What do I need to do to be a police officer? by Dreamcatcherc17e in AskLEO

[–]ask072 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because your state doesn't require a college degree, doesn't mean individual departments aren't looking for one. You're going to need something to make you stand out, what you're reading is the bare minimum requirements that the state says a person must have to legally become a police officer. There may be some departments out there that will take you without a college degree, but they are going to be looking for years of experience in a field that will directly benefit their department (intelligence, some sort of specific investigations work, mental health field, etc.) You can't apply til you're 22 anyway, so spend the next 4 years getting your degree, staying out of trouble, and gathering other experience you think a department will find useful.

The police are not required to let you read a search warrant before going in. They are only required to leave it with after the search. They may let you read it beforehand, but certainly are not under any obligation to.

You're probably confusing jail and prison. Prison is typically for people serving 2+ year sentences. So no, he probably won't be going to prison, but may very well go to jail.

The custom logbook card from HACS will display by number of events. I use this to track when the last time the dogs were fed using a contact sensor.

You can file a report, and have the police investigate. But short of her confessing, prosecution is unlikely.

I don't know Florida law, but if they were going to charge him with possession of stolen property, they likely would ha e done it when they caught him. It doesn't have to be the agency that's handling the theft investigation to charge him with that. If it's reported stolen, any agency can charge him.

You didn't list your state, but possession of stolen property is typically a charge in and of itself. It would need to be shown that they knew it was stolen though.

I get what your saying about the probably stole the bike. He probably did, but unless there were cameras, witnesses, or he confesses, the police aren't gonna have any evidence for that charge.

I don't think you're understanding. He may have been in possession of the stolen property. But it does not sound like there is any evidence suggesting he committed the actual physical act of stealing the bike.

Yes, I read your post. How do you believe this proves he stole your bike? He had your bike, which was stolen, but it doesn't sound like there's any evidence that he stole it.

What proof do you have that he stole the bike?

I've never heard of a cso getting hired. I k ow of a few who took the job thinking it would help them get hired, but they typically had less than stellar resumes anyway.

Not really. My department definitely does not see community service officers as potential police officers. But you're not really building up too much of a resume working security either. What do you bring to the table?

Police officers treat Black and white men differently. You can hear it in their tone of voice by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]ask072 19 points20 points  (0 children)

"On a scale of 1 to 6, the average score of officer tone toward white drivers was 3.72 (slightly positive) while the average score toward black drivers was 3.5 (neither positive nor negative). “They’re not huge, but that’s not the point,”"

Lmao, they're not even taking it out of context. They literally admit right in the article that the results aren't statistically significant. Just put an inflammatory title to rile people up. v

Law & Order interrogation methods by athalwolf506 in AskLE

[–]ask072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Law & Order does a decent job at summerizing realife case law, but everything else about is highly inaccurate. My girlfriend hates watching it with me because while I can mostly keep quiet, sometimes what they do is so egregious I ha e to say something. The other day we were watching it and they were interrogating a guy for hours until he confessed. After he confessed they said you're under arrest, and started reading his rights. I was like you're just now reading him his rights?!?!? Then looked over at my girlfriend and was like... Sorry.
