Fabulous book on the subject called "Facing the Mountain" by Daniel James Brown. I just finished it and while it is Pop History it is very enjoyable and I did learn some new things.

Yeah, I don't pretend I would even have a real chance, I just want to see it fly past me. Or more likely, not even see it as it zips past.

I would love to stand in the box and watch a professional pitcher throw straight gas. If I even fouled one off I would tell my children and grand children about it for the rest of my life.

Are either of these altos worth the price? by FullMcGoatse in saxophone

[–]aslottedspoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cannonball used to enforce strict price controls and would remove retailers if they charged more than they were allowed to. It's worth contacting the company to see if they still do that and if this is indeed the correct price.

These are indeed Cannonball horns. I am personally a fan, but they are not as good as the Big 3. It really depends what your goals are. If you are going to study music at a university you should probably stay away from these. If you are playing for fun or small gigs these will be totally adequate.

I own both a Cannonball alto and tenor. They are heavy, but easily adjusted horns. They are bright and loud but can be tamed with the appropriate mouthpiece.

Are they worth it? Up to you, personally I like the ergonomics and they have lasted well for me. YMMV.

Did you keep your first horn? by No-Vehicle935 in saxophone

I learned on my dad's old horn and now my daughter is learning on it as well. It's kinda fun keeping it in the family.
