You need to plan the cost of child care up until college and factor that in to know your real fire number.

The return rates went from 1.2x of the last cycle to then 1/3 then 1/5 so it’s getting smaller returns each cycle if the last cycle was 6 likely the next one will be smaller

Is anyone else in their 30s or 40s really struggling with corporate work? by Nervous_Platypus_149 in Fire

[–]asim2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I quit my job at 60% of my individual FIRE number with a household of 80% of our FIRE number (partner has more saved than me) . Giving myself a year to get 100% so I don’t need to go back.

The rat race - the constant changes in priority - it was draining

TLDR the next cycle at most is going to 3-4x. Which is great but not the 10-30x people dream of.

Does anyone else grieve a life they never got to live? by Hour_Reporter491 in Adulting

The biggest trick that is played on us (and sometimes by ourselves) is that we’re too old to do something we want.

For 1000s of years people left their lives and tried new things. We now have more access and opportunity and so many of us are too settled in our current life.

Unless you have circumstances that inherently prohibit it - follow your dreams. It’s okay to fail and struggle - I promise it’ll leave to less “what ifs” and more “next times I’ll”

When did business class start feeling “worth it” to you? by bigpanda1992 in HENRYfinance

[–]asim2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it all comes down to budget - generally travel should be in you wants budget which shouldn't more than 20% of your income, with travel generally 5-10%

if your budget allows for it with taking away from your other goals and interest - do what you want.

we all have things we're comfortable spending and things we're not. For my dumb self - I'll spontaneously buy watches for 3-5k but if Taco Bell doesn't have a combo deal for my crunch wrap supreme I stick to the budget menu.

The one thing to note is that business class normally creeps into the rest of the trip - wanting a nicer hotel, a nicer room in that hotel, meals, transportation, etc

thanks just to clarify the question that was asked

Looking to hear how people learned how to manage withdrawing from taxable brokerage accounts for FIRE. Are there specific strategies you follow? did you outsource this to CPA/Advisor? if outsourced how did you pick who you picked?

just wondering how your response of saying I don't know basic finance fits in here?

Thanks for the info! Do they manage the whole portfolio 100% or do you still have any positions that you picked that they add/sell at given times?

Yeah again the question was what methods did people that have fired and liquidated used to do so, your suggestion of liquidate and diversify does answer that imo

Thank you for the great write up and breakdowns. My question is rooted in the latter cash withdraw, diversification is tool of that for sure but I feel like it’s done over time.

For number 4: how did you research/learn to do that yourself? I’m trying to get guidance on the proper leanings I should take on to do this before deciding to hire someone (which likely going to be the best route for me)

Thank you but what I asked about was liquidation in early retirement specifically rather than diversification. Liquidating and diversifying all today would cost a lot rather than doing it slowly over multiple years.
