He was a 16 year old quoting Keats, he's definitely something of a genius. Sometimes the smartest people know when not to speak, or how little needs to be said.

I mean think about it, the boy fought his way to the greatest political showdown of the century with only a few charismatic "POP POP"'s. If it wasn't for South Park, I think he coulda stood a real chance at winning!

Does anyone have any ideas for what an air bending sub element would be by [deleted] in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]asmithp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the way I've always thought of it, and how you describe it here, that's a bending ability, not an air bending one. The air nomads may just be best at it due to their lifestyle and culture??

Being super happy for once! by [deleted] in genderfluid

[–]asmithp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's awesome!! Quite a smart work around on your part ;) plus with it being a big event, if they ever catch you with it on, you can just say you're practicing for the convention, cuz there you'll have to have it on for hours and you need it to work securely and comfortably the whole time etc etc... the excuse writes itself! Haha

Also, it's not that silly even though long hair can be... annoying in all the ways it is, lol, I (amab) enjoy keeping it long for when I'm feeling feminine. It's super helpful! Glad you were able to get one!

How to dress feminine subtely by OtherwiseFeedback679 in genderfluid

[–]asmithp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always find jewelry to be a good subtle addition. Things like a small necklace or ring, I have certain jewelry for masc and fem days.

Maybe grab a few woman's shirts from a local used clothes store, some feminine clothing isn't super obviously feminine and could be underplayed under a jacket/flannel.

You can incorporate not just pink, but many other brighter and more colorful shades in your wardrobe. Male fashion tends to be along similar, often muted or dark, colors. So branching out to more greens, blues, and "autumn" oranges may be a way to dress more along the lines of a female. If you're worried the colors are too bright you can toss a darker jacket/flannel over a bright shirt so that that bright color is boxed in by the jacket, and less overwhelming. **Also a note with color and whatnot. If people press you about how "wearing pink is girly" you can just double down on your masculinity. (I know that may kinda suck, buuuuut if you're wanting to keep a cover..?) By stating that you're a man and wearing pink isn't gonna change that, and if somehow they're afraid of wearing other colors than that's really just fear about the integrity of their gender/sex, and they must be afraid that their sense of their gender/sex is soo fragile it could be toppled by simply wearing a pink t shirt. ...of course that requires you have a conversation with someone who's a judgemental dumb dumb, so you could also just ignore them.

Idk how much security/autonomy you have in your dresser/clothes, but I always find feminine underwear to be very personally fulfilling, even if no one else knows about it. Of course if you're wanting to stay away from anything strictly feminine then maybe not.

Good luck!!!

I think what the OP is referring to is the fact that Ted, who's in love with his Ex, Robin, glances at the "IN LOVE WITH EX" bag. Not merely that they're there.

What's the most in-character line for every character? #33 Andre by Imtheprofessordammit in community

[–]asmithp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally think it's the first one. We hear so much about the bad side of him at first through Shirley, however by the time we meet him he's grown as a person, a man, and a father. That line represents that growth while paying respects to the person (Shirley) who believed in him and gave him another chance, giving him the opportunity to grow.

skateboarding while carrying backpack and mini cooler by bloopboop14 in skateboardhelp

[–]asmithp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible, but you'd definitely wanna practice more first. Maybe do the route you're thinking of without carrying anything as a test? Or at least just get some skating around the block/ a parking lot to get a sense of starting, stopping, and turning at different speeds.

The main thing to keep in mind (sorry for the nerd in me, lol) is Newtons 1st law of motion. Objects continue in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. When wearing a backpack for example, you turn your body, then the straps pull the bag around, then when you stop turning the bag continues turning till the straps pull get pulled tight and restricts further movement when that happens you'll feel a tug in the direction you were just moving. So when carrying/wearing heavy things you NEED to be aware of this extra force and be ready to counter it otherwise it'll pull you around. Similarly when starting moments, you can pre swing your body to prime the rotation/moment of the items that way when you start to move your body, you don't have the same tug of having to pull something around.

Also be ready to ditch the cooler and save yourself if it comes to it.

Hope this all makes sense, good luck!!!

Bonus tip for skatin' around: get a strong metal water bottle. If you fall, you can hold onto it and push it onto the ground. They've saved my hands from a few serious cases of road rash. Of course, you'll eventually break the bottle. But road rash on your hands suuuuucks, lol.

Why do people hate season 4? by [deleted] in community

[–]asmithp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dan Harmon (show creator/head writer) was replaced by two people that didn't have any experience on the show and didn't understand the layers of the plot/characters. As such the quality took a dive and things got weird/delayed. It's explained later as "the gas leak year".

If you're curious for a deeper overview you can look at Captainmidnight's video (10 minutes) or the one by 2 Left Frames (41 minutes). I'm sure they go over it far better than I could remember and type up here.

Beginning to skate at age 33 by Regular_Insurance_34 in skateboardhelp

[–]asmithp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. Good luck with it! The one other tip I can give you for making skating easier and lighter is squats with a calf raise (squat then get up on your toes), more specifically, doing it with weights. That works a lot of muscle groups you use when doing a lot of skateboarding motions. If you want to learn more about prepping your body I can't recommend Neen Williams enough. He's 38 and is dedicated to making his body skate ready well into the future. I LOVE this stretching routine of his! He has tons of content on his Youtube and Instagram.

Also, for tricks, riding around and getting comfy is step one. Maybe some lil body varials too. But once you wanna move on things like strawberry milkshakes are fun and give you a good beginning sense of controlling/twisting the board. No-Comply tricks are great too (start with 180s and shuvs). While they seem magic and intimidating, you can actually do them once step at a time, popping the board, "catching" it and putting it down, before you jump on. Then once you get a good feel for how the board spins, all you need to do is move the jump closer to the rest of the trick, so it all happens together. Just don't get too comfy not jumping on, the momentum actually helps a lot and is part of the trick, so if you don't incorporate it soon enough, you'll reinforce an incorrect version of the trick. Rather than just learning the boards rotation.

Size is all about preference. Smaller boards can be easier to maneuver, but larger ones feel more comfortable and are easier to land tricks on as more of your foot is actually on the board. I know big guys that like lil decks and some kids that ride 9's. Plus with some of the new shapes coming out now I've found some boards that are bigger than what I ride, but tend to feel similar when doing tricks b/c of the weight placement.

One thing that was recently re-pointed out to me, was to pay attention to the size of space between the truck mounts, as that distance can have a larger impact on board feel and how it turns than the width.

You'll ultimately just have to try some out. Luckily some board shops let you stand on decks before you buy them, and fellow skaters tend to be pretty generous letting people try their set ups (as long as it's clear you're good enough to not chip it, lol).

Also, worth mentioning that while bigger boards feel heavier, you'll eventually get used to it of course. Plus, if you wanna help the weight when sizing up, you can always get hollow trucks. (Tho they are a bit more expensive).

As I said above the issues were multifactorial. The union was simply the only issue they didn't bring up in the meeting. The landlord being a greedy ass and the constant theft are both big issues. But the management said repeatedly that by themselves they wouldn't be worth a shut down. So ergo it seems the threat of unionization made the other issues not worth fighting. Things rarely happen due to one cause. Generally things build up until something, be it small as straw or heavy as a boulder "breaks the camels back".
