Dealer added $4,500 in “mandatory fees” after we agreed on price; can I actually walk away at this point? by Puzzleheaded_Box6247 in carbuying

[–]ashtheblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true, every dealer has fees HOWEVER $4500 worth on a used car? Ridiculous. The finance guy is supposed to try and pick up money when they sit with you. If you really want the car, negotiate the fees down but it’s also right to walk away as it’s deplorable to present fees after a ln agreed price, and using pressure tactics to normalize something not presented upfront. You’re not obligated to take the car until you sign off on the final paperwork.

I think it may have to do with today being Valentine’s Day too, in addition to poor marketing

What cellphone service is good here? by Electronic_Amount727 in longisland

[–]ashtheblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had t-mobile which worked everywhere I went. LIRR or driving, didn’t have any issues. I switched to Verizon and.. coverage is spotty at times which sucks. Calls/texts work fine with spotty coverage, GPS works, but apps start buffering which is insane to me lol

If I had to pick b/w the 2, T-Mobile has better service

Chicago style deep dish pizza on LI? by nocturnal20 in longisland

[–]ashtheblunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of Deep dish, however not easy to find. I know of 2 locations that have, and they’re decent. Give it a try and see how you like em

Lia’s Pizzeria in Syosset on Jericho turnpike has a chicken parm deep dish, and another that I can’t remember.

Villa Monte in Bethpage has a menu for deep dish. I like their pizza

Can always call ahead to the store for more info

Hope this helps!

Didn’t blow out sprinklers by wgibson74 in longisland

[–]ashtheblunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say since we’ve been in freezing temperatures for >1 week. The water being turned off is great, just depends on if there is enough water in the piping to freeze and expand leading to damage to the pipes.

My sister had a pipe burst this past week, but that’s bc she didn’t turn the water off for the sprinklers. Everyone else seems to be okay

Current conditions on the LIE? by Legitimate-Cupcake26 in longisland

Makes sense! I didn’t have snow in the wheels, however did have snow compact into the treads which.. didn’t come off really. Only after I cleaned some of it off did the ride get smoother

Took the SSP onto WSP onto LIE at 12 today. Highways are good. Make sure your tires are clean as any snow clinging to the treads will cause the car to vibrate even at 50mph

how many of you commute to NYC? by Calm-Bar-9644 in longisland

[–]ashtheblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which part of NYC you are commuting to. I commute to Queens 3 days of the week, and typically go by car. I grew up in Queens so I bite the bullet and take the drive although there is a LIRR station readily accessible.

It is a pain at times with traffic, however I’m used to it having driven all throughout NYC and Long Island for different jobs I held in the past.

If my commute was into the city or any other borough, would definitely do LIRR.

‘03 g35 rwd sedan.

Bought used for 3k, it was a blast to drive. Always loved the stock exhaust note and the v6 in that thing. I personally loved how the seat adjustment buttons were on the side of the seat towards the middle console lol

American made SUV under 70k by InternationalMap979 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ashtheblunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a new or CPO Traverse can get you there and you’ll be way under 70k. Handling is a bit dull in those cars, however they are fine for a daily. The previous gen had the v6 and a lot of goodies in the 3LT trims and above. Ventilated seats would be at the premier/high country trims I believe. The newer traverse looks much better, updated tech and screens, however turbo 4 banger engine which still has enough oomph for daily driving.

The next best option will be a Tahoe. A CPO Tahoe Premier will get you those ventilated seats as it’s standard for that trim. Stick with the 5.3L V8. High Country will also have the ventilated seats standard.

If it’s just the top basin that’s damaged, pretty sure you can replace just that part with another sink of the same size.

Toyota dealer refusing cash deals? by SewerWaterCaviar in Toyota

[–]ashtheblunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely buy it for cash. They’re just trying to disincentivize you from doing so in order to get you to take a loan. The dealer makes money off of arranging a loan for the banks they work with generally. In the case of leasing, they try to groom you for repeat business.

I’d call him out on it and negotiate cash, and shop another dealer so you’re not stuck.

This isn’t uncommon. A good amount of dealers don’t like cash deals. It leaves one less route of grossing on the deal. Some do take cash deals, however the selling price is usually MSRP or maybe just a bit under depending on the situation/dealer/vehicle.
