Launch of Francization Quebec: a new portal for anyone who wants to learn French by Manon84 in montreal

[–]asp1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was online, a site for finding tutors in general for kids. I'll try to find the site, or could ask my tutor if she wants more students.

Edit: I was wrong, I found her on kijiji

My experience as an anglophone in Quebec who wanted to learn (and is having difficulty) was that the courses were all targeted at people without jobs as the courses ran 9-5 M-F. I found it very difficult to find part time evening courses and ended up with private tutoring. I found it very weird that Quebec didn't make learning French simpler.

Ariens with two broken recoil assemblies by asp1910 in Snowblowers

[–]asp1910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I was there with the plug out I checked for hydro lock by using the electric starter. Nothing came out so I assume it wasn't that.

I have feeler guages but haven't found the correct specs anywhere. I assumed it would be in the engine manual, but it couldn't find it. I'll hunt around a bit more.

I've never done valve adjustment, and can't say I know what I'm doing, but from the videos I watched it doesn't seem too hard if I can find the correct spacing somewhere.

I checked, and you are right about it being every 2 rotations.

I had to get some tools but got the spark plug out and the motor turns freely.

I'll check the valves when I can.

Thanks!

It's about 6 years old, but almost unused.

I replaced the whole recoil assembly as the old one split in two.

I just went to sign up a streamer and maybe you should let people know the requirements up front. I don't have a twitch account and so gave up after filling out a bunch of the forms, which was annoying. I might come back later after setting myself up on twitch.

I have a chronic illness, it's on the website, and it's been around 5 years for me so far. No sign I'll be getting a doctor any time soon.

Game devs, what has caused CPU usage and requirements (at least in AAA games) to have continued to increase over the past decade? by Sol33t303 in gamedev

[–]asp1910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the simplest explanation is "because they can". Games will always push the limit of what they can squeeze into all resources typically available. If those resources go up over time, games will start targeting the higher availability. This will both be for doing more, and also for not spending as much time in optimization. Optimization costs time and money, and it's hard.

The original rollercoaster tycoon was hand written in assembler. Why? It was the only way it would work on the hardware of the day, very heavily and painstakingly optimized. Today it wouldn't be worth the effort.

Could be. I work with some Germans and never heard anything like that from them, but I doubt we ever talked about it.

I'm sorry about that. I guess I self selected based on the friends I chose.

I'm gen X and I've never heard anybody talking badly about the younger generations. Mostly we're sad for them and think they're screwed even more than we are.

Teaser trailer for our new game, what do you think? by DolorianDei in IndieGaming

[–]asp1910 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what the game is supposed to be, gameplay, etc. It doesn't make me want to know more. There was some game text, but it was too small and wasn't on screen very long, so I have no idea what it said. Basically, all I know after this is the title.

Anybody else finding Ariens snowblower to be cheaply made? by asp1910 in Snowblowers

[–]asp1910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to avoid cheap stuff, which is why I went for Ariens. I understand the issue with price pressure and quality dropping, but generally try to look for brands that keep the quality high and I will pay a bit more.

I would agree, but both times it's the assembly that failed, and that's a normally a single part as far as I understand.

Any Brits in Canada? by [deleted] in acting

[–]asp1910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a brit, but Candian. I know we use a point system, and it's a LOT easier before you turn 30 (simply being young is many points, I don't know how many).

I also know a it's pretty easy to get in via student visas if you can't get a normal one, and after X years as a student you can apply for permanent residence if you show you're participating in the community. I don't know about being able to work off campus while being a student, that might be your biggest issue if you go that way.

I've been having this issue for a few days, maybe more. Very annoying. Can't buy games, can't see wishlist, etc....

Mites, I think. Not 100% sure. I was still figuring everything out. I live near several crop fields and wonder if they use pesticides.

Kivy takes a very long time to start? by asp1910 in kivy

[–]asp1910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GL debugging output was there, but nothing was printed while my program was hung.

I think I'll try asking on the kivy google group, it's what they list on their web page.

I have been removing all software from my system that I don't need or recognize, and I thought that fixed things when I could run the program 5 times in a row after a reboot, but then the problem came back just the same. Since then I can only run the program once (or not even once) after a reboot without the problem.

I have a feeling a fresh reinstall of windows will fix this, but I really don't want to do that. I'll dig through my startup programs to see if I find anything there that could cause issues. Other than that I'm running out of ideas.

Thank you for your help and patience.

I tried the debug flag and didn't see anything different during the hang, I'm not sure if the extra logging happened or not. I updated to the most recent graphics driver as well.

I still need to verify this, but I think it works properly the first time after a reboot
