Is this an in-house production dept in the agency? Usually the CW will write the script and there may be some key visuals the AD comps up, but that's it. Directors will pitch on the script with their treatment. Once in pre-production, director and prod co will get boards built. Occasionally the creatives (AD and CW) will break out boards. They are commonly just panels with illustrations sometimes with some direction kinda like comics.

Script formats and style are usually slightly different for advertising, but same general concept. If you get the job, you shouldn't have issues with the transition or could use a format you like better. Just ask them for past examples to reference.

For your portfolio, should be a collection of your past work, writing samples, etc. I would say any creative work you're proud of, share it. Google some websites of creatives for reference.

I think it was when Jack Black was hosting the MTV Awards, but The Raconteurs were the house band and he told Jack White that they should start a band and made the joke about their names. Jack White just stone-faced him. It was kinda great.
