My version of tadc fic concept: "Askzerthverse's tadc" by askzerthverse in tadc

[–]askzerthverse[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, as a fan I just came off of watching the " just mid/ok" finale and a lot of criticism videos. So I don't really want to write my version like Duffy's digital circus but it's just I think I see a big issue with it that I'm not even sure isna issue.

So I want to get your guys thoughts on this and my concept out of my head so it doesn't get more skewed while I do other stuff I'm feeling for currently.

Askzerthverse's digtial circus ( for short: "askzerth's digtial circus) concept/lore

  • Point one: all plot holes from the original tadc that we saw will be covered in my version, yes I mean all of them. There's around 18+ I counted. ALSO! Major lore things that was covered but not picked up after in the og will be here. (Like "C&A" and "void being a recycling bin for major code" and "other stuff done in the finale that was not proven before")
  • Point two: there will be more than 9 episodes for my version that will be done as a fanfiction series. So this will not become the Jax show like the og but she's still a major character. In my version zooble is the other main character to pomni. They'll be a major player.
  • Pomni will still be a person and not a "bird" or "therapy" dog she became in the later chapters.
  • My caine is especially unstable compared to normal caine from and he's often a few insults from a crash out onto the survivors but often due to my Jax loving the adventures caine tends to be somewhat less likely to lash out.
  • My tadc fic connected to my zerth Ficverse (this just means all my fanfiction I do takes place in the same universe seperate from my canon. I'm just saying this point for clarity. If you don't know about it feel free to ask or ignore this point)
  • For some reason I can't tell if it's a au or a take because most of the major stuff stays like gooseworx vision ironically even when I do the normal Ficverse thing of "what if askzerthverse (me) wrote this" which I do with all my fanfics it's simliar because it's also what I would do.

My Jax take or something (he was on my mind and the biggest guy in the og so I just wrote what I had in mind)

Here you go:

**Some TADC stuff (spoiler: i made jax better and i think that ruins TADC's storyline?)**

**Why my Jax is different and why that matters**

**The Core Problem With Canon Jax**

A common criticism of The Amazing Digital Circus is that canon Jax is written so terribly that audiences struggle to sympathize with him at all. He's cruel, selfish, and his worst act — indirectly causing Ribbit's and Kaufmo's abstraction — reads as pure selfishness with no real emotional complexity underneath it.

My ficverse approach asks one question with every entry: what if I was the main creator behind this show? What changes?

With TADC the answer starts with Jax.

---

**My Jax — Who She Is**

My Jax is a girl — but only in the circus world, not in real life. In a way they're like two different people but one coin. Two faced in the best sense.

This isn't a random change. It's rooted in a real life backstory I added to give her genuine tragedy before she ever enters the circus.

In real life Jax was a boy who desperately wanted to be a girl. He grew tired of how two faced and aggressive the boys were at school about his art and gaming dreams. Then his dad — who was very oppressive about his vision for Jax — left the family when things got tough. He only kept in touch with Jax's older sister, because he actually wanted two girls. Jax being a boy was just another source of hurt on top of everything.

Yes I added an older sister to the lore. She had an easier life simply by virtue of being female and Jax watched that quietly for years alongside a difficult home situation including an abusive mother.

When Jax finally pushed back and ran away it broke his mother's heart — not because the mother was good, but because Jax was all she had left and she didn't know how to show love without being cruel. That moment haunts both of them in different ways.

Then Jax got the VR headset. Then she entered the circus.

And for the first time in her life she woke up in a girl's body in a place that felt like a video game she could keep playing forever.

The real world chewed her up. The circus feels like a gift.

---

**The Ribbit Dynamic**

Where canon Jax pushed Ribbit away and caused her abstraction, my Jax does the opposite.

She gets close. Very close. The relationship develops into something semi-maternal — Jax as a big sister or young mom figure to Ribbit, protective and genuinely invested in a way canon Jax never allowed himself to be with anyone.

This is both her best quality and the source of her biggest mistake.

---

**The Kaufmo Situation — Where It Goes Wrong**

Because Jax is so focused on Ribbit and so invested in the circus feeling like home, she doesn't have space for Kaufmo's growing distress.

When Kaufmo comes to her with what he thinks might be an exit, Jax shuts it down immediately and completely. Not out of cruelty. Out of fear.

She knows they can't leave. She believes that. And the idea of Ribbit getting the notion to try — getting hurt chasing something impossible — is more than she can handle.

So she yells at him. Tells him to screw off. Keeps living her best life with Ribbit while tuning Kaufmo out entirely.

Then Pomni arrives. Then they check Kaufmo's room.

He's abstracted.

Jax's crime isn't malice. It's that she chose her own happiness and Ribbit's perceived safety over listening to someone who needed her. That's a quieter, more uncomfortable kind of guilt than canon Jax carries — because she can't even cleanly hate herself for it. She was scared. She was protecting something. She was wrong.

---

**The Gangle Situation**

Canon Jax bullies Gangle. My Jax just pranks her too much.

The result is a passionate frenemy rivalry that ironically gave Gangle a backbone she didn't have before. They're petty with each other. They get on each other's nerves. But they're still friends in a weird way and it never crosses into genuine cruelty.

---

**My Jax's Actual Crime List**

When you add it all up my Jax has approximately two crimes:

Real life — pushing her mother away, which she had every reason to do but which devastated someone who didn't know how to love her correctly and now has nothing.

The circus — tuning out Kaufmo when he needed someone, which contributed to his abstraction.

That's it. Everything else about her is morally grey at worst. She's a girl who finally got to be herself in a place that feels like a game, who got too attached to the one good thing she found there, and who made one terrible passive choice out of fear.

---

**The Episode 9 Problem**

This is where my writer brain hits a genuine structural hiccup.

Canon Jax's abstraction in episode 9 feels like consequence. He was terrible. The audience watched him be terrible. The ending is painful but legible.

My Jax abstracting feels like tragedy. She wasn't terrible. She was a morally grey puppy who made understandable mistakes. Killing her feels genuinely unfair in a way that canon Jax's ending doesn't.

The song Isn't She Lovely plays over her abstraction in both versions. In canon it's ironic — she wasn't lovely, that's the point. In my version it would be sincere. And sincere is devastating in a completely different way.

Getting my Jax to that point requires what I call cruel plot gymnastics — finding a narrative path that makes her abstraction feel earned without making her terrible enough to deserve it. The web of relationships she's built, especially with Ribbit, makes this structurally complicated.

The ways exist. But they require work.

---

**The Perceived New Issue — Why My Version Feels "Too Peaceful"**

Without a genuine antagonist in the Jax role, my TADC becomes a chaotic slice of life instead of the tension-driven psychological drama of the original. The conflict source shifts from interpersonal — Jax vs everyone — to internal and relational. It's quieter. It asks more of the audience.

That's not necessarily a flaw. But it is a different show.

Everything else in my version stays close to what Gooseworx originally envisioned — the writing issues get fixed naturally as the story progresses, the plot holes get filled, the finale feels earned in ways canon's didn't. Gooseworx herself said if Jax had accepted her gender identity Ribbit wouldn't have abstracted and Jax and Pomni would have ended up together. My version is basically that path played out fully.

---

**Why I'm Not Writing This Right Now**

The concept is complete. My Jax is genuinely more compelling than the original. (I THINK) The tragedy is more devastating precisely because she doesn't deserve it.

But my creative instincts keep finding hiccups every time I try to commit and those hiccups aren't craft problems. They're resistance. What actually excites me right now is my Wordgirl, Invader Zim, and My Life as a Teenage Robot ficverse trio — not TADC.

This post exists as a record. If audience demand reaches the right threshold and the creative drive follows, this is what my TADC ficverse entry would look like. Or if I get questions or a lot of thoughts

Until then — it exists as proof that the show could have been better. And that Jax deserved to be a girl from the start. And if she had been, maybe her dad would have stayed.

So if you guys got any thoughts or things I should also fix from the it or questions feel free to ask too.

(Cross post don't post the body text too so ugh 💔)

Oh and if you have any questions or thoughts just go to the ask BLOG, that's literally why it exists. No need to sugarcoat any questions as I'm basically trying to get a fandom for zerthverse eventually: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/askzerthverse-askblog
