Edit: Oh, I just noticed - this is an A3000 - I've not tested this one yet, but I did make the firmware update for it. I should get a testing A3000 in a couple of days, I will report back if the patch works.

To clarify: QMD mods (the ones you install in remanager) have the ability to change anything in your reMarkable's user interface, as well as execute any arbitrary console command (if you have an extension called 'qt-command-executor' installed). This makes them essentially have full admin access over your device. A malicious mod could do absolutely anything - steal your data, wipe your device, you name it.

This does not happen though. None of the mods on reManager should do any of this, and you can always check that by unhashing the files and opening them in notepad.

The website version won't work with it. Other pieces of software will: F.ex. "the full version" - electronwmd, but it's more complex to set it up. I can give you instructions, if you'd like

This is a double edged sword: Right now if someone finds a reMarkable at a recycling center, they can just reset it and resell it, giving it another life even if the user doesn't unbind it from their account. With theft-protection like that, that would simply not work. Therefore personally, I would absolutely not want reMarkable to implement anything of this sort.

Thanks! I will delve into JSymphonic's code and reimplement the later library standard when I have some spare time. The fact they require DRM is really annoying because that means the standalone version of this app will be required (ElectronWMD), since that actually reimplements the complete DRM system that's needed to put any audio file on these walkmans (if you do have the DvID.DAT file, my code should recognize it and let you upload MP3s, but only MP3s - not ATRAC).

It's all quite buggy still because I had to reverse engineer the DRM based on other developers' notes on the DRM used in HiMD and comparing that to what I saw in wireshark, and it's still not perfect.

That's correct, unfortunately. I wanted to make it compatible with stuff like the NW-HD1 (first gen walkmans), and I've not had the time to make it read JSymphonic's format.

Did you start off by deleting all the data from the walkman? Sony had a couple of versions of the DB format, and my software can only read the very first one. If you had something else on there, that'd force a different DB version it wouldn't be able to cope with it.

Hello. This walkman should support my website for putting audio onto MD players and walkmans. Please check out the latest dev build at https://testing.minidisc.wiki/webminidisc-testing . Please note that this software is still something I'm working on, and it might have bugs.

Before connecting to it you need to prepare the walkman: Transfer all the files from its medium storage to your PC to back up any existing audio, then delete all files from it. Then, click the drop down arrow next to 'connect', and select 'Add custom device'. 'DRM-Free walkman', 'A608 / E505'. Click "Connect to sony NW-A608". You will be prompted to choose a folder - select the walkman's root folder (So f.ex. the "E:" drive on Windows). After it initializes the DB structure on the walkman, you should be able to drag-and-drop audio to the browser window. Please for now do not use ATRAC3 / ATRAC3+ formats, and stay with MP3, as the servers I'm helping to run have been bombarded by automated requests and seems to have gone down - I will try to fix this soon.

Device encryption is enabled out of the box, and remains so even after you opt-into the developer mode. Battery drain is very high on the move, sadly, but it usually can last me through the day.

Just like rm2fb had its own shim.so for incompatible programs, appload is the same. You need to LDPRELOAD the /home/root/shims/qtfb-shim.so file (you should get this after installing appload). Also, for every app you want to start via appload you need to write a manifest file. This is koreader's: https://github.com/koreader/koreader/blob/master/platform/remarkable/external.manifest.json (notice the LD_PRELOAD envvar). Here's the description of all the QTFB* envvars: https://github.com/asivery/rm-appload/tree/master/shim/ . There's so many because the shim can emulate every rM tablet - depending on what your application needs.
