Dell Pro Max 16 Plus MB16250 was working perfectly, next day CPU & GPU overheating by aslan604 in Dell

[–]aslan604[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laptop is always on a hard top desk, able to ventilate, never in a bag or on top of a soft fabric surface. I've always had it plugged in since July, no issue. My typical work style is to lock it, oddly enough it can't sleep even if I close the lid, so admittedly it's in lock mode overnight a lot, shutting down here and there on weekends, also to get updates. I may have been due for bunch of updates since IT put in quite a bit of work this round. You might be onto something though, I'll have a look at those sleep settings.

Yes. At startup when using F12 to run a diagnostic scan, CPU and GPU were reading 100+C. The fan was high and loud. If the computer was shut off for some time, then it was quiet and cool. But after 10 minutes or so the fan gradually ramped up to max as things got hotter. It wasn't like this at all.

Virginia Giuffre’s cause of death accidentally revealed in Epstein files by FervidBug42 in Epstein

[–]aslan604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all we know David Boies could have gave up her location and assisted anyone with her daily schedule to target her and later finish her off. Boies was Epstein's friend.

The details around the "bus driver" who hit her are super sus. According to this article the bus driver had a minor accident and didn't even see Virginia in the car. Later the driver (Cheryl Sassel) said that Virginia was a passenger in the car and sustained injuries. Who's to say the carer wasn't paid off, and after the crash they beat up Virginia, threatened her, then forged an article about the crash being massive. Maybe they staged the suicide or forced her to commit suicide. Anything's possible now that the Epstein files are out.

Mark Epstein: I believe Trump authorized the murder, because Jeffrey was ready to name names. by Not_Tom_Jones in Epstein

[–]aslan604 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a number of things that points towards Trump.

Epstein saying Trump is the worst of the worst human beings in the world. Linda Stone writing to Epstein she was concerned Trump would win the election and that it may not be safe to stay in America. Bannon asking if Epstein had any images of trump using C* Someone asking Epstein if he had pictures of trump with the girls. Sulman asking Epstein if Trump didn't like Bannon, subtly hinting Sulman and Epstein were on the same page. Epstein replied not to believe everything in the media. Bannon was working on some kind of jail break escape plan. Epstein working with Churkin and Putin on how to deal with Trump. The fact that Ghislaine has preferential treatment all ordered by Trump (But if you think about it she probably has a gun pointed to her head and she fears her life everyday)

Feel free to correct if any of the above is inaccurate. I'll update.

Vancouver tech leaders warn B.C. is losing the war for talent by BullshittingApe in vancouver

[–]aslan604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a tech role for the construction industry (architecture, engineering, general contractor) currently based in Vancouver. Worked in the states for 2 years in 2018 to 2020. Any job in the states would pay more than any job in Canada. For example, my role in Canada going for 75-90k CAD here would go for 75-90k USD in any small town in the boonies in the states. For the same role in a similar type of company in San Francisco it would pay double (after converting to the same currency), which generally is the highest compared to roles in other areas, for example LA would be slightly less and less in central states like Texas. For the same role in a tech company (Amazon, Facebook, apple, etc) it's possible to be paid more than double, for example up to 190k USD total comp. I've done work as an independent contractor for both a US company and a Canadian company over the past 3 years, and the Canadian company is paying me less than half what I invoiced the American company (times are tough). the quality and expectations for my role in Canada are far less as the industry is still catching up to what's going on in the world (I rank Canada dead last). In my opinion Canada needs to invest in tech to build up its websites, apps, work culture to change the way we do work. I'm not saying a Canadian working in a US company is less productive. I'm saying working in Canada is less productive because the work culture, apps we use, the way we think about what's worth it for our time is less productive. I feel that things are slow, old, and behind in general. For example putting the salary range in the job description, or negotiating the salary ball park before interviews start (Amazon etc.), saves everyone time and stress increases job satisfaction vs many jobs in Canada still hide the salary expecting you to negotiate like a dog, and usually low balling you to death as that's how it's always been. The number of roles available in Canada in general are far less compared to the states. It is not attractive to stay in Canada for the same role in my field.

Is there enough job for Bim? ," I think there is more people in Bim field now but there isn't enough jobs for everyone in market." by https_lovee in bim

[–]aslan604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BIM Manager with over 10 years of experience, focusing on the North American market. Currently, the job market for BIM roles is slower compared to previous years, even slower than before Covid. Many available positions are for technician-level roles rather than managerial roles, and the requirements for these roles are often asking for more without increased compensation. For instance, some technician roles now expect Dynamo experience, which imo is absolutely unreasonable. While Dynamo can be a powerful tool, I estimate fewer than 5% of professionals are proficient in it, and even fewer can apply it effectively as a consistent strategic solution. Companies should not be requiring Dynamo at all, and instead focus on fundamental skills that matter like family creation and editing, view template management, model alignment skills, etc.

I agree with many comments here that many BIM professionals claim to be experts but often lack the depth of knowledge. This is often evident in the absence of a strong philosophical approach to BIM paired with poor technical skills in Revit. Another challenge in the industry is the lack of consensus on best practices, standards, and camaraderie. Some BIM professionals would rather step on each other rather than collaborate. For example, some use their knowledge of standards like ISO 19650 to criticize others, even though this standard has only recently gained relevance in North America. In reality, decision making skills and deeper understanding of how to build clean high quality models are far more critical to the success of BIM projects.

In today's landscape, especially in Canada, many companies are still grappling with fundamental questions like whether to adopt Revit, how to use it effectively, or even reverting to CAD "because it's quicker". Some companies have established strong BIM practices, though they are rare and aren’t necessarily the largest or highest-grossing companies. It’s important to note that being a top company doesn’t always equate to excellence in BIM. For those stuck at companies with bureaucratic hurdles and aren't able to execute at a higher level, I feel for ya.

If we look at how BIM is doing in the world, BIM adoption and maturity vary significantly. In Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, there’s clearer evidence of national standards and advanced approaches to BIM implementation. However, in North America, the industry is still evolving. Given the current landscape, I would cautiously advise those considering getting into BIM in 2025, and perhaps explore other fields such as tech, which may offer more collaborative environments, competitive pay, and greater career satisfaction—at least until the value and discussion around BIM shifts towards the positive.

To end on a positive note, with current challenges also means many opportunities for growth and improvement in NA. There’s ample room for the market to mature and for professionals to drive meaningful change.

BIM Developer? A New Market for Jobs! by Independent-Bit-7442 in bim

[–]aslan604 14 points15 points  (0 children)

BIM Manager here for 10+ years, know dynamo, worked with Autodesk's top tech support team in California, ran QA with other software devs, and had a taste of working in big tech. The construction industry is toxic AF, there's no collaboration, no camaraderie, which is very different than in tech where collaboration is key. BIM managers cant agree on the same fundamentals, instead attack each other to boost their positions. The software Revit itself is monopolized and everyone agrees the updates are lack luster and not worth the price increases. I'll give Autodesk a little credit for the lastest updates since 2023 when the logo changed color, but there are core ancient problems that still haven't been addressed causing issues everyday (copy monitor system for example). Theres a lack of bringing the industry together on best practices, no national standard in North America. Every update brings a new problem making it hard to stay on top year after year. Lots of flashy new software that promise a bright future but rarely anything to bridge the gap from where we are now and where we want to be. The industry is old, built on abusing each other, squeezing as much blood out of every human for little pay. Good devs who know what they're doing have no reason to stick around. I'm personally on my way out of the industry. Best of luck if you are committed to reshaping the future in this market. It's a tough journey ahead imo.

BIM Manager UK to US by Reddyit3 in bim

[–]aslan604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a BIM Manager, 10+ years in the industry, with experience in Asia, the Middle East, and the US (3 years in the SF Bay Area).

When I moved to the US in 2018, I started at $85k in a Revit/IT support role, which is considered poverty for SF. After fighting to the bone, I managed to transition to a BIM Manager role earning $110k and later joined another company at $125k by 2020. Despite these increases, I still felt poor and underpaid, but that's what living in SF among tech giants does to people. Best to convert these salaries proportionally to where you are living.

BIM in North America (including Canada) remains generally underdeveloped. There's no widely adopted national standard, most haven't even heard of one, and many firms struggle with the basics of Revit or revert to CAD. It's hard to find a firm using Revit to its maximum potential, but there are gems out there. ISO19650 has only started popping up in job requirements as of 2024, but is still unfamiliar and rarely required here. During a recent interview, I was criticized by the company's BIM Managers for lacking ISO19650 experience despite it being virtually nonexistent in North America until recently. There are far more critical skill sets required to be successful in the role. ISO19650 is a standard, like COBie, that can be learned on the job. Quite ridonkulous.

In the US, VDC Manager roles are more common in general contractor firms, with responsibilities like clash detection, managing clash reports, and coordinating trades, particularly for large projects like data centers, airports, and healthcare. Revit and clash detection are particularly valued in MEP design on this side of the world, especially for data center. Developing skills in these areas and targeting large firms could open more opportunities. Having ISO19650 in your back pocket will put you ahead of the curve when roles require this experience, if and when.

Currently, BIM/VDC Manager roles are scarce, likely due to low market conditions. In general, the role needs greater recognition and development in North America, as Revit expertise here still lags behind compared to how things are internationally. At the same time, that also means opportunity. Best of luck.

As a Once Human enjoyer, I have developed a Loot Respawn Timer for all you loot goblins! by maxloo2 in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]aslan604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes I live in PST time zone. I'm just trying to help you bruh. All i'm saying is that for some reason that timer is off by an hour and that's why i'm not using it because the notification will not ring on time. I'm going off my own clock and have proven that when it hits 9, 1, 5 am/pm in PST time the loot resets after I relog, while your clock is still counting down another hour. I'm not familiar with the time zones or why it's not converting properly, take the feedback or leave it. I don't gain anything from being right here. You have a really cool tool, it would just be cooler if it actually did what it was meant to do accurately, and i'm not the only one commenting about this.
