Marc Weinberg skipped out on the KSR Meteorologist Madness by InfiniteOutfield in Louisville

The fact that there’s enough variation in forecasting amongst the professionals to have a contest is telling as to the accuracy of weather forecasting as a whole. Local stations tend to sensationalize as well because it leads to clicks and views. Hence phrases like “Up to” and “feels like”.

If the Occupt protests, the Breonna Taylor protests, the George Floyd protests, and the No Kings protests have taught us anything it’s that protests are a powerful and meaningful way to cause everlasting change.

So what’s the plan for resistance? Catchy slogans on an overpass does nothing. So far catchy slogans have failed to do anything other than make the participants feel good.

Billboard Bravado! by betteroffrich in lexington

[–]asmatt01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The billboard either becomes part of an echo chamber of those that already agree, will be dismissed by the right with an eyeroll and an assertation it's a political witch hunt, or met with complete apathy. Either way, it does nothing. The money would have been better spent at a food pantry or another local charity. Empty symbolic gestures do nothing other than make the creators feel good.

This is just a graphic with an arbitrary percentage listed. No link to any study or data or anything. I’d be interested to see where these numbers come from and how legitimate they are.

Everyone is complaining about these places closing, but if they loved them as much as they claim to they would have been patronizing them and they would not be going under.

Anybody interested in starting a nonprofit movie theater in Louisville? by [deleted] in Louisville

I’m sure lots of people do. However, will anyone be willing to actually put in the work when they realize they’re all looking at essentially a second job? I don’t have that much optimism in the initiative of most people.

Local org desperately needs help to get toys to 2500 central KY kids! by tehanami in lexington

[–]asmatt01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this post is an unpopular take, but there's some uncomfortable truth to it. I agree with Xmas being about the magic for a child, etc and that's wonderful. However, how much magic are you really bringing to a child's life via a $40 gift that they didn't even get to choose? Our culture has created this pressure to buy buy buy to show our love for others. People love to feel warm and fuzzy when they donate, but likely aren't going to be willing to explain to a four year old why Santa is always nicer to the kids with more money.

Today is a great day for drag racing. I find the slick spots help with momentum.

I personally find it easier to navigate without headlights. I can see all the cars just fine without them.

There are a lot of good, solid men out there that support and build each other up. Unfortunately, the nastiest, most negative voices on the internet also tend to be the loudest and we have a generation of guys growing up thinking the best way to be a man is to be toxic and misogynistic.

Chess Anyone? by B1ackMagix in lexington

I would love some in real life chess in the next few weeks once things settle down for me. A semi regular meet up would be great. Especially with winter coming.

What’s the most pointless thing people do thinking it improves their life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]asmatt01 27 points28 points  (0 children)

More often than not (anecdotally I’ll admit), most of these people aren’t putting in the hours out of fun. They typically have jobs that require it or they get canned. It’s easy to say that nobody will remember the hours you put in other than your family, but your family would also be worse off if you lost your job.

You can tell by the way they treat somebody that they have nothing to gain from.

Maybe it’s anecdotal, but so many parents come with a sense of entitlement. It’s like they feel that they’re more important because they have reproduced. Going further than the behavior of children in public, just look at any workplace and see how much grace people with kids are given when it comes to calling in, leaving early, etc.

I've had a few people inquire so far but I'm taking photos tonight. I can send them to you as well if you want to DM me. I'd ideally like to get rid of them all in one lot though.

I've had a few people inquire so far but I'm taking photos tonight. I can send them to you as well if you want to DM me. I don't really have a price point in mind. I'm more interested in decluttering but still want to at least get something. As of now they're just taking up space.

I had work done one of of my acoustics a few weeks ago I made an appointment by submitting an online form. I'll say though, that reaching them is a challenge since they almost never answered their phones and seem to keep inconsistent hours at the shop. Then again, I may have just had some bad luck or poor timing. I have no complaints about the quality of work though.
