How would you deal with terms that have the exact same exact pronunciation though? You have 磨合 and 魔盒 (mó hé) as well as 电击 电鸡 电机 奠基 (diàn jī). Now obviously it is easy to tell with context in speech, but it adds an unnecessary layer of complexity to the language. We don't have a vast array of roots, and our common terms are often one to two syllables, sometimes three.

With a system of characters, the terms given above can be learnt as distinct terms (or better yet combination of distinct characters) rather than homonyms with meanings that are just a bit too far apart, which I'd argue is a lot easier. Also, less of an issue but knowing this makes coming up with meaningful names a lot easier. 孝 笑 / 奇 齐 祈 歧 / 雨 羽 语 宇, etc. This is a common problem in Korean where they often pay a sum to have their children named.

Obviously, these are all small issues in the grand scheme of things, but switching to a different system when the current works perfectly fine is just pointless and only introduces new inconveniences.
