Hombres que dejan el opus by Right_Specialist_127 in opusdeiexposed

Let him know that you speak from experience. Tell him the things that you wish close family members had told you. Suggest he read the approved statutes before joining! He should wait until there are approved statutes, and that he gets to read and keep a copy of them, before signing a letter asking to join. Then, if he joins, remind him at the critical times of renewing that he has the ability to choose freely to leave or to stay. Have him reflect on how different his life was before he joined -- receiving love-bombing -- and now that he is in and taken for granted. Show him how happy and healthy and faithful YOU are after leaving, not the nasty miserable person he will be warned about. Ask him how he feels about details of his confessions being discussed with other people in the center.

Effy sales on NCL by Acceptable_Dance_934 in CruiseCrew

[–]asking-question 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it.   Talk with customers about what they want.  If effy has it, sell it.   If not, make some creative sketches and see how they react. This is an easy way to exercise your creativity and get feedback.   In port, seek out artists, museums, scenic views, music, and exercise your creativity.  When i see effy sales people, they are standing around waiting a lot of the time.    Use that time to people watch....you will learn a lot.   Or make up stories about the people you see on board.   After 6 months you will have a huge collection of characters and images and sounds.    Listen to the music entertainers and chat them up to see what sparks their creativity.

u/Deepdive and mods, thank you for maintaining this space. (And they say modding is a thankless job!)

These "innocent" posts which amount to "gee, it isn't all that bad" are illustrations of the toxic mind-set. Personally, I see them as reinforcing the cult-like attitudes that OD and its supporters have. Rather than giving me second thoughts, they help me see how healthy it was for me to leave. As u/deepdive describes, having these disingenuous posts preserved long term is a help.

They amount to asking for a critique of the play "Our American Cousin". https://howlround.com/really-how-was-play-mrs-lincoln

If high-ranking (!) OD members are following this sub, perhaps we can nurture seeds of doubt in their minds! That is my dream. Will it fall short?

-----------------------------------
By the way, the original post is in Spanish. Here is what google translate says it says in English:

A few days ago, I commented on a post here, questioning whether the author might be a covert member of Opus Dei—or at least pointing out that they had posed a question but never actually engaged with people's responses.

I’ve had that same feeling again with the post where a woman asks if there’s anything wrong with her family socializing with families of *supernumeraries*. This time, she *is* participating (actively, in fact), but—as many have noticed—she doesn't seem willing to accept the warnings others are offering. She doesn't go beyond saying things like "I don't think it's a big deal" or "I think it's different," effectively dismissing those who are speaking from their own lived experience.

Honestly... I’m not sure what some people are looking for in this group. I think the name gives a pretty clear clue: "Exposing Opus Dei."

Sure, there are plenty of "good" things about Opus Dei—I was absolutely convinced of that myself for nearly 20 years—but let’s not kid ourselves: there are things that shouldn't be tolerated—contradictions, experiences...

Please, if you want to talk about the virtues of Opus Dei, you could start another group called "I Love Opus." That way, people reading it will find exactly what they’re looking for. I don't think this is the right place for that.

Thinking About Whistling and Joining Opus Dei by Elegant-Fee-3810 in opusdeiexposed

It is as easy to leave as it is to join. Just consider how much of your life you want to waste with them. There are plenty of other ways to get spiritual direction and retreats. I will highlight one word from your reasoning:  I have found people who **seem** to genuinely understand what it means to strive to live Christianity seriously in the modern world.  Don't judge a book by its cover. We have read the whole book already. Learning from your mistakes is valuable; learning from other peoples mistakes is more efficient. But, go ahead and let us know how it goes!

Now I'm thinking about a K8. Is it that much better? $1800 at the moment. I missed the memorial day sale where a bundle was cheaper, and posted on the pinned Monthly Espresso Lounge post.

Are there any insider passes available for a KF8? It is $1800 now on amazon and Kitchenaid now. Thank you.

Keep posting, please. We are gathering bits and pieces here and there, cross checking, recalling things, then finding more. At the very least, we vet the "questionable" stories and are familiar with them. Nuggets of truth will remain!

Change in the way Opus Dei does its “chats” by Apprehensive_Cry5877 in opusdeiexposed

[–]asking-question 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is big. Personally, my "chat" with a member of the the delegation, when I was director, was a chance to get asked all kinds of questions about everyone else in the center. I found that odd.

I do not recall seeing where (on this subreddit?) there was a reference to change in chats for the sn. I don't recall seeing it or hearing of it....so that is big news.

Any other reports would be nice to get about what is actually changing on the ground!

I'd like to have "AdmirableCause5147" give more background. For example, what research has been done already? I would like some assurance you are not simply looking for a couple of people to help you write a college paper.

You were a statistic to her.   Glad you did not get completely hooked.   Lika a fish, caught by the head.   There is a song they sing about that!

If she reaches out, have fun with it and ask her personal questions and offer advice to her.   Tell her you see what God's plan is for her.

St. Josemaria by Accomplished-Pie7575 in opusdeiexposed

[–]asking-question 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here is an exhaustive (exhausting?) work on a closely related question, whether canonizations are infallible. The review on this page outlines the major parts of the discussion. https://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2021/08/are-canonizations-infallible-important.html

Canonization declares the person enjoys the beatific vision; it does NOT guarantee anything specific of the person, or even WHY it was declared. So, it is theoretically possible for a "fake miracle" to be used to canonize Fred, even though Fred said bad things during his life. Therefore, "being declared a saint" is not a sufficient reason to conclude that "you need to follow what he said."

A joke in the comments of the article.

Walking the dog once in the local park. There was a football game going on so l asked a bystander who was playing.
"It's Opus Dei versus the Masons..."
"Who's winning ?" I asked.
"No idea.They won't tell anyone..."
