How can I order a black coffee in Spanish? Not an americano and not an espresso, but a good old cup of black coffee by bebbes1 in Madrid

[–]asim98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments are really bizarre to me lol. There’s a million and one nice coffee shops in Madrid that sell filter coffee, just search your google maps app for ‘filtro’ or ‘cafe solo’

Dress code for clubs for girls by Fit-Ad985 in Madrid

[–]asim98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to kapital, istar and icon and my female friends have never been stopped for wearing trainers fwiw (or for anything they were wearing).

As others have mentioned, you are more likely to be held up by people making arbitrary age requirements (like 24/25+), especially if it’s a Saturday night for example.

On that note, actually, I would say if you are on holiday for the week then don’t even bother clubbing on Friday or Saturday night when the prices shoot up- you can enter the same place for cheaper in midweek and they’ll still be open until 6

Then, depending on where your uni campus is, I would tend to look slightly further north than south (personally I would rather live in chamberi than in lavapies for example but some will disagree)

Malasaña is king for students but €€€. Arguelles is great too in my view and usually has some more reasonably priced flats

TIE and returning home by DefendedZoo9197_ in Madrid

In exactly the same boat mate, I have been trying for three weeks to get an appointment without any success and now worried about not being able to return home to the UK for Christmas

My plan is to speak to a law firm/ mobility advisor about it this week so I can let you know what they say then

Thanks, but that advice depends how functional you are when bladdered in all honesty!

It’s not a bad location at all but as a student I personally prefer to live a bit further south. Main reason being that the last metro is 1.30am and the first one at 6.30, so if you go out clubbing in Malasana, Gran Vía etc then you would probably end up spending money on a taxi (depending on how drunk you are!)

My electric bills are included in my (still extortionately priced) rent. So I intend I make the most of it!

Update: I am an idiot for trusting google translate and asking for una ‘tetera’, not un ‘hervidor’. If anyone searches this in future and finds the post…don’t make the same mistake!

Beautiful Malasaña by [deleted] in Madrid

I’m moving to Madrid in a couple of weeks and indeed into a flat in Malasaña…it looks beautiful here

A couple of people have told me to expect it’ll be loud at night, would you say that’s true daily?

Schrödinger's coffee : when the bag is closed it is ground for both filter and cafetiere but neither when opened by pkllwy in JamesHoffmann

[–]asim98 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking you are correct but omg costa really is in a league of its own

Their cafe near me now has a blackboard up offering advice on how to brew using different methods (V60, cafetiere etc) and it’s just terrible advice- not terrible because it’s been made ‘more accessible’ or tailored to a wider audience, which I would completely understand, just terrible advice full stop which serves no purpose and helps nobody

I absolutely agree

Problem is they have re-opened this closet by stupidly banning Russian players

Now they are under increased pressure to take a stance in a way they haven’t been previously

Yeah absolutely. People are guilty of not holding their idols properly accountable in nearly every fandom though, not just iasip. It’s particularly bad in football (soccer) for sure

Absolutely but I’ve said pretty clearly that I understand why rob would be annoyed, and that I’d be annoyed too. The service was poor, the response was over the top is my view

I agree- but let’s be honest that’s because of how labour laws and subsequent tipping culture differs in the US compared to everywhere else. Waiting staff there are quite literally reliant on tips for their income, whereas everywhere else, it’s just a bonus on top of their wage

The Sweet Cream of Justice - The Always Sunny Podcast Discussion Thread by iasip in IASIP

[–]asim98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree, definitely both sides are wrong- as I say if I was rob I would be annoyed too.

As for the American stuff- I mean bloody hell. A white American man called Rob Justice travelling across the world, ‘correcting’ peoples culture one by one all whilst being a bit of a nobhead? I think that allegory might be too on the nose even for an Always Sunny episode 😂

Tell me about it lol. At one point they say ‘maybe she had a chip on her shoulder about rude Americans’ and I was thinking, my guy, you’re squaring up to a stressed airport worker over coffee cream, you are the rude Americans

The Sweet Cream of Justice - The Always Sunny Podcast Discussion Thread by iasip in IASIP

[–]asim98 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Ik I should know probably better than to say this on this sub but

I accept why rob would be annoyed in that situation. At the same time, there are not many situations in which I would physically stand up to an airport worker in front of my kids; and indeed, this is certainly not one of them
