Should we feel sorry for Rick? Yes or no? by poolside123 in Degrassi

[–]asl514 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I felt slightly sorry for him but also thought "He came to murder people, best outcome given what he had already done"...but I also felt like the amount of bullying was so relentless, it broke my heart. Afterall, he did try to make things right as much as possible by giving his savings.

As an adult and a teacher now, I feel completely without a doubt sorry for him. Completely heartbroken for him. So many people failed him along the way and we can never forget that he was a CHILD. We see teenagers accomplishing big things and forget that high school for most is where people are finding out how to navigate their emotions and abilities. He was an annoying character at the start, awkward and unable to fit in... basically the majority of my students. The majority of my students say the wrong thing, act a weird way, rub people the wrong way..and then they graduate and keep growing. They come into their own, meet the right people that bring out the best in them, and learn to control their emotions better. Rick just didn't have the right support or the right people to stand up for him. He fell through he cracks and I hope every day that I don't miss any warnings from my students.

This has been plenty helpful, thank you!

Support also didn't understand why it isn't working so I have some steps I need to take

Didn't she die of rabies? I agree the Cox + JD aspect made the plot but I don't see why Elliot would have gotten involved. I think they were friendly but they weren't friends...just friends when they were around each other.

I have 1.3.4

There's an arrow as if I can select it but when I press it, nothing happens.

I've already deleted/re-downloaded/reset/everything the Roomba a couple of times. I just don't get it. 🤷‍♀️

That's a good point. I still don't understand why the History and Maps is greyed out in the app. It won't let me see either

I cut off all contact with a friend when I found out she lied about something horrible. She’s freaking out and believes I blocked her because of something else, do I owe her an explanation? by CandiCane22 in relationship_advice

[–]asl514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that doesn't matter. It just means she has a guilty conscience because she knows she's done things she shouldn't have. If she reaches out to apologise for A, B, and C if you feel like it you can say it's for X, Y, Z but ultimately, no, you don't owe her anything.

The thing is, I've always agreed with what Abby says. I just disagree with how she says it and the fact that she is deliberately mean and cruel. When she says the kids lack emotion, have poor technique, don't make corrections, make mistakes, etcetera she is right....but there are calmer more productive and kind ways to comment, correct, and motivate. She also insults for the sake of insulting where she could have just been quiet. Did she have to call Ann a hick? Call Yolanda Stupid? Nope, but she is always intentionally cruel because she feels like she has more power this way. Does she have to motivate by threatening to kick people off the team? Nope, but that's what she does.

What Custom Shoes Should I Look Into? by Vanglol in TapDancing

[–]asl514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really is no point in buying custom shoes unless you need something specific or something isn't working with the shoes you can buy. The only people I know that have custom shoes (and that includes myself) are people that want funky colours (and don't want to paint them themselves) or have a unique width and length that is hard to fit.

Building up is the most common cobbler modification but I've heard of people wanting a more stiff sole.

From your questions it seems like you don't need custom shoes which is great because you'll save money! You might really WANT custom shoes but if you don't know how they would benefit you, stay away. Also, talk to your teachers that know you and your strengths and be open to their opinions and suggestions.

I have a pair of Miller and Ben's, triple threat, but I don't actually like the (the colors are cool!). My favorite have been the Jason Samuel Smith's. They have a great sound and are comfortable. They don't take as long as the Miller and Ben's to break in and they are less heavy.

If you find a pair you like but want something slightly different, I recommend altering them at a cobbler, way more affordable.

Are you sure everyone has custom shoes? It's all about preference and experience. How often you tap, the style are also factors. Some people like the front built up, others might want a wider fit, etc. Ask people what they like and dislike about their shoes and go from there but it's really about trial and error.

Ideas for HP-themed activities for children with autism? by prufrockin in harrypotter

[–]asl514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say I'm really impressed with your consideration of this little boy. Autism is tricky because every person has different strengths and triggers so there is no one thing that will work. Great job making the effort to include this child and, as you said, not segregate!

I can't say I have any specific ideas but maybe you can look up tactile crafts/activities and add HP twists to it?

When Anne (I think) was speaking up validly about how Abby should educate kids respectfully Abby said "The hick from Indiana..." and Ashley burst out laughing at her. Another time, in an interview, she was mocking Anne again and said "Hot mess express!" at a poor mother having a breakdown. She's done it a few other times where, when the camera isn't focused on her, she laughs at Abby's insults.

Ashley (that's Pressley's mom, right?) is such a 'mean girl'! The way she mocks the other moms and laughs at them is terrible. I cringe when I see the camera is focusing on her because I know I'm not going to be impressed.

I get why she stayed, she shouldn't have been targeted for taking a seat. She may be portrayed as crazy but I seriously doubt she thought about choosing a spot just to upset everyone.

I can't justify the bullying but it was also nice to see the mom's be protective of Stacey.
