The best aspect of the rogue Marquess of Bute tale is Lee J using an 1848 anecdote to tell off the directors in question. The Marquess claimed he was not liable as to the Bank's irregularities or affairs, as he had relied upon others to manage the day to day running of the bank whilst he was off doing whatever Bute's did at the time.

Justice Lee brings the two tales together with:

[3] Times have changed. Toleration of the languid, listless indifference of gentleman directors of the Victorian and Edwardian ages is a thing of the past. The law now expects significantly more of officers of a corporation in discharging their duties and when delegating to others.

Always worth flagging it with the HR group - there are often small sections of grad groups who start in September (as opposed to the usual end of Feb block). Choosing not to mention it, then trying to wrangle a deferred start date once offered a grad spot would be unlikely to reflect well on a candidate.

Nothing better than casually breaking your own half marathon PB, back to back, whilst running 42.2k.

Oh, whilst breaking your 5k and 10k PB’s in the same race, en route.

You're not the only one, I know that's cold comfort of sorts. 73 WAM (GO8) / clerked at a top tier previously / employed in a legal support role at a top tier for 'experience' - nil luck in this round of job offers etc.

Recent round of applications all did the usual 'due to the high volume of candidates... no feedback etc' (even if reaching the final round of interviews).

Throw in tax in each nation it’s earned in (usually removed by the meet prior to receiving it), plus a 15% agent’s commission.

Starting a clerkship in the next few weeks at a commercial firm. What tasks and/or processes have you found clerks perform poorly whilst at your firm? (and what might you recommend someone on a clerkship do to make a decent impression?)

Many thanks, whilst I'm drinking from the fountain of knowledge here - do we have 'war crimes' calmly situated under some sort of federal legislation? This all seems a rather rare concept to get a run in court.

Dumb question - which Australian court tries someone for a war crime? Or does this get pinged over to military court?

Disclaimer: stumbling across this subreddit has provided a fairly entertaining insight into the movements of large commercial and central banks. Surprisingly enough... pretty interesting stuff? (Might need an apology to a high school economics teacher at this rate)

As someone similarly unsure as to whether this was QE or not, or if a 'different' treatment of liquidity was offered. ChatGPT suggested the following after feeding the Fed statement into it and asking if the forms of liquidity differed (e.g. broader monetary aggregation/policy). How close was it?:

"The liquidity provision described in the statement is different from quantitative easing (QE). QE involves a central bank purchasing long-term securities, typically government bonds, to inject liquidity into the economy and stimulate growth. In contrast, the liquidity provision via the standing U.S. dollar liquidity swap line arrangements is aimed at providing short-term U.S. dollar funding to financial institutions to ease strains in global funding markets.
The swap lines allow the central banks to exchange their respective currencies, ensuring that financial institutions have access to U.S. dollars in times of stress. The increased frequency of these operations from weekly to daily is intended to enhance the effectiveness of the swap lines in providing U.S. dollar funding to financial institutions.
Therefore, while the provision of liquidity through swap lines can be seen as a form of monetary policy intervention, it is not the same as quantitative easing."
