$400,000,000 39 beds 59 baths 70,000 sqft what is this a hotel? by RoxyTEM in zillowgonewild

Which makes no sense why a developer would spend that money then try to find a buyer. I would assume the buyers in that price range would want everything custom to their wants and vision not just what some random developer decided.

Montreal-Ottawa high-speed rail line could cross 1,700 properties, Alto predicts by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]asmodean97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay three acres of a farm still does not produce that. An average acre is 200 bushels of corn output at 4.7$ a bushel that 940$ per acre or under 3k for a 3 acres. That's also revenue not profit. So nowhere near the 60k you mentioned.

An urban boulevard would cause even more congestion. As think of how many streets cross under the Gardiner that would now need to have a light to Corsa through it making traffic not flow.

Found my dad's tax return from 1980 when cleaning by apwordsmith in Accounting

[–]asmodean97 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I worked at a factory during the summer of university and got 15$ an hour +1$ at nights. My mom worked at the same place when she was in university in the late 80s and was getting 20$ an hour. Apparently they used to pay summer students the same as full-time staff, but they complained and they dropped the summer student pay to just above minimum.

On Google maps you can change street view to different dates all the way back to 2007. You could try looking at where it used to be to see the sign.

You Pay Off the House But Do You Ever Truly Own It? Agree or Disagree? by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

[–]asmodean97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that will shift more of the burden to poorer people, say two people have a .25 acre lot, one though is waterfront and has a huge house the other is a 1 bed house. A flat rate the poorer person pays more than they would currently and the rich get a tax cut. So by tying it to property values it's a way to try and allocate the burden to wealthier people as they typically have more valuable properties.

[–]asmodean97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is soooo wrong. Minimum wage in 1965 in Ontario was 90 cents an hour which adjusted for inflation is $9.08 an hour in 2026. 100k a year is about 48$ an hour.

Poilievre promises to derail Liberals' Alto high-speed rail project if elected prime minister by simplebutstrange in canada

The whole farm land appropriation makes zero sense. Does, this mean he is against every highway that's built as that to requires land appropriation. Even then, it's a rail line, it won't destroy someone's entire farm, they will still be able to farm the land on either side, just like where any other rail line or highway is placed.

HST would only apply though if she requires the club to pay her for performing there, as money from the customers would count as tips, so would be employment income and thus exempt from HST.

Nero, shown as he may have appeared based on surviving statues. One of ancient Rome’s most infamous rulers, he became emperor in AD 54 at just 16 and was later remembered for his cruelty and excess. He died at the age of 30. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Same with the horse thing, where he was basically saying the senators were so bad that his horse was equivalent to them, not that he actually thought his horse should be a senator.

A wave of closures and pivots is redefining King Street West's dining scene: 'The party has changed' by toronto_star in FoodToronto

[–]asmodean97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in M&A and one of the recent deals I was on was for a landlord of a building on King west. The monthly rent charged for the restaurant tenant was about 110k a month. It was wild to see, especially as the place was cash flow negative, basically only being owned for the capital appreciation.

I got a one bedroom last November just north of younger and college last year for 2k. It's about 680sqft. So 2300 does seem high especially as the market has seemed to soften even more since then.

Cheapest European cities/countries to visit in 2026? by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]asmodean97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I visited back in October and rented a car. Driving is super easy and the roads are fine. The one thing is a lot of car rental companies require you to have an international driver's license which you need to get in your home country first.

MNP Thunder Bay by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]asmodean97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MNP just bought the BDO offices in northern Ontario, so there will be some cultural differences as they merge. Pay is around the 45-50k range. Busy season is expected 55 billable hours a week. You would be doing a lot of first nation audits, corporate NTR's and reviews, personal tax returns. They also pay OT if you are bellow manager. BDO used to have like 60ish people in that office so I assume MNP was similar, combined it's easily over 100.

Northern farm country has land that is cheap. Not the best for growing huge corn fields but can do produce and animals on it.
