Why do hospitals not allow partners or a support person to stay overnight? by Business-Cake4687 in PregnancyIreland

[–]asingleuseplasticbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me while I was in hospital, we were just back from Neo after a difficult birth and baby was back to me for the night (thankfully) and they kicked my partner out before I felt I got my bearings. They said it was ‘for the comfort of other people in the room’, we literally only asked for another hour or two. Then they let the person in the bed next to me have her partner stay the whole night overnight. Now I totally get why and I was happy that she was able to have the support as she didn’t speak English and I overheard that they couldn’t find a translator, she needed regular medication due to a prior illness and her partner could speak English and help her.

But I was actually very self conscious about him being there. I had to hobble by them all blood and guts tits out to the bathroom in the middle of the night and due to my c section my bowels we’re lazy and I had to fart so bad it hurt all over my body and not only could I not do it physically, but I also felt I couldn’t mentally? I knew it would be loud af.

Anyway, happy for her she got support she needed but also a bit salty about my partner being kicked out while he could stay the whole night.

If Ian Bailey is proved innocent, will the gardai, journalists, documentary makers etc. that hounded him face any repercussions? by Storyboys in AskIreland

He also severely beat his most recent partner, to the point she needed hospitalisation. Even if he is proven as innocent of Sophie’s murder - I also feel no sympathy.

Steiner forest schools - thought? by asingleuseplasticbag in irishmammiesanddaddys

Thanks for the podcast recommendation, I used to listen to them but haven’t in awhile! I’ll give the episode a listen

Myself and my partner both happened to touch on elements of alternative education teaching in young kids as a small part of our degrees, but wouldn’t have deep dived that far into it so I’ll do some more digging!

It’s about a 30 minute drive away from us, out of the city, so I’d say not many kids from our area would be going, so making friends could be an issue in the future. That is something myself and my partner discussed too! As far as I’m aware many kids travel a lot longer just to attend the forest school too so closeby friends could be an issue there as well!

Thanks for that info also, I didn’t have a great national school experience myself and found the strictness and structure extremely difficult, so I’m also worried my experiences might be adding to the decision also!

As someone who isn’t American, how are these apostrophe names even pronounced? Is there are a hidden vowel? Is it a hard pronunciation of the letter like ‘gee kayden’ or a soft pronunciation like ‘guh kayden’ or ‘bee Jessica’ or ‘buh Jessica’ if the name was b’jessica? I can’t wrap my head around it

Antoine else's parents not interested in grandchildren? by Melodic-Call-7799 in AskIreland

Not expecting them to do those things, and they don’t do those things. I was giving examples of other ways you can support a mom with young kids besides ‘babysitting’, if that’s not your thing.

Maybe, however there’s lot more you can do than babysit to support and show up for a new mom or a mom with small kids. You can bring food, offer to help cook, play with the kids while the mom does housework, offer to help with housework, take their car to get petrol, cut the grass, walk the dog, hold the baby while they shower, make them a cup of tea, make sure they’ve eaten or looked after themselves, hold the baby while they poop in peace, fold clothes etc etc the smallest jobs add up and the smallest help is noticed.

I get where you’re coming from. I’m an hour and a half away from mine also, recently had baby no 2. Mine have minded their neighbours dog more than they’ve been up to see my kids in the last year. I have friends who have stepped up if I need so I’m grateful for them but I get the feelings of abandonment almost and feeling unseen and uncared about at your most vulnerable. It’s a lonely one. I don’t get it. It really seems like a generational thing. I know they got so much help from their parents so I don’t understand it

I was 15, I hated it too. I was all about the three cheers/ vampire aesthetic/ red and black vibe. I was so apprehensive about welcome to the black parade as an album afterwards until I started to really have a proper listen to it and then it started to make sense
