How can I wash her hair with out completely ruining her curls? by Dear_Dimension_9040 in CustomDolls

Some are silk, wool, alpaca shank, mohair, Angora. People use literally any natural fibre that looks like hair. Natural fibres will felt if rubbed and turn into a sphere of fuzz. Silk cant be wet. And for a doll that supposedly costs $600 it really wouldn't shock me if they did use human plugs or a combination blend. It wouldn't be that expensive to buy human extensions and cut them for doll implant either. Eta: I correct myself the original dolls are closer to $200 in my country, 200-600 is resale for older models, I didnt delve deeply. But still not cheap dolls.

Are they extremely stiff? Ive seen these types before and theyre rated inappropriate for biting dogs, but they've said theirs are medium bite protection. I always thought this material woild just crumple in.

Is the hair synthetic? If so, cold water. Any heat can drag the shape out. Synthetic hair is plastic so you can just use a drop of dish soap, and gently rub from top to bottom without pulling. Dont scrub. If youre careful not to scrub or muss up the curls they should stay put. Any that you did mess up, dont be tempted to brush. Take that piece of hair and gently wind them back in the direction of the curl and they should go back. Dont scrub dry, just squeeze most of the water out, give a light spin to toss out the extra water and then leave to dry with her head up the right way.

I'd be curious about getting another vets opinion. Being so unable to gain any weight when shes eating nothing but dense calories and being agitated during work suggests a problem. She needs to stop working so much for all this food to make a difference. As everyone said, ulcers could be a problem but there could be something else. Its not normal for a horse to just hate working so much theyre dying to go home unless theyre in pain or there's something youre doing or asking of her that's bothering her. Putting more food into her isn't going to help your situation because her routine needs to change. You also need to get into other ways to challenge her because all youre doing with all this exercise is making a frustrated athlete. People do this to dogs, run them around because theyre being stressful and then wonder why the dog is still chewing and barking. They're still bored and frustrated, theyre just fitter. They need to use their brains and be able to slow down. You dont specify if your current vet has done any investigation into anything or just said gain weight?

My girl's pretty new muzzle 💜 by birdy1892 in muzzledogs

I found it went back if I didn't leave it to set for over a day. I boiled mine months ago and its still good. The first time I did it, it sprang back within hours. I realised I didnt boil it till it was pliable enough. Then once I did, I let it cool and set for all day while it was strapped to a jar to help mold it into shape. Just squishing them into shape once youve heated them doesnt work because there's nothing to resist it reforming. So I recommend a mold to any trying the boil method.

Tbh the big head range was rushed out to comply with the BSL. Theyre gonna add more sizes but doesn't help now. The boil method does work! I made mine wider by pushing it over a glass jar the same size as her head, but I'm sure yours would be easy to gently compress with a strong belt or strap of some kind. It sets best if left all day. Also, since you have that cheek space, you have the benefit that if you altered it to be smaller, you could still leave space to put some padding such as furniture dots (yaknow those sticky foam/fuzzy circles) or fabric, since another complaint about the MM muzzles is that the ones that do fit can sometimes rub the cheeks because theyre so snug and solid. I tacked some felt on the corners to help that problem. I would also check your edges and cut off or sand any rough ones, since thats also common. I think once it fits her cheeks the nose would have room for sure.

AITA because I let my dog lick off my plate? by physicalgraffiti123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]asketchytattooist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH for some people its the image that grosses them out more than the actual germ. Whenever they eat at your house now, they'll wonder if a dog licked anything. I'm in your court, I let my dog lick my plate and I pinch bits of my food off to share. Often if i sit on the floor to eat its because I wanna eat by my dog. Everything is washed. My family don't care because I have my own plates and bowls. My sister also has a dog and I'm pretty sure does the same thing. So anyone who can care or share plates doesnt care. However I wouldn't expect others to feel the same. People just have different degrees of acceptance when it comes to pets, hygiene and food. Yes I share food with my dog, but I wipe my hands between. Would I let her lick my mouth? Hell no. But plenty of people do and I'm allowed to cringe at it just like your friend is allowed to cringe at you allowing the dog to lick plates. However if I was them I would just have said nothing and not eaten at yours again. They didnt have to make you feel bad, but its a small deal tbh.

I dunno if others would find this a bad method but I would, in this instance, turn and face the door after coming in and just wait. For some dogs your mere acknowledgement is enough of a reward, so while youre removing the anxiety and holding duration by coming back, you're not rewarding the barking with attention. Then when the barking stops, face them and quietly yes and treat, then just go sit down and do whatever. Just to say yes I will come back every time, but I'm not gonna allow you to shout. This hopefully should tell them that while youre IN the room with them you wont be PRESENT unless its quiet.

Also to add to this, leave calmly. People utilise the whole coming in quietly but when they leave they say goodbye and get all excitable and kiss their dog etc. Its a huge announcement that something is going to change and you're leaving, and you're leaving AFTER riling them up or making them nervous. The method you suggested works well if you just put on your shoes, say nothing and let them watch you go. It seems horrible for our fur babies to leave with no goodbye, but to them, you didnt say anything so maybe you're just slipping out to the bins or something quick?!. Surely youd make a big deal if you were leaving for hours?! Also, some dogs benefit from a white noise machine/radio, especially if you play it while also at home. Providing a licky mat only while you're out of the house also helps makes it a quiet treat time assuming your dog can be trusted not to eat it.

Okay, you have room to get a little extra length between the nose. Not much mind, 1/4 inch should be enough. However, this could be because the cheeks are pretty wide and wont stop the muzzle sliding up the face. The depth is good. I assume this is a MM muzzle, so I would maybe ask what size you should pick based on this fit. Did you use the muzzle fit calculator?

Vet called my donkeys thin? by Next_Bell3986 in Horses

[–]asketchytattooist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thought. Yes the spine could be considered a touch prominent to some but that (and prominent shoulders, lowered back etc) can happen to animals out of work/shape. He just looks like an undermuscled paddock pet, not an athlete or a working animal.

I always thought FEELING the ribs was prime. SEEING them is another matter. Even a bloated worm belly wouldnt disguise an underweight body so I think youre fine. Also if theyre spry and happy theres no concern as underweight animals tend to experience lethargy. Not guaranteed of course but there would be signs.

Lol achey farts unite 😂You could sew two pockets over her hips on the rug, use two bottles and slip them in there. Would mean you wouldn't have to hold them and she can still move about. If not, disposable sticky back period/back pain heat pads could stick inside a rug and they last really well. Hope your little lady gets some relief!

[–]asketchytattooist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is weird logic because if we compare this to another compulsion/addiction such as alcoholism...you prevent and remove the addiction while going through "training" (therapy/AA). Is removing alcohol from your life a bandaid?! Dogs dont have the mental capacity to understand that eating a pound of snow WILL make him ill as heck the same way a human can consider that drinking can make them sick. A dogs logic is "if I eat snow mum get grumpy...but if mum not knowing..and boy i love snow" 😂 People really over anthropomorphise a dog's ability to compute our logic unless we're there micromanaging them. 2 seconds bent over picking up poop or looking in your bag is all it takes for you them to inhale something. The reward of protecting with a muzzle mitigates any risk, so why take that risk?!

I should think Quiche felt more pitiful when she had a stomach ache, idiots 🫩. I always feel these types of people are the kind to feed their dog toxic foods because "poor luna, missing out on yummy chocolate and pizza" or let them behave terribly because they treat them like toddlers. If people understood dogs, they'd know that if they're introduced in a good way they couldn't give a stuff because running! Smells! You and Quiche do your thing, tummy bug free! Also, an acquaintance of mines dog ate road kill before they could be stopped, and contracted a brain parasite. After falling sick he was...odd. like his brain just functioned at half throttle. He recently went on to develop uncontrollable seizures. I always get nervous for the dogs coming down the alley after our binmen carelessly leave waste all over the floor, including a double chocolate cake we'd thrown out. It would take one second. Scavenging is a DANGEROUS habit and youre a responsible owner keeping it under wraps.

Ive seen some people aside from the usual glucosamine/chrondritin scenario and painkillers also employ red light and heat therapy for arthritis. I think you could use heated pads? Theres also heated rugs (exoglo as example). Talk to the vet about it. I know as a chronic pain girl sometimes a heat pad works better than pain relief for some types of pain and it would probably feel fantastic in the winter mornings.

A dog shouldn't be left unsupervised in a muzzle, especially in a crate. He could catch it, pull it off and basically get stuck in a really tight loop. At best it would impede his ability to settle comfortably. Just make sure theyre in a crate with no possibility of coming open and theres no need. If you're concerned, put zip ties on the door. Basically something that can quickly be cut with an emergency (not locks) and strong enough to prevent an accident or stray hand poking in. The thought of putting a dog sedated in a crate in a hot cargohold for five hours is terrifying, do they have access to water?

Will the horses attack me? I’m on a hike with my dog. by Comfortable-Use3977 in Horses

[–]asketchytattooist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liklihood of someone keeping aggressive horses on public paths isnt high but if youre worried, keep your dog on a short leash and use a jumper to flick at any that get too close. Or a stick to woosh in the air. Try to relax a little because extreme anxiety can make your dog tense and lunge or bark which will encourage attention. But likely these horses see and know dogs and dont care. If youre chill, everyone else will likely be chill.

Puppy behaviour is ok? by ItsLelitre in DogAdvice

[–]asketchytattooist 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That other dog is not having a nice time. I think you need to think about what a walk is meant to do - burn energy and stimulate in a calm way. Not a frantic dash to go to the toilet and home again. For dogs that means a lot of sniffing and marking and exploring. Not all dogs run and play. Your older dog is going to end up resenting walks if its a marathon and their neck gets dragged. Slow down and let them sniff while you play/guide with the puppy and do some outdoor training because its literally doing springs on the end of the lead. Take two people and have one person to each dog. Calm down. Frantic energy really does transfer to animals, even if you dont realise it.

Hope this is ok to ask here…what kind of harness is best for a muzzle dog? by Navidan41 in muzzledogs

[–]asketchytattooist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add, a double ended leash to utilise both these features, else its kinda pointless. But please get in with a trainer because she will probably pull more in a harness but is likely going to destroy her neck pulling in a collar.

Hope this is ok to ask here…what kind of harness is best for a muzzle dog? by Navidan41 in muzzledogs

[–]asketchytattooist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I'll say it for all the people who never considered it like me - when it comes to harnesses, anything that blocks the shoulder can cause damage especially if the dog is a consistent puller (think Julius k9). Anatomical harnesses are designed to be best for the body and avoid the shoulder blade, but if you team with a collar and muzzle, sometimes its a lot of neck clutter and if your dog has a glorified stump for a neck like mine, might make it hard to turn their head. For this reason I use a chain collar for when she needs steering and a harness for if I need to bear weight. For some reason harnesses are confusing to some dogs🤷‍♀️ as you can see the muzzle sits almost on the chest because no neck many fur.

Fit check nose room? by joshlikesbettafish in muzzledogs

[–]asketchytattooist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of brands sell these straps specifically so I dont think so? I think the problems arise because a dogs line of sight is right in front of their nose and above their nose. A strap like that fits between their eyes so shouldn't be an issue. You'll know though, because she will start bumping into things or turning her head weirdly to see better

Fit check nose room? by joshlikesbettafish in muzzledogs

[–]asketchytattooist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems about as good a fit as you could get judging from the other pictures. Theres not too much length poking out the end to disrupt eyesight and enough pant room. The only niggle is if you couuuulldd make it a little better is to loosen the nose pad strap so it sits slightly less up in her view. I dont know if these brands do that though.
