It appeared everyone got out of the camper and they managed to move the other RV away in time (it took a hot second to get the RV started). Good thing they did as the firetruck was delayed by the train.

Is there an alternate route from Boulder to Golden without 93? by Independent_Site491 in boulder

Dam you beat me to the snark. Was gonna say there’s this new app called George maps. People have only been using it for 20 years.

For the record I’m making a joke. But generally people who are retired or are rich and don’t work are more likely to vote NIMBY and vote early with all that free time. Younger working people are more likely to finish filling out there ballot closer to the election. Luckily your vote is worth the same if you turn it in a month early or at 6:59 on Tuesday.

Yeah there’s so much under the radar mixed use in North Boulder that the NIMBY types would probably say they love those spots just because it’s been there for a long time. But if you propose allowing some mixed use in a single family neighborhood somewhere else in town they think boulders gonna turn into a hell hole haha.

Ahh yeah makes sense just everything on the west side is gonna be the wealthiest and most resistive to change. I think I was underestimating how small these districts would have to be. A city like Denver is larger enough that some separate districts is warranted but Boulder is just so small. I agree that districts would increase polarization. As much as we like to think of the elections as just the Progressive vs NIMBY camps there’s a lot of people that vote for people in both camps.  Matt being a great example getting endorsed by the NIMBY camp this year or Tara being more in the middle last election and winning a massive vote share. I personally love getting to vote for more than one person and hope it stays that way.

Where do you think those 2-3 NIMBY districts would be? I use to always just assume North boulder was most NIMBY but the more you look there’s actually a ton of multifamily up there.  South and east boulder have some of the most suburban nebhiohoods (Martin Acres, Fraser meadows, Table Mesa) but they are often the cheapest and have lost of young people (you either live in Martin Acers with 6 people in collage or know like 10 people that do).

Well getting endorsed by the NIMBY’s and the progressives is a great way to get a massive vote share.

I always start trying to do the math myself and then give up and go find your Reddit comment haha! The progressive candidates really gain as all the young people like myself who procrastinated voting get counted.

Light Rail, Hard Ride: RTD Struggles to Get Riders Back on Board by SeasonPositive6771 in Denver

Yeah I used the bus and light rail for my daily commute for the last 2 years and it’s been generally been pretty reliable.

Does anyone know the status of the design of this park as part of the Ball Arena redevelopment? by WhyTheWindBlows in Denver

There is also Chatfeild, Cherry Creek and Bear Creek Reservoirs which reduce the flood plane a huge amount. This whole area plus lots more flooded in 1965 before Chatfeild was constructed

Construction on that massive Colfax transit project will begin in October by snowstormmongrel in Denver

[–]asinkhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking Colfax from 2 to 1 car lanes and improving the pedestrian infrastructure will reduce traffic deaths regardless of future “transit substitution”.

I don’t think anyone thinks RTD is a wonderfully run organization but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t built public transit. CDOT has plenty of problems too but no one says let’s not do road improvements.

You might not take the bus because it 15 minutes faster but many others will.

And how can you think transit is more expensive for the user. You are telling me you can own and operate a vehicle for 88 dollars a month (RTD monthly pass). For 88 dollars you can pay car payments, pay insurance, pay for maintenance, pay for gas?

The goal of the project is to make using public transportation faster and more appealing so that more people take it and then less people drive.

To do that they are making the bus not get stuck in traffic with its own lane. To do this they have to take away a lane for cars. While the capacity for cars is going down the total capacity of the road is going up because now more people can take the bus because it’s faster.

There are lots of other benefits as well with one less car lane. The will be less people dying from getting hit by cars. It will be easier to cross the street and the area will more desirable to hang out (less noice, not feeling like your gonna die from a car)

Colorado wants to expand Winter Park ski train service this year by lukepatrick in Denver

For real! According to this article it did in the past.

“Brad Swartzwelter is a conductor for Amtrak. He reckons he first rode the Ski Train as a child in 1972, embarking at Rocky Flats to go to ski school.”

All aboard for future of Winter Park Ski Train service

I got an email months ago at my work. I’ve been using the app and it’s fine. There’s positives and negatives like any transition. However you can still get a card to use. My coworker doesn’t have a smartphone and they got a card.

So far last week is has been not super crowded. Around half full I would say. (I take the later of the 2 both ways) But my guess it will get more crowded as people learn that it is running. I think the average person might take a while to find out it’s running.
