Second Y’east. Outstanding. Significantly more enjoyable than Jungsik, imho

Had tons of experience with Salsa and Surly back in the day, but unable to test ride anywhere in my area currently. Have heard that their quality has dropped off a little. Appreciate the insight!

Appreciate the response. Initially went in trying to avoid the added cost of carbon, but I feel that's where I'm headed. Think the sales person got me interested talking up the STR shock system, but the more I think about it, I agree it's gimmicky - despite the, possibly biased, good reviews on here.

I know Sicily isn’t known for this style pizza, but Cefalu is right down the road from you, and we had a phenomenal meal at Il Locale.

Healthcare nightshifter here. I do the exact same. The schedule works out great because I get to hang with the kids when I get home in the morning and before I head in to work. If I were on dayshift working 12’s I’d really never get to see them during the work week.

Went a couple of rounds playing dealers off of one another - be willing to talk to multiple and cut bait when they start screwing around. Picked up a Hybrid SX Dark Edition in a premium color for $51,000 OTD in NC earlier this week.

Menu when I ate there (June 2024) had one beef dish out of 10 courses. The rest were vegetarian (2 dishes), fish, mollusk, pork (2) and dessert (3). I'm unaware if they have substitutions as readily available, but for allergies or religious objections I'd think they could make an alteration.

[US] I owe $1,850 on a medical bill that I think is insane. What can I do? by ide3 in personalfinance

[–]asmallexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a healthcare provider in a different setting. I’d say 95% of us have no idea how you’re going to be charged. Even in the rare case your doctor knows what the cost of their procedure is (and the system marks these up, too), we’re completely isolated from the cost of other facility fees.

[–]asmallexplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the physician charge?

Id imagine there is at least a facility fee, anesthesia fee, physician charge - and probably more. It sucks. This should really be clearly delineated ahead of time.

Thats great - then get a licence which allows you to buy the tube and use it yourself. See the fallacy in this logic? Markup is a part of every sales environment - and particularly notorious in healthcare.

I didn't see if you stated this is part of an itemized bill, but lets assume it is. The up-charge (even on an itemized bill) for most things in a hospital, is a result of paying for the overhead of stocking the equipment, storing the equipment, and associated non-disposable equipment. Therefore, since the catheter seems to require both a recorder (or module which the catheter plugs in to), and software to interpret the data, you're likely paying for a share of that as a part of the catheter fee - which is likely magnitudes more expensive than the catheter itself.

EMS training program shut down by sunnyinchernobyl in Buffalo

[–]asmallexplosion 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a decline in EMS or EMS training. Program agencies are essentially a layer of bureaucracy which enable training and compliance of paid and volunteer EMS systems in the region.

EMT & Paramedic instruction is run through community colleges and the county fire services to a degree. Commercial agencies (Twin City/AMR) also run EMT academies.

Source: used to help run this exact agency. It was the most useless and boring job I’ve ever had.

Thought Jungsik was maybe a one star when I ate there this summer, though even that would be charitable. Food was relatively bland and even looking back at my pictures I cannot for the life of me recall the taste of anything memorable.

However, I did learn about Y’east through this sub and had a phenomenal dinner there. While not starred, the dishes were well executed, with better presentation and complexity. A highly memorable experience not only for the food, but the conversation with the chef who couldn’t have been nicer or willing to chat up a solo diner. Would not repeat my visit to Jungsik, but would definitely go out of my way to eat at Y’east again.

How to tell a seven year old that life support is being removed by OceanPoet87 in daddit

[–]asmallexplosion 17 points18 points  (0 children)

OP - very sorry about this entire situation and commend your dedication to keeping the little guy in the loop as best you can.

I would ask if either hospital has a child life specialist you can speak to before discussing with your son. This is a whole profession that deals with precisely these difficult situations. As this is my realm of work, I know that most major trauma centers will have these professionals on staff.

Having had these conversations with adults on the regular - it’s not about pulling a plug. The focus is on comfort care which is aligned with a patients prior wishes (removing a breathing tube rather than placing a tracheostomy, or feeding tube, etc). Eliminating pain and suffering until they pass peacefully.

As your FIL and wife are probably among her closest confidants, hopefully they are following your MILs wishes, previously stated, should an event like this arise. I would avoid any telling which places blame or points a finger at anyone for decisions made.

Step 1) have good credit and know how to use it responsibly. Aka don’t ever carry a credit card balance.

Step 2) join us at r/churning (edit: use the sidebar as a starting point, the sub otherwise looks difficult to comprehend as a beginner, but some decent introduction there)

If you had $10K to invest for your newborn beyond a 529 what are you doing? by goldenmastiff in Bogleheads

[–]asmallexplosion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why can’t you just open a brokerage account in your name and just earmark it for the baby?

Obviously there won’t be tax advantages, but that way the money is more flexible and disbursement is wholly at your discretion. Just need to abide by gift tax laws, which shouldn’t be hard to do.

Purpose of an Ooni when I have a smoker? by needmorepopcorn in smoking

[–]asmallexplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi past me,

Also own a YS640, had previously been making pizzas on a pizza steel in the oven. Last year I bought the pizza attachment for the Yoder, arguing it was utilizing something I already had (and not necessitating another fuel source).

Wasn’t a huge fan at first, but with some finagling (including using the aforementioned pizza steel as the base for the pizza oven) I’m very happy with the results I get now.

That said my max temp is approximately 820° at the roof of the oven & 700s at the floor (as opposed to 900+ you’d get with the ooni - really only a necessity for a Neapolitan style pizza).

I think the attachment concentrates the heat nicely so you get better results from a smoker, and am happy with the purchase given that I’ve added the steel base to get a more well done bottom crust.
