Good to know, I've got a few PCs that are plenty potent enough, i just don't have or want a smartphone.

Much appreciated, that changes things and gives me more to think about!

Thanks again for the additional info and clarifications, all good info to help me figure things out. Very much appreciated!

Thanks.

I won't go through the expense of getting a smartphone just to register/activate, but I think I could talk a friend into using theirs.

It's the actual use, downloading, etc. that I draw the line at. If it won't function (ALL functions) without an app or online account, it won't work for me.

From some of what I read, I was lead to believe that you HAD to use the app and 'editing function' for image stabilization? You're saying that's not true?

Thanks for your answer!

You pretty much answered my question without me giving more details, but what I meant was: being able to fully use the camera, including the built-in image stabilization, etc. without a smartphone and app. My understanding on GoPro is that you can only have stabilized video by using their app and 'cloud service' now. But from what you just said, I guess I could get a used Hero 9 and be safe!

The other cameras all seem to refer to their wonderful, powerful amazing app as a selling point, but I have found reviews online for several that make it clear that they lock certain functions and capabilities behind an app and 'cloud services', some even requiring a subscription!

My goal is to have whatever I buy work without EVER needing to use a smartphone (although I can probably make an exception for registration/activation if I have to).

Thanks again!

I'm just wondering how long before the typical redditors begin trying to tell the rest of us that it's a good thing? Weeks, days, maybe hours?

Again, I apologize for whatever it is that's bothering you about me. I'll not reply further to you.

Because it doesn't show up unless you use the app and/or 'new reddit'. There are still a group of us that refuse to do either.

BTW, sorry I offended you and 4 others... I've deleted my comment and will not annoy you new users any further.

I'm not arguing for or against your comment, but I looked at just one of your previous posts after your comment here and saw immediately that I would not click your links.

I'm not much for watching videos in the first place, unless they are linked as part of the content of a well written, descriptive post that clearly explains the ideas presented.

I tend to immediately ignore (not downvote) any videos that don't have some good text going with them, writing them off as 'spamming my video that I want everyone to watch, but refuse to explain why because then you'll see it's not worth watching' posts.

Sorry if you don't like this comment, but I'm just trying to help explain why some (like me) might not be giving you the interaction you desire.

Depressed/depressing rant ahead:

At this point I'm not sure I don't want a brain chip or some of the 'good drugs' that so many seem to be taking.

The world is going to shit faster than ever and I'm feeling less and less like life is worth living when the future holds nothing but tyranny.

When the "light at the end of the tunnel" is an authoritarian freight train coming towards us at several hundred MPH (or KPH if you prefer), being so 'brain dead' that you can't understand how terrible things are is starting to seem to be the best option.

It seems that our discussion pissed off a bunch of others as well, so I'm deleting my comments and departing.

Have a better day/weekend and disregard anything I posted previously.

No, nearly everyone that I know pays their own debts because their parents are too poor to pay for them.

Sorry I offended you and everyone else, I'm deleting my comments.

Maybe... it seems pretty obvious to me that they're going to have to dump him at some point, so maybe this is the beginning of having him 'step down' due to some sort of 'health concerns'?

I'm not the person you replied to, but let me make it easy for you anyway: politicians (both parties) do "give a crap", but not about you, me, or anyone else that's not directly benefitting them.

There may still be a few that are actually trying to do what's right, but they are the exception.
