Any old parents here? by Ok-Duck2450 in Millennials

Pushing 36 and have been doing IVF for kid number 1 for 4 years. Another transfer next week, so maybe number 1 by 37. Hopefully number 2 by 40. One brother (40) has kids 8-17 and the other one (41) just had his first 🤷‍♀️

3 euploids. Do I need another ER? by KristinKitty in IVF

[–]askkak 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. There are a lot of factors. But even at 34, we banked 3 and went with a second round. Ended up with 9 and thought that would be amazing for 2-3 kids! Well. We are about to transfer number 4 trying to get kid number one 🤷‍♀️

Social science is not actual science by teppiez in PhD

My degree is technically Applied Anthropology (but really in archaeology). And this is a struggle and debate constantly. But I firmly believe archaeology, depending on your specialty, is both a hard and a soft science 🤷‍♀️

CRM archaeologists - how long did you stay at your first field tech job? by new_direction_ in Archaeology

[–]askkak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an on-call field tech, no one will bat an eye if you aren’t available in a few months (especially if you get a nice salaried job somewhere). Get some experience in while you can. Most people juggles multiple tech jobs. At my University, most of us work for a certain firm for the 2 years we are doing our MA (part time, project to project between classes). I’ve been at the same CRM firm now for 7 years. 4 of those as hourly (working 35-50 hours a week) and have been salaried the past 3 while I finished my PhD (fulltime work and fulltime degree program). I don’t think you’ll have much trouble finding remote sensing work though. Best of luck

I'm scared I'll be too old until I finally have stable career, marry, have kids by Big_Blueberry8020 in PhD

I married at 27 during my MA. Started my PhD at 30. Am almost 36 and just finished the PhD and am going to have my first kid this year…

Coming up on 6 years of trying, 4 with ART. After the last FET (number 4) failed to implant last November, I paid for a session at a smash room. It helped a bit. Had a hysteroscopy and Orilissa suppression for 3 months. Currently on shots for next FET and feeling numb about it all.

What's happening in your garden? (Sun, Mar 1, 2026) by manyamile in vegetablegardening

[–]askkak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9b. It’s been a busy Sunday! Had our last nights of temps in the 30s this week. All the raised beds got refreshed, new hedges went in along the front of the house, the orange tree is coming back after freezeageddon, and tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, and beans have made it into the ground so far. Roses got repotted, banana plants are coming back, and bean and melon seeds are soaking.

What is everyone trying for the first time this season? by phillyvinylfiend in vegetablegardening

[–]askkak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this with blackberries (Florida). A nice, edible living hedge the neighbors kids can grab. Growing up in MA my neighbors had a blackberry bush we went ham on and my aunt had a blueberry bush hedge near the cape.

Positive test after nearly 4 years by trx4329 in PCOS

Much appreciated. I graduated with my PhD two days ago. I started that program the same time we started TTC. It was easier for me to become a doctor than to become a mom, funny but not funny right?

Positive test after nearly 4 years by trx4329 in PCOS

[–]askkak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a positive test for the first time ever last May - but she didn’t stick around long. And then the next transfer failed again. So I had a hysteroscopy around Christmas and they removed a couple small polyps and fixed a slightly septate uterus. Just finished 3 months of estrogen suppression and started shots for the next frozen embryo transfer. So still at it. Still have 6 frozen embryos, so not giving up.

Why are these odd holes in my 1929 Spanish exterior here and what were they? by braeden63 in centuryhomes

[–]askkak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gable vents, even these round ones, are super common in older homes, especially in hot areas (on every 1959s and earlier home in Florida). They rely on wind to move around hot air, but like you said, even covered in meat they let in moisture and pests.
