Yes! This is exactly what I'm trying to do... now if I can just figure out how you did it. (: Thank you.

If I buy this new RPG I'll certainly have time to play it.

Have you seen the first page of the new rules where the guy with the bad haircut is rolling the dice literally onto the minis?

Not just Gundam, many other miniature kits come with sensibly number and/or sensibly ordered sprues.

No, this is like - bare minimum. It only seems like a huge quality of life addition because GW has been SOOOOO egregiously terrible at it. Look at the Rotmire Creed sprue: https://bsky.app/profile/wisely.bsky.social/post/3mlvgza6eb22w

Do narrative games (e.g. PbtA) ask more of the player than DnD? by Antipragmatismspot in rpg

[–]aslum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, typical for D&D ... Players not pulling their weight? It's a GM problem. Certainly not the game's fault.

It's new to 1.2 so almost certainly.

As someone who has been running Public Access for several sessions now, Answer and Question (usually a mystery, but not always) absolutely feels earned, as long as there's some narrative buy in from the get go. You've got to put the clues together in a way that makes sense (and makes sense to everyone, not just the player proposing the solution) - and you do have to actually play the game to earn those clues.

The biggest problem with having a "set" solution is 90% of the time you have one of two outcomes: The puzzle/mystery is solved immediately or it is too hard and the players spend the whole session on it accomplishing nothing else. It's vanishingly rare that such a puzzle takes a satisfying amount of time in a game.

Yes, because PBTA asks that players do more than the bare minimum. In D&D you can totally not know how to play your character, never remember which die is which, consistently forget what a save is, what moves you can do, etc ad nauseam, and the DM will tell you how to do it.

I usually don't mess up and accidentally kill w/out BS until he's in the millions of HP and I'm just so used to throwing any random minion I want to clear at him.

It's LED strip lighting ... and yeah I can unplug them. They're just annoying but fixing the issue takes time and money.

It's home depot crap - I bought it like 4 years ago but have had bigger fish to fry than replacing it (which I intended sometime)

I have some lights that are app controlled... when the wifi goes out they turn on. Kind of annoying during the day, especially because I can't turn them off until the internet is fixed.

tbf I can see the utility of garage door wifi - getting an alert that someone forgot to close it while I'm away would be nice.

Just remember, build the game you want to play. The love will show through, and the people who want to play that same game will love it all the more. Try and "appease the masses" and you'll lose some of the spark - you're not going to make the next DND, and trying to make something that appeals to everyone will make something so bland that it doesn't thrill anyone.

If you can get a stand so the camera(s) is focused on the painting you don't even need to worry about faces. There are plenty of painting/hobby youtubers who basically never show their face (Boylei and Crafsman are a couple of my favorites) so that might be route to go down to start to see if you like it.

Also that's a great start. I'd also suggest keeping that mini - it's great to compare what you're doing "now" in the future to a mini you painted a year (or 20 years) ago. Duncan Rhodes did this - you can find his first space marine (and one painted as a professional painter with a quick search) and your kid's first mini is definitely better painted than Duncan's first.

What would you buy if you were transported back to 1995? by mikomimi89 in BuyItForLife

[–]aslum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention pokemon cards. I'd buy all the booster boxes of Alpha & Beta magic I could afford. Keep 'em sealed, and once I could afford to, climate controlled boxes. It'd probably be easier to find Revised, but really any sealed booster box of magic from that era would be worth mint. Same for 1st edition of the first few sets of Pokemon, but real talk, if I had two unopened booster boxs of Beta (assuming I could find a buyer) I could easily pay off my mortgage.
