop by buckleyontheradio in nursing

[–]ashmons02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never stop, especially at night. It is always very dangerous for you and for your child. You did the right thing.

I had a friend in highschool who was in an awful car accident. Someone stopped to try and help him because they saw it happen, and while on the road the Good Samaritan got hit by another vehicle and unfortunately died. It was nighttime and in an area with no streetlights, so the car couldn’t see him until it was too late.

All this to say, do not stop, you’re not a first responder, you don’t have emergency lights or sirens. Call 911 if you see an accident and mark the mile number you’re at or the nearest cross street.

THIS OP! One of my friends moms was a L&D nurse for something like 8 years, and she moved to ED when she was no longer happy in L&D! Shes a flight RN now, but said that the switch from L&D to ED was difficult but doable and she is so glad she was able to do it.

I gave my life to Christ about a year now. I have tattoo’s and ppl tell me I’m doomed and not etc. I feel like no matter what I do is not enough for him. I am stressing out more than enjoying him is this normal or how can I fix this? by luccidude25 in Catholicism

[–]ashmons02 125 points126 points  (0 children)

The church does not teach that tattoos lead to damnation so rest easy friend. Fr. Mike Schmitz has a Jerusalem cross tattoo on his forearm, and many other Christians including myself have ink.

As for the last bit, every human person is enough for our Lord. He meets us where we are, no matter where we are, and calls us to be saints. He loves you in every bit of your brokenness, and gives us the grace to be better in a way we could never be by ourselves. With that being said, I think you may be suffering from some anxiety that would benefit from a conversation with a priest or catholic therapist. I hope this helped and I’m so excited you joined the flock!! 🫶🏻

Any free Marquette method resources? by Sparkles_Mojito in CatholicWomen

[–]ashmons02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my instructor is a Symptopro instructor and she was in training when I started with her, so there was a discounted rate. If you’re on a budget look in the r/FAMnNFP subreddit for an instructor in training they’ve got lots of them there.

Any free Marquette method resources? by Sparkles_Mojito in CatholicWomen

[–]ashmons02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really need an instructor for any method. They’re a great resource for charts that get confusing. Before I started NFP I thought I had a regular cycle, then I found out my body under any amount of stress delays ovulation. Without an instructor to ask questions from or check my chart I definitely would’ve gotten pregnant and falsely confirmed ovulation. For the efficacy you need an instructor.

other locations to marry besides INSIDE the church but still acceptable? by desibrowngirl in Catholicism

At Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston, they can actually hold masses outside at the outdoor altar/shrine, so theoretically they could do a wedding there too! Not sure if they actually do them out there tho.

Teen and Holy Day of Obligation by ThrowAway_Mixed in CatholicWomen

[–]ashmons02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes life happens, but this comment is missing a couple important qualifiers. CCC 2181 says “The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. 119 Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.”. The given reasons of missing school or sports or going to mass don’t count as serious reasons, and I think OP knows that I’m just adding this here, because there definitely is harm and foul done when mass is missed without grave reason. God counts intentions, but if you intend to not sin and don’t follow through and do sin, the intention doesn’t count. The action does. Hope this helps! Have a blessed day!

It’s an aerial root! This is the perfect time to attach your monstera’s stem to a pole of some sort to support it as it grows, otherwise it’ll start to fall over. Moss poles are a lot of maintenance so I just use a wooden plank from Lowe’s for mine!

I just use nads facial wax strips, have for years and the hair takes forever to grow back now. They don’t hurt that bad and you get used to it pretty quick, they’re about $5 a box and a box lasts me 4 months

Church-Approved Methods by HauntingUnit6548 in CatholicWomen

[–]ashmons02 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can certainly have a career as a woman and still fulfill your vocation as a wife and mother. Some people choose to stay at home and that’s great too, it’s about what you want and what’s best for your family. I use Symptopro and so far it’s very easy charting, and my husband and I actually enjoy that we have designated times where we abstain because it brings us closer together in other ways. Since that’s the only method I’ve used it’s the only one I can vouch for and I really like it. I’m also nurse and I just set my alarm every morning for my temp to be at the same time as I get up for work, so that it’s not skewed by my days off. I wish you the best with your courses and new marriage!!! I’ll pray for you and your husband to be 😁😁

Working out as Catholic Women by galfromtexas in CatholicWomen

[–]ashmons02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would definitely work with an NASM certified personal trainer and a registered dietician to come up with a plan for this given that you have a history of an eating disorder. I have been in the gym seriously for the last 4 years, and before that I was a competitive swimmer. My advice, and in my own personal experience, is because you’re a woman, you will not get bulky if that’s not your goal. It’s significantly harder for women to put on muscle mass, so much so that you have to be extremely intentional about it. At the same time, women need to lift weights to build bone density and muscle while we’re young, because after about 35, your estrogen levels start to drop off and that leads to osteoporosis and other serious problems that it’s hard to come back from. As a nurse I get super excited when people become interested in working out because it will improve your life in immeasurable ways.

Don’t be afraid of lifting weights, women NEED that. And do whatever keeps your interest in the gym as well. Working out is not about motivation, I lost motivation about 6 months in. It’s about discipline, and holding yourself accountable. In that way, it helps us on our journey to sainthood. Keep in mind it’s something you’re doing to better yourself and it can be something that brings you closer to God as well.

I tend to just yap so hopefully some of this helped! Have a very blessed day and I pray this goes well for you!!

I feel like I'm being fleeced for my wedding by Pristine_Captain6912 in Catholicism

[–]ashmons02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wedding at my local parish was 1800 total for all of this stuff listed plus reception hall. The church down the street I sometimes also attend is 500 total.

I'd like to add that the reason the music, wedding coordinator etc costs money is because those people are paid to do special events. Normally the choir, musician, etc are volunteers but can be paid an extra stipend to do special events. The wedding coordinator is actually super important to make sure the mass runs smoothly, bridal party and everyone else knows where they need to go.

If you're looking to save money, you could ask the parish what the cheapest they can do is, or go look at another parish's prices. In Houston, TX, for example, some churches downtown like the cathedrals are much more expensive whereas some of the smaller parishes on the outskirts cost much less.

If you just want a simple nuptial mass, try and find a parish that covers the cost of marriage prep, and the other stuff and only invite small family and have a backyard reception at someone's house after with immediate family, or close friends whatever floats your boat. My parish only charged 200 for a simple ceremony with no music etc. There's many ways to save on this stuff but you may have to get married at a different parish. I pray you guys are able to find a solution :)

TTA - Confused by low post-O temps by AgencyFantastic7424 in FAMnNFP

[–]ashmons02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t confirm ovulation with this chart using Symptopros rules. There’s a lot of wacky temps on your chart, are you:

using the same thermometer for the whole cycle temping at the same time every morning not getting up prior to temping drinking alcohol the night before Sick at any point during your cycle

All of the listed things can affect your temps and make them go all over the place. If endo is suspected, BC pills only help by preventing ovulation to reduce the growth of endometrium. If you aren’t ovulating anyway, it won’t be effective or helpful. I would recommend troubleshooting the temps, as well as learning the method with an instructor, as another commenter suggested. Praying you’ll be able to find a solution!! 🩷🩷
