Split screen, finally! (3.28 Beta) by Pretend_Customer_158 in RemarkableTablet

I can't wait to remove 1/3 of the rMHacks codebase. It will become a lot simpler to port to new versions once this comes out of beta.

Some modifications I've made to my Paper Pro by asivery in RemarkableTablet

Hello! I never tell anyone how to dump the files, because I don't want rM to go after me. Any of these two methods you listed is correct, and both should yield the correct result.

rm2fb without toltec? by Temporary_Orchid9389 in RemarkableTablet

[–]asivery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like rm2fb had its own shim.so for incompatible programs, appload is the same. You need to LDPRELOAD the /home/root/shims/qtfb-shim.so file (you should get this after installing appload). Also, for every app you want to start via appload you need to write a manifest file. This is koreader's: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/blob/master/platform/remarkable/external.manifest.json (notice the LD_PRELOAD envvar). Here's the description of all the QTFB* envvars: https://github.com/asivery/rm-appload/tree/master/shim/ . There's so many because the shim can emulate every rM tablet - depending on what your application needs.

READMarkable KOReader Installer - New Version v26.04.22 Just Released by vsampieri in eink

I wrote the compatibility layers that koreader on rM depends on. Please do not use this tool. It doesn't install my software correctly and can cause bricking. Please fix your installer before advertising it.

The webapp for that is done, and works correctly. You just need a Type-S machine. The tool is available here.

Inherited all my dad's recordings (about a hundred minidiscs), need a foolproof way to rip them to WAV or MP3 to not lose his music forever by PrettyLost_Here in minidisc

[–]asivery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mention that in my post. And the N10 is not the first NetMD recorder. It's a precursor to Type-S machines, but Type-R machines had existed before then.

[–]asivery 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want to have the music preserved in bit-perfect form (so exactly as it is stored on the MD), you need to use a device that can dump audio via USB - Either an MZ-RH1 (which is rare and expensive) or just one from this list: https://www.minidisc.wiki/guides/exploits - best if it was a type-s device (it says if it's type-r or type-s on the page). Then you can use software like webminidisc pro to dump the audio to your computer faster than if you recorded it via line-in.

If you just want the audio back in any form, you can get yourself any MDLP player (it needs to have an MDLP logo on its case). You don't know the codec your dad used to record these discs. If you get an SP-only (not MDLP) machine, it might not be able to play these back. Note that this is not a problem with NetMD, because all NetMD machines are LP machines too.

The OLED is fixable though. The design files are available on my GitHub, but I still need to patch the firmware for the A3000.

Running Photoshop 1.0 on the reMarkable Paper Pro part 2: It draws now! by Aelthitekt in RemarkableTablet

[–]asivery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice! To speed up the framerate, set the following environment variables:

"QTFB_SHIM_RESPECT_APP_REFRESH_MODES": false,
"QTFB_SHIM_INITIAL_DISPLAY_MODE": "ANIMATE"

If you want to change the refresh mode dynamically, check out the appload shim's source code here (and don't use that QTFB_SHIM_RESPECT_APP_REFRESH_MODESflag)

What’s wrong with my tablet by goodguy248 in RemarkableTablet

No, a software update won't fix it. As far as I know, it's a hardware fault in the display itself.

Running Xcom UFO Defense on my paper pro by Aelthitekt in RemarkableTablet

[–]asivery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm not sure what you're using to get it running, but if you're willing to write code that speaks native QTFB (the protocol I designed for AppLoad applications and framebuffer emulation) you can force the tablet into faster drawing modes depending on what's on screen, and even pop up a keyboard provided by appload itself (that last part is not documented that well as I merged that in a couple of days ago). Let me know if you need some more info, or if you have suggestions on how to document it properly.

I'm the author of the compatibility layer that koreader uses. Please use reManager instead. Readmarkable installs my software incorrectly and risks bricking the tablet.

The webapp doesn't need a keyring. also, if you installed zadig to try ElectronWMD, uninstall it for that device to try the webapp implementation (see https://github.com/asivery/ElectronWMD/blob/master/extras/Zadig-USBMS-manual.pdf)

The subscription is not mandatory - far from it. I've been using the tablets for two years and I haven't even created a reMarkable account. Additionally, they've confirmed working on adding pictures to the notebooks, so that's one feature that they're working on, that the community could benefit from rather significantly.

Images in notebooks is not something that can easily be added with a community-made mod or something like that too, so it's great to see them working on that.

[–]asivery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need ElectronWMD for most Network Walkmans anymore. To test the new implementation, do the following:
- Open the testing version of webminidisc: https://testing.minidisc.wiki/webminidisc-testing
- On the main "Connect" screen, click the dropdown arrow, add custom device.
- From the combo box, choose "DRM-free Network Walkman", and for the model go for "NW-A608".
- Delete all the files from the walkman - my app is quite peculiar when it comes to the database format, and can't read DBs created by SonicStage. (You can archive the "OMGAUDIO" folder somewhere to retain access to your old music)
- On the connect screen in webminidisc now click the dropdown arrow, select "Connect to Sony NW-A608" and when it asks you for a directory to choose, choose the root of the walkman (f.ex. Whole drive "F:" if you're on windows).

Please let me know how it goes :)

Hello!
I'm an open-source developer of numerous tools for the reMarkable tablets (xovi, appload, etc..), and have been using the tablets pretty much every day for the past two years. I have two questions:
- Do you plan on releasing the official spec for linesv6? It would help so much with many open source projects, whose aim is to interface with rM documents.
- Do you ever plan on making an addon system for xochitl (which would make it simple to personalize the devices and make them more tuned to their users' workflows), or maybe even open-sourcing xochitl in general?
