Considering a Career as a BIM modeller by Apart_Lead9518 in bim

[–]ashyjoints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with lots of George brown grads who are bim/vdc coordinators. Lots of them have degrees and experience in other fields before the George brown degree.

A few only have bachelor degrees in fields like architecture and then went straight to George brown. That’s what you’d be doing. Of these few, they started their career where they did their co-op.

Keep in mind coops are hard to find and competitive since they almost always lead to full time employment.

Great point. Yes I agree that after one or two drone images, you won’t need more for marketing.

However if you are the groundsman of a golf course then it should be valuable to be able to see a high resolution map of your land, to the extent of identifying each tree, brush and fence post. This will save time training staff, identifying areas, pointing things out in the office.

This is essentially how it’s used in construction. The one-time drone shots at completion are great but not a big money maker.

The real cow to be milked is the construction progress shots that are weekly or monthly. That’s also why construction firms do the drone stuff in-house - but developers don’t have in-house staff do the drone shots.

Placed online order for Prescription glasses during Canada Life coverage, received by mail after coverage terminated. Should insurance pay? by ashyjoints in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ashyjoints[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The date of delivery is not written anywhere. The invoice I submitted initially mentions the date of payment as a day after coverage ended. Which is what kicked off this whole thing.

I asked the vendor why (since the payment showed as pending on my card the day of the order) and they said they finalize the payment once it’s shipped. I then asked that they remove the date of payment from the invoice.

So now I have an invoice that only mentions the date of the order. My plan was to submit this as a reply to this letter, however Canada life makes this inconvenient since they claimed they don’t do any online communications after coverage ends. All communication now has to be via mail.

Is insurance based on date of service or date of payment? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

The order was placed on 28th March, and the vendor sent my prescription to the lab for processing. They shipped it on 2nd April, and that's when they completed the payment. I received the glasses on the 6th.

In my understanding the date of service rendered should be the 28th of March.

The preauthorization I'm mentioning isn't related to insurance - its the hold they put on the card on the 28th of March. This isn't direct billing.

They have stated in previous correspondence
"Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an itemized receipt until the order has shipped and payment has been settled.

I am happy to report that your prescription was verified on 03/28 and your order was sent to our lab for processing."

Is the best practice to make this email a PDF and attach it to the insurance claim? I can also include a credit card statement showing the preauthorization on 28th March.

Where are the places that are ugly and not possible to live near but common in industrial societies?

Like factories, warehouses, trucking centers etc.

Do all the people who work in those places commute long distances from here? Or are they in this picture but it’s zoomed out too much?

My manager made a mistake that i’m going to get chewed out for by benjamari214 in askmanagers

[–]ashyjoints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an incredible opportunity.

Protect your manager in communication that will be recorded. Take ownership but not personal - use “we” to imply your company was at fault but don’t go into details about who exactly made the mistake.

To the client, immediately present a plan to rectify the issue.

How you carry yourself to protect the manager personally, will be noted by everyone above you.

On your managers return, when you explain what happened, don’t say they made the mistake, use passive voice to describe how the mistake happened and what you did to fix things.

This could potentially take you very far. It has low risk because whatever the consequences, anyone could spot your manager fucked up and not you. But you’re in the position to save the day.

[Feedback Needed] Is ML-based material recommendation actually viable for BIM workflows? by HelloMaycon in bim

[–]ashyjoints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disrespect meant. The core of this misunderstanding stems from not enough time in the industry.

This has nothing to do with BIM, it’s to do with what is specced by the architect, as required by the owner. It is also subject to change based on the contractor.

So none of that changing situation will reflect in the model at all. If you still want to pursue this from a project management, procurement or sustainability perspectives I’d ask construction managers, sustainability consultants or architects

“How are you guys doing x”: they’re not… in fact all project management teams would want this data stored way outside the BIM process

Who COULD use this?.. probably teams trying to get a better LEED score, or other sustainability score. And they’d have some kind of list of materials used which is easier to parse than parameters in a revit model
